The violinist is Lindsey Stirling, the singer is Lzzy Hale. The song is about battling an eating disorder, and the video was shot on a very low budget, which Lindsey is a master of. ;o)

Lindsey Stirling is an amazing representation of high culture in America: A student of ballet, the violin, creative, and driven. Her work is amazing and represents her faith and heritage well indeed. When she appeared on America's Got Talent, she was pretty much told she wasn't good enough to be a stand alone entertainer. And since then she has gone on to have a KZbin career that expanded into world tours. Her tribute to her late father, with Mako singing is amazing as well: "Lose you Now". As someone that has in recent years lost both of my parents, this song is overwhelmingly touching. To see what she is capable of in public, you should cover her video: "Master of Tides". To get a good look at her skill as a ballerina, check out "The Arena". Would really like to see you cover her latest masterpiece: "Lose you Now".

A lot of Lindsey Stirling's music videos are high production videos. She comes up with the concept, designs the cloths, directs or co-directs, and does all her own editing of the videos. She does the same for her concert tours. BTW, Lindsey Stirling is the violinist and Lzzy Hale the singer, is the front woman in the band Halestorm. Lindsey composes music and like this video which is an original, she has four albums of original music.

Lindsey Stirling is the violin player. This is her original from her shatter me album. Lindsey grew up wanting to play the violin and she also wanted to dance. She was on america's got talent, but was voted out, and turned to KZbin and the rest is history. A great video to react to is her finale dance on dancing with the Stars. She came in 2nd place, but it was amazing. She's remarkably flexible.

Wow. Your interpretation of this is so incredible and absolutely spot-on. The terrible things she was seeing were absolutely a result of being trapped in mental illness and body dysmorphia. She would not have been able to see the beauty around her at that time. Afraid of change, an eating disorder provides comfort as well as being a source of pain. Breaking out of that is an incredibly hard thing to do. Loved this, thanks!

What she was standing on inside the globe was her fear. While inside the globe she could only see darkness outside, again her fear keeping her imprisoned. Lindsey was also the mechanic because only she could set things in motion to free herself from her prison. Her art introduced her to the eating disorder that was what trapped her and her art was also the vehicle to break out of the fear that kept her there

i love how they had Lzzy representing the music box inside Lindsey's snow globe and how she smiles at the end when she breaks the cogs and clockworks its a deep visual show of how we all have that voice/side of ourselves that knows we need to get out of a rut or free ourselves from a poisonous environment Lindsey shows the fear of the unknown we face when we realize we have to step outside our comfort zone (represented by the bat) but also the knowledge that there could be better things out there for us (the bat turning into the butterfly) and when we finally free ourselves (Lindsey's face and snow globe shattering away) we are proud of what we have accomplished (Lzzy's smile at the end) this was just an incredible intro to Lindsey's work and her amazing ability to grab SO much emotion from you just with her violin
@benjaminfrost27802 жыл бұрын
The simpler version via Lindsey herself is its about feeling trapped in your life and in yourself while going through something and how scary moving outside your comfort zone no matter how terrible your comfort zone is. But how taking those scary steps can lead to a much more beautiful and happy life, as it did for her.

I went to school with Lindsey Stirling (songwriter and violinist, the one that created this piece, artistically directed the video, and chose and hired the singer,) when she was trying on x-factor. I knew her, but I guarantee she has no idea who I am--just some random admirer. The Story: Lindsey had an eating disorder. She was trapped by the idea of perfection, this ideal image that she felt she needed to live up to. I'm a mental health counselor, and eating disorders are often based in anxiety and fear. People often maintain them in order to bring a feeling of control and stability to a world that feels out of control otherwise. When we are unsure who we should be, it can be oddly comforting to have the answer given: you are supposed to be a perfect porcelain ballerina on a pedestal in a snow globe. Failing to live up to this causes great distress, despair, and depression, but breaking free from this and gaining a completely new self-concept is also scary. As the lyrics say, "If I break free, then I'll have to fly/There's no-one to catch me if I take a dive/I'm scared of changing, the days stay the same/the world is spinning, but only in gray." Shades of gray, meaning that things aren't black and white, right and wrong. The choices are ambiguous. Difficult. Loss of clarity, of perfect ideals. Lindsey decided to love who she was, and how she was, and define her own benchmarks for what and who she should be. She's a self-made success, a starting as a self-styled "hip-hop violinist," who was told by Simon Cowell, that MAYBE something as weird as this violin style could be successful, but that she wasn't good enough at either dancing or violin to make it happen. She has since toured with Amy Lee of Evanescence as her singer, held the #1 album spot in Europe, written a biography, been on Dancing With the Stars, and been invited to Taylor Swift's parties--all while building her albums, her tours, her career on her own dime. This song is a masterpiece. So is Lindsey Stirling.

It is a little counterintuitive that the main artist here is the violinist and the vocalist is the feature...but most of Lindsey's tracks are instrumental, violin with dubstep/electronica backing, and she dances while playing. It's really fascinating to watch Lindsey's progress as an artist; her original dance moves were self-taught, but two events fueled separate quantum leaps in her dance skill, first, a [ ▶] reality/competition series called Dance Showdown, then on the network show that inspired that genre, Dancing With The Stars (Season 25). After each show, she did music video collabs with her dance mentors, Anze Skrube and Mark Ballard, respectively, "Stars Align" and "Stampede". I hope at some point you can delve into her video catalog more.

To me it's about being trapped by our fear unwilling to step out of our bubble (in this case a literal one) and take a chance because we fear being hurt (her literally starting to break up when the bubble started to crack). We look out and see all the terrible/scary things out in the world (the bat and darkness) but it's really just our persceptions. The world can be beautiful though if you can overcome the things that are holding you back (The lushness and butterfly when the dome breaks). Sometimes it seems like it would be easier to stay in the bubble (like you said atleast you had the platform) but that is also a world of loneliness and and wondering what could be out there. She's afraid and wants someone else to shatter the bubble for her because it is scary (Just like many people. Somebody make me feel alive and shatter me. ) but in the end she finds the strength to due it on her own (there will be no one to catch me if I take a dive) and she is greatly rewarded. It's a cry of empowerment and a call for everyone to really start living outside of the bubble of fear.

video has many meanings depending on what your going through in life yourself, I see it has being scared of change as noted in the song and that looking out from that safe bubble you make for yourself are things that make you want to stay in and a part of you doesn't want to know what is on the outside and you need someone to help you in a sense shatter the bubble.. break free and face wat you were scared of changing and the feeling you get when you do break free, when you reach the end goal. the segment where it was saying about if you fall you'll have to fly is being about committing to the choice.. if you break that bubble, there's no going back and if your falling you better learn to fly.

I greatly appreciate you taking the time to acknowledge that bats aren't bad and that it's only a cultural perception that they are. If you haven't come across it yet, Roundtable Rival is a fun one from Lindsey Stirling. Her thing seems to be high-energy mixes of violin and dubstep with a lot of very coordinated dance. Interestingly, she actually got rejected on one of those televised talent shows. A criticism I recall is that she missed some notes while dancing and being *literally thrown around the stage.*

Lindsey first gained national attention as a "dancing violinist" on America's Got Talent. She herself fights an eating disorder. She is very creative. I highly recommend that you review another of her videos in which she collaborated with another singer whose work I also highly recommend. Peter Hollens is another very creative KZbin star. In their version of "Skyrim", his acapella vocals and her violin combine for 120 tracks with no other instrumentation. You will love it. See kzbin.info/www/bejne/eISvgXtvmZKdqas . Their "Game of Thrones" video production was similarly made up of 140 tracks of his voice and her violin. See it at kzbin.info/www/bejne/laCxoaCJdtujfbM . You should also react to some of Peter's many KZbin productions with other collaborators or his own multi-voice solos, such as in "I See the Fire" at kzbin.info/www/bejne/r6rQhGSGl5x9nK8 . He may not have the full range of Dimash, but Peter is a great singer and performer. I emailed Dimash and suggested that he do some collaborations with Peter. It would help Dimash see the potential for him to do more multi-voice solos, such as in "Screaming". I also high recommend that you react to Peter's collaboration of "Hallelujah" with the new KZbin Daddy-Daughter Duet sensations Mat and Savanna Shaw. The Shaws recorded a song with their mobile phone last spring that went ultra-viral, leading to the production of three albums since then. They sing wonderfully together or with other collaborators like Peter. See kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z6K3YWWIhtSWhJo .

I thought perhaps it was a look at how people are sticking to things they already know. Their safety bubble. Not wanting to step outside of the genres, foods, ideas, etc that they already know to try new things. The amount of people recently seem to be sticking more and more to the things they know and not trying anything. Whether by stubbornness, ignorance, or even fear. Basically that the lyrics are asking that someone help her get out of her safety bubble she just can’t seem to get out of on her own. Terrified to try but desperately wanting to. The ballerina continuing with her destruction of her bubble even after seeing that it might destroy her too was deep. Knowing she might die she still wanted to try so she could finally see the rest of the world. Now she is free with the world at her feet.

I dunno about an eating disorder. but I wanna say that the Ballerina (Lindsey Stirling) in this video is used to being protected in her bubble (cinematically speaking) and there's another woman running the gears (Lzzy Hale) who is failing at her job to keep the gears running because the Ballerina has started a mind of her own... so, is she failing? She seems quite happy that her Ballerina Persona has found freedom, and therefore, so has the mechanic... they are different aspects of the same woman. That's how I see it, overall.
