Such a great song! I grew up listening to this group & they are one of my favorites from the 60's-80's. They have had so many hit songs. Love their mix of rock with classical music. They have a sound like no other band. The Moody Blues' most successful singles include "Go Now", "Tuesday Afternoon", "Question", "Ride My See-saw", "I'm Just A Singer (In A Rock & Roll Band)", "Gemini Dream", "The Voice", "Your Wildest Dreams" etc. But all of their music is great.

My favorite band of my youth. Saw them live in Oakland in the 70's...drove home along the coast to a super low tide with a setting full moon. A totally spiritual experience night. Yes...much more to be experienced.

The album Days of Future Past of which this song was the finally was one of the first progressive rock concept albums. It's one of those albums you can put on and listen start to finish. There is a spoken word poem, Late Lament, at the end of this song on the album that many of my generation can still recite from start to finish.

You need to listen to the whole studio album featuring this song, the songs all interweave to tell a story. And the studio version is much better because it has a lovely poem at the end of the song that just makes the whole vibe perfect. This live version is still good but I think you will really appreciate the difference in the studio version. (Plus he was so much younger then and had more depth to his voice on the original album.)

When first released as a single in 1967 their first US release at only #103 in 1968.When reissued in 1972, the single hit #2 in the US for 2 weeks (behind "I Can See Clearly Now" by Johnny Nash). After two weeks at #2, then replaced by "I'd Love You to Want Me" by Lobo. Both great 70s songs too no one reacts to... Lobo's songs were SOFT ROCK - LOBOS song - YOU AND ME AND A DOG NAMED BO.. think you would also like...

What is this? This is REAL MUSIC!
@papercup2517
@papercup2517 11 ай бұрын
It is very cinematic! And kind of mystical and poetic in feel, like much of the music from this period. It was originally the dramatic final track from one of the very first 'concept albums' (where songs are all either vaguely or closely related in theme) and also one of the first to combine rock with classical music/ instrumentation. It goes through a whole day with a song for each section - getting up and going to work, or not, an afternoon in the park contemplating nature, evening and finally night. A spoken poem begins and ends the album. If you should be up for reacting to a whole album, it's called Days of Future Passed and is highly recommended. If you can only listen to one (other) track from it, try Tuesday Afternoon. I love seeing how naturally receptive and sensitive you are to the beauty and poetic qualities of some of the music you're listening to. We were very into that sort of thing in the late 60s and early 70s. Life seems harder and people more cynical these days. Back then we were full of hope for a better world, and some of us still are...

Late 60's until about 20010 this band toured world wide. Their music is astounding in that it's lasted more than 60 years. Others from that era Emerson Lake and Palmer, Electric Light Orchestra, more to follow😅

This was the time of Psychedelic Rock.. Listen to Procol Harum, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and others. They used full orchestra arrangements and were true pioneers. These guys started in the 1960's. This is a classic by any definition. Justin Hayward's voice is so unique and haunting. Hayward, Lodge and Thomas did several albums as the "Blue Jays". Beautiful.

This group is long before Metallica, and slightly before Jethro Tull. This is from a 2000 concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London. The whole concert was the Moody Blues. They invented Art Rock and Symphonic Rock. They were also important in the development of Progressive Rock, especially with Ray Thomas' flute solo. The original song was released in 1967.

The album this was off of is a masterpiece. Days of Future Past spawned 2 hits with this song as their magnus opus and Tuesday afternoon. A 1967 brilliant concept album based around a 24 hour day in the life. The Moody Blues catalog is deep and amazing!

I agree. I generally prefer studio versions anyway, but that SOUND they get on the chorus is so chilling and has never truly been recreated. I also really like the single version with no orchestra, and just ends with that drum roll.
