@@user-dz6fy6qv2l If you're talking about the UTFO song, Fairytale Lover wasn't a rap song. They sang that one all the way through. It was r&b. Yes UTFO was a rap group, but that song was definitely sung & not rapped. It's like the Fugees, Killing Me Softly. Lauryn sang that one. Definitely not a rap song. I don't know Hey Love. Who is that by? You brought back memories with Fairytale Lover. Lol. It played at my 7th grade dance! Good times!😊
@user-dz6fy6qv2l3 жыл бұрын
@@sw828 Ha.. I guess Fairytale Lover doesn't meet that exact criteria.. and even before that, there were also love songs by the Sugarhill Gang and Grandmaster Flash.. All sung.. Some might consider Whodini's 'One Love' as a hit song that proved a rap ballad could work, and that was '86. "Hey Love" was done by King Sun. I mistakenly said 1986, but it was 1987 and it was before "I Need Love". They used to play it on Mr Magic's radio in NYC all the time. It's crazy because MC Shan came out with "Left Me Lonely' within weeks of "I Need Love" as well. That was kinda the year that hip-hop started growing up.

It was promoted with five singles, four of which became hits: "The Boomin' System", "Around the Way Girl", the title track, and "6 Minutes of Pleasure". The album was certified double platinum in the United States, having shipped two million copies. According to Yahoo! Music's Frank Meyer, Mama Said Knock You Out "seemed to set the world on fire in 1990", helped by its hit title track and LL Cool J's "sweaty performance" on MTV Unplugged. The title song reached number 17 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified gold by the RIAA. LL Cool J won Best Rap Solo Performance at the Grammy Awards of 1991.
