I have to correct a post that was left here. Prince never had maid/cook that “took care of him..,a mother figure…he remained connected to his natural mother Maddie until her death.” This song was written for #susannahmelvoin who was his longtime girlfriend and lived with him during the 80’s. He was devastated when she broke off their relationship, and thus this song was written. She is #wendymelvoin twin sister. Prince met her while with Vanity/Denise Matthew’s …began a relationship with her and it continued after Denise left during the pre-Purple Rain Era. Susannah inspired some of the Purple Rain music (although Purple Rain was really inspired by Vanity and Prince’s parents;) SOTT music and Graffiti Bridge.

Omg the Prince moves were part of the package! Please go down that rabbit hole! He may have been the most talented musician in the past few generations. So many singers cite Prince, whether it’s his voice, songwriting, superior guitar skills or the fact he’s produced best selling albums playing every instrument and singing every part. He’s also one of the most prolific songwriters. Ever. Hope to see more!

This version is so, so much better, no surprise. I started to listen to Prince from his 1st song in 78/79, when I was in Middle School. He could do everything, sing, dance, play all the instruments, produce, write...he was the real thing, and no one comes close to his unique brand of music/performance.
@CajunGemini3 жыл бұрын
Hands down, the most entertaining and talented artist I had seen back in the day. The number of costume changes, the many instruments he played flawlessly, plus the amount of energy he gave off for a straight couple of hours on that stage, put him at the top for me. Check out some of his music that was just released a few mos. ago on the Welcome 2 America album.

I was just screwing around on the internet about 10 years ago and I looked up the greatest guitarist of all time. I was shocked to see Prince was on several lists as a top 10 guitarists. I gained so much respect for him.

This one was always common knowledge. Any mention of Sineads version here in the UK always came with the 'Prince wrote that' tag. Last year I jumped down the Prince rabbit hole and did each album one by one. The one that really blew my mind was when I got to the second album and 'I Feel For You' came on. Chaka Khan's 'I Feel For You'. Another shocker was Cyndi Lauper's 'When You Were Mine' was a Prince original too. He's literally ALL OVER the 80s.

This song was written for the woman who took care of him. She was a maid/cook and was very important to him. She was a mother figure to him. He rarely gave interviews but on one occasion shared the inspiration for this particular song. He was a genius. He wrote and produced every aspect of the song, including the music for each instrument. The title says it all…Nothing Compares to U ♥️

Prince wrote it, and he was a musical genius, no doubt about it. I adore all of his music. That being said, Sinead owned this song, and sang it beautifully … with heart. Her version, as much as it pains me to say…is the song.

Prince was such a fantastic dancer, entertainer, musician and singer! I wish he had released this song, I think it fits him so beautifully. Prince wrote a ton of music and gave it to other artists. Funny thing is when we were listening to all his music drop back in the 80s you just NEW it was Prince regardless of who sang it because he made music poetry I hope more people discover how great he was. His music deserves to be as well known as MJ I miss him too He is the only celebrity I cried when he passed. He was such a huge part of me growing up

I miss him so very much, it hurts my heart sometimes - this song and the particular video makes it worse somehow. I’ve called Prince my number one since I was 12, I’m 51 now and still I adore him. He was part of everything I did in my life whether is was a quick run to the grocery store on a beautifully sunny day with the windows down, or a very important day like the birth of both of my kids…he was part of it. I always thought he’d be here somehow. I’ve gotten better, I don’t get overly emotional listening to his music but this one touched me. Thank you for your beautiful reaction, you did him well! Please do more Prince, there can never be enough!! 💜💜💜

This song makes me sad, not because of the lyrics, because the man was a musical genius. He embodied talent, sexuality, emotions, you name it. I was mostly a rock and heavy metal guy but I loved me some Prince and used to dance at the local college bar in the 80s when I was in college and loved Erotic City and you got the look. But when he passed, it hurt me deep down inside. Gone way too soon. I have tears writing this comment. What a beatiful soul!

have heard a lot about how meticulous he was in regards to everything he did. Was fortunate to see him in 2014, the whole performance was just so tight and on point which spoke to his perfectionism as he directed the whole thing with hand signals and body movements. amazing to watch, one long blended melody of many hits that all merged together seamlessly.

Fun Fact: Prince wrote this song for a group he started called The Family, and Sinead O'Connor remade the song which he wasn't to fond of people remaking his music. So contrary to belief he did not write the song for Sinead O'Connor. But you ought to go and listen to the original by the group The Family who Prince originally wrote the song for in my opinion is the best version of this song.
