This song convinced my girlfriend and I to "stay one more night" in Seattle in 1986. By the next morning we were on the road to 35 years together until she passed 2 years ago. Thanks for bringing back memories of a beautiful person (and a fun band!). I wish Jay and Amber a great life together like we had.

So sad for your loss. My new girlfriend and I had tickets in 1987 to see The Cars but they broke up before getting to Denver. She was a huge Oingo Boingo fan, so we traded the tickets for that. One of the best times of my life and we were married in Seattle in 1989. Still together and still love Oingo Boingo.

Nice Boingo song choice. I'm a So Cal kid that was in high school during the 80s and I absolutely love Oingo Boingo. I went to see them for a Halloween concert in 83 and to say it was epic is an understatement. The band and the crowd to include me were all in costume and they were AMAZING live. So much fun. The next year I saw David Bowie in concert for his "Let's Dance" album and the opening acts were Madness followed by the Go Go's. I will always believe the music in the 80s was the most fun.

Hands Down the greatest live band - I saw them do their second to last show back in the 1990’s in Vegas. Still, until this day- this was the best, live show I ever saw. They played encore after encore… probably 3.5-4 hours long of a live show. Danny was a master live, he played every instrument with the band… it truly was an incredible show.

I was in an original band with record company interest playing the L.A. club scene in the 80’s, and Boingo was one of the top bands on the scene. I knew the keyboard player, who would sometimes sub with my cover band. The keyboard player in a Doors tribute band I was in was friends with Danny Elfman. Devin said Danny told him writing movie scores was very lucrative, but it was super high pressure. He had to submit works in progress regularly and on strict deadlines. They had to be approved before he could proceed. There’s no doubt Danny is brilliant. From what I hear, he is good to work with, but there’s no doubt who’s in charge. He wrote all the material for Boingo and did all the arrangements. I also met and hung out with Johnny “Vatos” Hernandez, their drummer, and John Avila, their bass player. They had their own band (they were really good!). Danny is very prolific. He wrote the theme to the “The Simpsons”, and to “Pee Wee’s Playhouse” (sung by Cyndi Lauper❤️). Danny has a quirky style that’s readily recognizable. That’s why it’s a natural for Danny to work with Tim Burton (another quirky cat) a lot.
@Johnny_Socko2 ай бұрын
What I find interesting is that the person who has been Danny Elfman's orchestrator for all of his film scores is Steve Bartek -- another Oingo Boingo member. That is a skill in itself, and Bartek has done a masterful job with what is essentially a second career.

@joserodrigues98112 ай бұрын
Stay’ by the band Oingo Boingo, featured on the soundtrack to the film ‘Donnie Darko’, is a profound reflection on the need for connection and the struggle against loneliness. The lyrics begin with a series of negations, describing what the current situation is not: it is not a party, a classroom, a cat show, a horse race, a funeral, a sitcom or a prison. These metaphors serve to highlight the singularity and seriousness of the present moment, which does not fit into any of these familiar and comfortable categories. The chorus, which implores ‘Go, don’t you go, won’t you stay with me one more day’, reveals a desperate desire to keep someone close, even for one more day. The repetition of the phrase ‘If we get through one more night’ suggests that each night is a battle, and the presence of another is crucial to surviving this struggle. The song captures the essence of human vulnerability and the need for emotional support in difficult times. Oingo Boingo, led by Danny Elfman, is known for their introspective lyrics and unique sound that blends rock, new wave and experimental elements. ‘Stay’ is a perfect example of how the band uses metaphors and vivid imagery to explore complex themes such as loneliness, the need for connection and the struggle to find meaning in times of crisis. The song resonates deeply with audiences, especially in the context of the film ‘Donnie Darko’, which also deals with themes of isolation and the search for meaning in life.

Here's a bit of trivia that may give you even more respect for Danny Elfman. He has written all the Oingo Boing songs and composed/scored nearly all of Tim Burton's movies without the ability to read sheet music. I heard a fun fact regarding Danny Elfman. He came up with the idea for the Batman theme while on a plane. Because he couldn't write or read music, whenever he had an idea for part of the theme, he had to run to the bathroom to record himself humming the tune into a tape recorder.

Fun fact: Elfmann's wife makes an appearnce in this video. Oingo Boingo and Danny Elfmann were my favorite band all the way through the 80s. Danny could crank out great music at break neck speed. He's still doing it. They have a very large catalogue of music. Their shows were top tier. You could do reactions to their music for the next year and not run out. Parting fun fact: you'll notice the cowboy hats and even western style guitars in this video. Oingo Boingo (Danny) was asked what they listen to while they are travelling for inspiration; they replied, "country music".

Another great song from Dead Man's Party. With that album's themes, I interpret these lyrics as someone pleading with the person they love to cling to life for one more day, "if we get through one more night." The verse describes human life by saying what it isn't. And "party" refers to the afterlife/spirit realm. I find this take touching.

Usually I shy away from that label with a group that clocked a truckload of bangers over the years) So much so that I am not even sure what to recommend next from them... Except maybe, Boingo-Insanity (same Elfman, and most of the same group. They just shaved the "Oingo" off of their name" for their last album) Seems appropriate timing as it is a good creepy lead in to Halloween time.
