LL actually knocked a dude out who broke Into his house. His family was sleeping and he went to the kitchen and found someone in his kitchen, he knocked him out and held him till the cops got there. True story. He plays a federal agent on NCIS Los Angeles. He also hosted the show Lip Sync Battle. But he started as a rapper, back in the good old days. He’s been in a few movies too. Wasn't the first rap slow song. There was Fairytale Lover in 85 and even Hey Love in 86. It was however the best and afterwards every rapper had at least one on their album for a hot minute.
@sw828
@sw828 3 жыл бұрын
@@user-dz6fy6qv2l If you're talking about the UTFO song, Fairytale Lover wasn't a rap song. They sang that one all the way through. It was r&b. Yes UTFO was a rap group, but that song was definitely sung & not rapped. It's like the Fugees, Killing Me Softly. Lauryn sang that one. Definitely not a rap song. I don't know Hey Love. Who is that by? You brought back memories with Fairytale Lover. Lol. It played at my 7th grade dance! Good times!😊
@user-dz6fy6qv2l
@user-dz6fy6qv2l 3 жыл бұрын
@@sw828 Ha.. I guess Fairytale Lover doesn't meet that exact criteria.. and even before that, there were also love songs by the Sugarhill Gang and Grandmaster Flash.. All sung.. Some might consider Whodini's 'One Love' as a hit song that proved a rap ballad could work, and that was '86. "Hey Love" was done by King Sun. I mistakenly said 1986, but it was 1987 and it was before "I Need Love". They used to play it on Mr Magic's radio in NYC all the time. It's crazy because MC Shan came out with "Left Me Lonely' within weeks of "I Need Love" as well. That was kinda the year that hip-hop started growing up.

Mama Said Knock You Out was released on September 14, 1990, by Def Jam Recordings. It was promoted with five singles, four of which became hits: "The Boomin' System", "Around the Way Girl", the title track, and "6 Minutes of Pleasure". The album was certified double platinum in the United States, having shipped two million copies. According to Yahoo! Music's Frank Meyer, Mama Said Knock You Out "seemed to set the world on fire in 1990", helped by its hit title track and LL Cool J's "sweaty performance" on MTV Unplugged. The title song reached number 17 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified gold by the RIAA. LL Cool J won Best Rap Solo Performance at the Grammy Awards of 1991.

He said in his autobiography that he told his grandmother that he felt that he couldn't survive as a rapper because gangsta rap was popular and he was being dissed by several up-and-coming rappers. He has a list of bangers and starred in many movies and tv shows like NCIS: Los Angeles. He won a Grammy for this song. He is a GOAT for sure! Mama Said Knock You Out is the fourth studio album by American rapper LL Cool J. It was produced mostly by Marley Marl and recorded at his "House of Hits" home studio in Chestnut Ridge and at Chung King House of Metal in New York City. After the disappointing reception of LL Cool's 1989 album Walking with a Panther, Mama Said Knock You Out was released by Def Jam Recordings on September 14, 1990 to commercial and critical success.

Finally! Ladies Love Cool James! Mama Said Knock You Out is one of my top LL Cool J songs, a go to when I want to feel strong. 😉 That first line is classic, and I’d guess most people know the song just from hearing that line. He had a couple of albums before this one. You should really go back to his earlier work like Radio and I’m Bad, then some of his other popular songs like Hey Lover, Going Back to Cali, I’m That Type of Guy, Jingling Baby, Around the Way Girl, Doin’ It...there are just too many hits to name. Please, please, please learn about and react to more LL Cool J!
