NWA got into plenty of trouble over that song....but I'm thankful that IceCube and Dre wrote and produced that song, respectively... and blessed hip-hop with it. Btw...Eminem wasn't even a thought when this album was constructed. He was still in Detroit thinking about rapping.😊 He's considered one of the best to ever do it now!!!

Eazy was a rapper by design, rather than by nature. He was always ghostwritten, didn't write his own bars, and when he started, Dre had to record him line by line and piece the track together. By this point, he was much better at confidently delivering the rhymes Cube wrote for him, but further past this point, he became a much better rapper, technically. Just as I think Ren's rhymes got better over time, when he took over as primary writer for the group, after Cube left. Even though, in Cube's absence, the lyrical content started to feature less biting social commentary and more songs about getting head, there are also songs like Real N*ggaz Don't Die, where both Eazy and Ren body the track. And needless to say, Dre (who is also consistently ghostwritten) likewise began to rap much more regularly, and confidently, on NWA's later records, and the beats began to incorporate the G-Funk style that Dre picked up while he was working with Cold 187um and Above the Law. If you do react to another NWA song, I recommend the aforementioned Real N*ggaz Don't Die, rather than another song from the Cube/Straight Outta Compton era.

Rakim changed the flow of HipHop in the 80s. HipHop became more complex and technical. He said what inspired him is he was a saxophone player so that's how he approached HipHop. He said he would just swing to the beat like he would his Saxophone.

I believe the technical term is 'spoken interlude.' And it will forever blow my mind that Cube was 17 when he wrote this (Ren wrote his own rhymes, but Cube wrote for both Eazy and, elsewhere on the record, Dre). This was really the first high profile record to ever come out and say a lot of the things that were said in this song, let alone actually carry a title as explicit and direct as Fuck tha Police. I was 8 years old when this came out, and I remember seeing articles in the newspaper about how controversial the song was. Which was very. It was very, very controversial. The group received a letter from the FBI after the song was released. Which is both insane and to be expected. Then a few years later, Ice-T's metal band, Body Count, released Cop Killer, which was very, very, VERY controversial. So much so that police departments across the country pressured Warner's Sire Records to pull the album. It became such a hot button issue that both the President AND Vice President of the United States publicly denounced the song, the band, and the record label. Sire executives received death threats. Finally, Ice-T decided to replace the track with a Body Count version of Freedom of Speech, an anti-censorship song from his third rap album. In short (too late), yeah, these were VERY bold statements to make, in 1988 and 1992, respectively.

18:06 you gotta understand this is part of the blueprint The legacy is how influence all over the world this had his heard in almost all music now. You can't expect the first people to sing to sound like Mariah or Pavarotti ....or hold others response for creating a genre but they're examples of how far the art of singing came NWA were the creators and blueprint of gangster rap.... even if they rapped ABC's theyre laying blueprint for the style...and they did it perfectly well for the time and to still sound hard today because its not just what they're saying but how they say it and whyyy theyre having to say it that's poignant. Its feeling, expression.... art 🫶🏼❤️💯P.S. FUCK THE POLICE!!!!! Eazy-E is my favourite member Please watch Straight outta Compton and Surviving Compton and react to Ice Cube and Eazy-E solo stuff 💯🫶🏼❤️talent wise Cube is shoulders above the rest but pure style and essence of that time Eazy Duz It you need to review and Ice Cubes son Oshea Jackson Jr played him in Straight outta Compton

I'm kind of obsessed with the following; for their 1987 track *Dope Man (album version),* NWA sampled from the 1972 track *Funky Worm* by Ohio Players. The 'color palette' of that exact sample singularly caused the whole West Coast phenomenon of G-Funk that dominated and lasted far into the 90s and was swiftly revived in the '00s by the GTA San Andreas soundtrack.

Ice Cube wrote Eazy's part, and a lot of Dre's shit at the time, and that's his son, who plays his character in the N.W.A. film... O'shea Jackson Jr... He's got skills too.. His stage name was OMG!! DOPE!! NWA, came with the shock value, and said on records, what we were all saying in the neighborhood..IT WAS CRAZY!!! Check out the D.O.C, out of Dallas.. His first album titled, "No One Can Do It Better", was released in '89, after Eazy's solo album in late '88.. Songs, "Funky Enough", " The D.O.C. & The Doctor", "The Grand Finale ft. N.W.A." 🔥🔥 . Lost his voice due to an auto accident in which he was ejected from the vehicle and vocal cords were damaged. He and Cube came with it, when it came to the ballpoint. His first album had a lot of guitar playing.. a lot of riffs and different sounds.. Dre was beginning to mold himself and TAKE THE FK OFF!!( MC Ren's FK) LOL The other song you played near the end, where Biggie was mentioned, was "Hand Of The Dead Body", by Houston rapper Scarface ft Ice Cube. That's a good listen as well. Scarface has a MAJOR catalog himself. Anyways, I'm glad I stumbled over to BandHouse Studios. I'll tap in with you cats again, no doubt. Keep doing ya thang here. Just wanted ya'll to know, no hate or anything, this video was fun to watch :)

Side note about Jimi because I love this debate lol. As rock musicians I pose the question to you: is controlling feedback as another dimension of the guitar's capability not a "technically" amazing quality of Jimi's ability? Not that you indicated otherwise, but is hammering out notes the only thing that matters for the "technical" quality of playing? Also I'd still put up Machine Gun, Pali Gap, Hear my train a comin (Berkeley/blues album version) against anything from anybody. Do yourself a favor and check out those tunes! And if you're EVH people, can you please explain to me, and I mean this respectfully, is tapping not just hammer on pull-offs with two hands? EVH people say this is true innovation but feedback control isn't. Please defend yourself lol just kidding. Love the reaction and the sarcasm coming from Steven is 🤌🏾 I'll be back lol
@BandHouseStudios Жыл бұрын
Great point! Controlling feedback is of course a technical ability. I think that EVHs beaty comes from his alternate picking technique. Most can learn to control feedback in 1-2 years, (not that they do lol) But controlled ACCURATE alternate picking takes 20+ years of obsession and dedication. All that being said... my favorite guitarist prolly dont do any of that lolol. Much love, BandHouse dudes
@claytonpaul4259 Жыл бұрын
@BandHousePodcast Such a better argument than tapping lol and EVH deserves his praise 🙏🏼. Thanks for replying. Of course technicality is but one aspect of playing the guitar, which is what you were alluding to in the first place I think. Cheers

88 was the first year of the Golden Era of rap. It's Hard-core rap not Hard-core "hip hop". Hip hop Is the mainstream term. For example, krs one will contradict this to make statements the mainstream listeners who insist on that ridiculous term feel secure in their currently limited scope of hearing and thinking, Maybe open their mind to more of his lyrics, and everyone else's from the Golden Era, which is 88-93. It helps keep the Ciphers and Metaphors necessary to create real underground hip hop audible to those who know this only.
