The song takes you through an addicts day. Starts out craving and needing it. The melodic middle they have their high and are chilling. The end is the addict starting the cycle all over as the high wears off. Song is a masterpiece!

I argue that Master of Puppets is the best song ever written - in metal for sure, but - in music. There is so much going on in this song, and it amazes me that most people, even fans, don't get how much more there is to it. Most people interpret this song as being about addiction, and that is not wrong, but that is just the surface. There is a deep connection between the the theme of the song, it's structure (musically), it's lyrics and the album as a whole. You see, the Master of Puppets album revolves around a theme (actually all the first 4 albums do), a central idea that conects all songs, which is "not being in control". Each song explore a way of not being in control, such as rage or aggression (Battery), insanity and alucination (Welcome home Sanitarium), duty and hierarchy (Disposable Heroes), religious obsession (Lepper Messiah), and of course, addiction as in Master of Puppets, but when you contextualize it is more about how addition takes hold of you, making you become its servant and destroying your life and dreams. Now, when you hear the song through that perspective some things become clearer. The first part of the song is told by the drug's perspective, it is it talking the the addict, the song is fast paced and straight foward as if the addict was high, under the drugs effect. Then the song mellows out, wich is the effects of the drug wearing off. Then the song gets heavier and heavier building up, just as the need for more builds up more and more. When lyrics comes back it is the addict talking to the drug, crying out to get rid of its hold but also wishing for more and then "Fix me" and solo kicks in meaning that he gets more of it and the rush is back. Then the main riff that "introduced" the drug comes back and so is the drug back in control letting the addict now that he is now only a puppet and laughing at the end. How the fuck is that not a massive masterpiece? This is just brilliant! Congrats on getting it!

If you want an amazing live performance, check out The Thing That Should Not Be from Seattle 1989. Or the studio version of Orion. Amazing. Cliff Burton, their bassist, died on the Master of Puppets tour and Orion is considered his Magnum Opus. His influence on the first three albums just oozes into the sound. Awesome reaction man, welcome to the family 🤘

Thanks for nice reaction! Always fun to see new people finding Metallica music and enjoying it. They are really very versatile and musical band, offering quite range of feelings in the music. From fast trash metal to beautiful ballads. And often they have quite deep message in the lyrics as well, as you already noticed on this one. As you wished, here are some song recommendations to listen. Also it might be good to do some mix between studio and live versions. - Fade to Black. Heavy and beautiful ballad with deep sad message, one of their classics. Studio version is recommended, you can hear the guitar solo fully, as it's voted high on some best guitar solo votes. - Creeping Death, definitely live from Moscow 1991. Legendary concert from Russia, with over 1 million people in the audience. Excellent heavy metal song with nice solo. Nearly unmatched energy of the band and the show. - One. Classic reaction song in youtube. Also has good changes and transitions of different types of feelings, and tells very tragic story. Here's option for some live performance, or to watch the official music video, which has movie clips telling story in the background. Both are good. - The Day that Never Comes, live for example from Quebec Magnetic show. Some of their more recent stuff from 2nd latest album. - Orion. Pure instrumental, masterwork of their ex-basist Cliff Burton, who died in bus accident during their tour. Studio version. - Fight Fire with Fire. Live from Brazil 2022, their very recent show. Example of their current performance, example of how they still rock even being near 60 years old. - Battery, live from Seattle 1989. One of their fastest songs, example of their trash style when they were still young. Hoping to see more Metallica reactions from you. Enjoy the music journey!

The slow middle part represents the chill part with the drug, when you feel good. But soon it's get heavier and heavier, just like in real life. As a next reactions, I recommend One, Fade to Black (live), Sanitarium (Seattle 89), Bleeding me (S&M1 with orchestra), Creeping Death (Moscow) or Orion (instrumental).

LOL. Dynasty Warriors. Nice. As someone who learned this song on guitar 20 years ago in high school for a local metal band, this is some extremely fun stuff to hear. Especially since this is a genuine reaction to a first time listen. And I thought I was joining the bandwagon late when I heard MOP for the first time in 1996, a decade after its release. ;)

What I like about the instrumental section is that the first bit sounds like the bliss one feels just after taking a hit…However, it suddenly turns on you. The drugs wear off, you start feeling the anxiety of the onset of dope-sickness, growing worse until you’re frantically trying to scrape together $20 for just one bag to stave off the symptoms while you sort what you’re going to do next…

At first the drugs are calling and endless drone that must be obeyed an end to the pain a repreive from memory then once the high is achieved the melancholic melody outlines the high but as the high fades reality comes crashing back and all the self deception fades away the master never lied the user lied to themselves. Metallica builds the music around the lyrics every eb and flow is connected to the emotions that the words entail. If you look at the cover you can see the hands of the master that lead them to their graves.
