John Schlitz from Petra, back in 70s was in a rock group, called Head East
@gzsfreakАй бұрын
Hey @DevinGibson . I know this first listen is two years old, but I just now ran across it. I’ve been listening to you for several years, so I cannot figure out why I just came up on this. Petra is my all-time favorite band. I also love Journey, but you said something that made me laugh. You said these guys, as far as singing, is no Journey. I would actually submit that he is a better singer than Steve Perry. He can actually still sing. He’s got multiple solo albums. He is also one of the two lead vocalists for the Jay Sekulow band. I’m not sure if you have heard of the ACLJ or not, but if not, it is a constitutional law organization. They defend people whose constitutional rights have been broken. They have also represented Donald Trump. John Schitt, who is the lead singer of Petra, was the singer of a band called Head East. They were very popular right around the late 70s. John has an amazing testimony on how he came to Christ. Anyway, he is also the lead vocalist in a group called the union of centers and Saints. If prayer is the only song that you have ever listened to from him, you’ve got to check out some more of his stuff. His voice will blow you away. Listen to his song called faith and freedom. It’s on his solo album called the greater cause. Anyway, I will cut my book short right here. Lol by the way. Thank you for all your content. I absolutely love it.

I grew up with Petra and so many others in that generation - late 80's early 90's. This music decades later still moves me to tears.

I was raised on Petra. I'm 27 now. I believe Prayer is up there as one of the best Christian songs written. You mentioned Journey a lot. Their first lead singer was actually offered a contract to be Journey's lead singer.

I have listened to every song ever produced by PETRA. I still do listen to their music. I can't speak to the audio quality of the source you are listening to. However, I do know that PETRA was always of the opinion that the lyrics of their songs should always be easily heard and understood in association with the instrumental parts even when performing Rock and Roll. It was very important to them to always get the Gospel message out and make sure people could completely understand the lyrics. As you well know, many rock groups totally drown out their vocals with high volume instrumentals. Not so with PETRA. You will always be able to understand the lyrics in their songs. God Bless PETRA. May their music live on forever.

Came across this other channel of yours. I am in my 40's, my sister introduced me to Petra in the early 90's, went to the Beyond Belief concert (in FL) that was an experience I will never forget! And the music evangelized me. I have been a fan for years. I Love rock and had no idea back then that Christian and rock music could even co-exist lol. But yes, I don't think any other Christian band has walked away from what they have accomplished. Their lyrics so not mince any words in Biblical truth.

Devin, I am thankful for you, DEVIN GIBSON Ministry because you stand with DYNAMIC FAITH with BOLDNESS not afraid to be cancelled not ashamed to share your faith in JESUS CHRIST on each and every song. God is glorified by your Voice and Ministry Outreach, you reach everyone with your comments even if they don't know Christ and have never wanted to know Christ, you Plant that SEED of FAITH in their lives and open the door for the HOLY SPIRIT to begin working in their lives whether they know it or not. So on that day, when they are in the pit of despair and don't know who to turn to, they will remember your words and turn to JESUS CHRIST in Prayer. I am also thankful for GIBBY GANG, giving us a chance to learn about new music we have never heard, a community of like minded music lovers, especially Classic Rock, Metal, Country, and Christian Rock. I especially enjoy watching you react to songs, your energy is infectious and brightens up my day as you GIBBY GANG Let's Dive All the Way In and Stand Up with Your Boy and put on the Banger Shades Noggin Thumpers and get it Litty Infinity Gibbies! OMG love this song. So the CD version is super clear. I remember seeing this song live in 89. front row. wuuuutttt. but seeing this song live after hearing it on cassette it was incredible. John Schlitt does vocals and he started out in a band called Head East. He still performs and is a great wood worker. Like a real carpenter. The rest of the band is incredible as well. The live shows sounded so much like the albums but bigger.

I just now ran across this song review. Prayer is not a bad song, but it definitely does not showcase who Petra was. You’ve got to check out their Beyond Belief album. Really, anything from their last two albums with Greg X Volz, or any of them with John Schlitt. Prayer is one of those “safe” songs that the contemporary Christian radio stations would play. Oh ya… I’ll take John Schlitt over Steve Perry any day. John used to sing for Head East. He’s got multiple solo albums. He sings with the Jay Sekulow Band, and another band called Union Of Sinners And Saints. He’s still going strong. My favorite singer ever.
