Neil Young is eclectic. He can go from a song like this, to full on rock and roll with songs like "Like a Hurricane" or "Cortez the Killer". My favorite Neil concert was in Athens, Ga. in the early 80's. Over an hour of acoustic Neil, followed by an hour and a half of Neil with his band "Crazy Horse".

Another song you might check out is by a British group called The Dream Academy. They released their main hit "Life in a Northern Town" in 1985 with help from David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) and Paul Simon. The extended version is the one to watch. It incorporates a timpani, cello, and a cor anglais. The song was written as a tribute to Nick Drake, a British folk singer who died in 1974. Hello, and Happy Monday, Diane and Chewie. Neil Young had a song called Southern Man, in which he made a bit of a slander against the South. Lynyrd Skynyrd then responded with a line in the song Sweet Home Alabama. The line in the song was, well I hope Neil Young will remember a Southern man don’t need him around anyhow! However, lead singer of Lynyrd Skynyrd Ronnie Van Zandt, was wearing a Neil Young shirt not long before the plane crash that killed several members of Lynyrd Skynyrd. So I guess they made amends before the tragic plane crash, which was good.

Hi Diane, merry Monday! Neil Young goes back a long time. He was part of the 60s group Crosby Stills Nash and Young. I saw him in concert back in 1990 in Dallas at the Bronco Bowl. He was doing the Rust Never Sleeps tour. It was a great show. He came out for the 1st part of it by himself with an assortment of acoustic guitars, sat down and did a long set covering many of songs he did as part of CSN&Y, as well as a lot of his solo work. Then after a brief intermission, he returned with his backing band Crazy Horse. The 2nd half of the show was electric, and he really rocked out! Lots of high energy stuff with distortion and effects. And he played for a long time, too! Another group you should react to is The Pretenders. Check out the song Just the Night in My Veins, it's really good from a female perspective. Give Chewie a hug, I love you and have a great week!

I saw a smiling Diane and the name Neil Young, and I thought that perhaps I had entered an alternate Jennings-verse. "Certainly," I thought, "the thumbnail must be wrong, maybe it was intended to be used for a different video. Neil Young is the artist for whom the adjective _mercurial_ was created." Silly me, she picked _Harvest Moon;_ nothing to worry about. Neil Young is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get. One album might be a series of crashing electric tracks recorded with the band Crazy Horse, another might be an acoustic album. There was a time when I didn't care, I liked all of his many musical personalities. Somewhere in my attic there might still be a box of his albums with the grooves worn out. Neil Young's popularity received a boost when the musical genre of 'grunge' became popular, and was considered by many to be the grandfather of grunge. There is much more I could write, but I'll just close with the thought, "I'm glad she didn't pick the song _Southern Man."_ Whew!

A gorgeous love song! It was played at our wedding, and i loved hearing it again. It's not typical of his style, which ranges from introspective acoustic songs through to some of the loudest, grungiest rock you ever heard. Watch him live for best effect. "Southern Man" was inspired by the Kent State shootings (even though Ohio isn't a southern state) and it in turn inspired Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama." They hated each for a while but eventually buried the hatchet. If you like "Harvest Moon" and a mandolin, check out A J Lee and The Brothers Comatose's cover. It's really beautiful.
@randalmayeux88809 ай бұрын
Actually, the Crosby Stills Nash and Young song "Ohio" was a reaction to the shootings at Kent State. Neil Young wrote it and CSNY rushed it to the radio almost overnight, even going as far as to request that the song they had just released, Teach Your Children Well be put on the back burner in favor of "Ohio" to call maximum attention to the events at Kent State.

Wow I think I recommended this song some time ago 😇 How glad you enjoyed it! There is also the rock and roll side of Neil, which can get a bit weirder than this (his almost out-of-tune singing is not for everyone), but great too. Songs like "Powderfinger" or "Like a Hurricane". He also did a rocky version of "On Broadway", the song from All That Jazz. So many records, he's a teasure trove really. With Joni Mitchell -one of the greatest singer-songwriters ever- you can pick any song of her early album Blue, very much in the same vein as "Harvest Moon" but twenty years earlier. Try her early Seventies stuff before moving on to the later stuff, which is more jazzy and experimental.
