Linda is basically responsible for the creation of Country Rock and is DEFINITELY part of the "California Sound or Laurel Canyon Sound" created in the 70s. Despite that, she refused to be put in a box and, as you have already seen, did whatever kind of music she wanted to and her fans supported her through it all. I was fortunate to grow up right there in SoCal in the middle of it all. She will always be one of my favorites.

You can find several studio or live videos of it (none of them are bad) but I think this is the one you want to watch kzbin.info/www/bejne/j6anpnifl7V6jJI It's a good quality live performance on Glen Campbell's show in 1970 or '71. When you're ready for more bangers from Linda Ronstadt, check out "You're No Good", "Poor Poor Pitiful Me", "It's So Easy", and "Tumbling Dice". PS. Linda basically created the early 70's California sound. How many bands did she create or were associated with her? Producers knew Linda was killer, she had the record contracts, which meant the people surrounding her got noticed. Which meant everyone wanted to work with Linda's band. Careers were launched, which spawned many successful artists. Her "ripple" was as huge as her voice.

When Linda toured in the early '70s she was backed up by the guys who would form the Eagles. Even though she has a German name, she grew up in a home with a strong Mexican heritage, hence the album title "Canciones de Mi Padre."

Years ago, I read an interview with Linda Ronstadt. She was asked why she sang so many different genres. Her reply ( I don't remember the exact wording ) was that she doesn't define music by genre. She just loves to sing.

Linda holds back in these pop songs. Want to see her go full beastmode and show off? Try "POOR WANDERING ONE" from Pirates of Penzance, the Broadway musical she was in. People complained when they heard she was going to be in Broadway because she's a "pop singer". She came with the heat and shut them all up

"You're no good" studio version is a must. A slower haunting sounding rock song but still with a driving beat in the chorus, pure 70s all over it, I am sure you will love it. Would easily be a great background tune for a crime movie or similar set in the 70s.

Linda Ronstadt is one of the best female singers & can sing any genre from ballads to country to rock. She has had so many hits such as "Blue Bayou", "You're No Good", "Long Long Time", "Poor Poor Pitiful Me", "Desperado" etc. Ronstadt also did two great duets, "Somewhere Out There" (with James Ingram) & "Don't Know Much" (with Aaron Neville). The Eagles were her backing band till they went out on their own & she has covered a lot of their songs.

Her duets Under African Skies with Paul Simon and Hangin' On a Limb with Neil Young are pretty spectacular too. And she has done quite a few other duets or back-up vocals appearances, including back-up and harmony on Warren Zevon's darkly funny doo-wop song "Excitable Boy."

Tucson born and raised Linda Ronstadt is inarguably one of the greatest and most versatile voices of all time. As an aside, and as a total music geek and proud Tucsonan, I am fortunate to live vicariously near the epicenter of Linda's musical beginnings on her way to becoming a superstar. As a teen, she and her early bandmates regularly jammed at a tiny rental house owned by one of her classmates' parents (which unfortunately burned down about three years ago), a mere 200 feet from the home I now own. The location of three of her original long gone venues, "Ash Alley", "My Brother's Place", and the "Minus One Coffeehouse" are also just minutes away on foot.

Linda did 3 CDs of "American Standards". Consider "What'll I Do". Composed by one of the great composers of the 20th century, Irving Berlin, sung by Linda, one of the best popular vocalists of the 20th century, arranged by Nelson Riddle, who, from 1950 to 1985, worked with EVERYONE who was important in music. Linda said she saw notes on Nelson's music scores saying "Frank wants this/that". With "What'll I Do", you get the trifecta of 20th century talent. That's a lot of talent. Nat King Cole also recorded "What'll I Do". That version is pretty good, too.... The song is an early 20th century song, in urban/sophisticated tones, comparable in sprit to "Blue Bayou"
