So true!! Some of these people were not even born before Freddie Mercury passed away! I find jewels of the past all the time. The 50's were 20 years before my time, but I love listening to many of the songs from that time since my parents were teenagers at that time and owned records and then bought CDs of them. I'm horrible at knowing the name of bands, and often the names of songs (same issue with actors, writers, etc). Names are just not my thing. I was in elementary school when Thriller came out up until maybe a year or two before I had no clue who Michael Jackson was!!

no autotune, when they recorded the song and did the video, they had to overlap their voices in different octaves to get the "chorus" sound, took hours of time in the studio and it's all them. That's why you don't hear the chorus during live performances. Simply amazing, and all of this was in Mercury's head, simply amazing. Even Brian May didn't understand at first what they were doing and it was never revealed by Mercury what the meaning of the lyrics are. If you can find it, there is a couple vids on KZbin on the making of the Rhapsody, really interesting, though kinda dry, but it gives us a look in how it was actually done.

Mike - I think there are at least a couple of songs that are gonna stick around like "Happy Birthday To You". There isn't a school/college game or competition where you won't hear "We Will Rock You" and/or "We Are The Champions". They've become part of the world of sports/competition at every level if you think about it. These songs are already traditional so they COULD be around for a couple of hundred years or more. To have one song live on that way is a stupendous achievement. To have TWO, well that puts them into an entirely new category of popular. If no other work lives on, including Rhapsody, you can bet that Rock You and Champions will survive.

"Bohemian Rhapsody" is a song by the British rock band Queen. It was written by Freddie Mercury for the band's 1975 album A Night at the Opera. It was originally 3 songs that Freddie Mercury decided to combine into one song. It is a six-minute suite, consisting of several sections without a chorus: an intro, a ballad segment, an operatic passage, a hard rock part and a reflective coda. The song is a more accessible take on the 1970s progressive rock genre. It was reportedly the most expensive single ever made at the time of its release, although the exact cost of production cannot be determined. The band members are: John Deacon - Bass Player Brian May - Guitar and singer Freddie Mercury - Lead singer and piano Roger Taylor - Drums and singer All 4 members have written number one songs, the only band to ever do this. All four members player more than one instrument. Their Live Aid '85 performance is considered to be the best live rock performance ever. They stole the show. Live Aid: Live Aid was a dual-venue benefit concert held on Saturday 13 July 1985, and an ongoing music-based fundraising initiative. The original event was organized by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise funds for relief of the ongoing Ethiopian famine. Billed as the "global jukebox", the event was held simultaneously at Wembley Stadium in London, England, United Kingdom (attended by 72,000 people) and John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States (attended by about 100,000 people). On the same day, concerts inspired by the initiative happened in other countries, such as the Soviet Union, Canada, Japan, Yugoslavia, Austria, Australia and West Germany. It was one of the largest-scale satellite link-ups and television broadcasts of all time; an estimated global audience of 1.9 billion, across 150 nations, watched the live broadcast. If accurate, this would be nearly 40% of the world population at the time. Unbelievable, just imagine 1.9 billion people watching this performance around the world. It may not have been a Queen audience before the show but I believe, they were Queen fans after the concert. Freddie's voice and his charisma had the audience enthralled. This performance has been voted twice as the best live rock performance of all time and watching it, you can see why. It was the magic of Freddie and Queen putting a spell on all the viewers in this unparalleled performance. Live Aid at Wembley on July 13, 1985 kzbin.info/www/bejne/d2OVoKxumaudp8U

I graduated High School in June of '76. Bohemian Rhapsody was a big hit then as well as the whole album, A Night At The Opera. Some of the best music I have ever heard is from my high school years. I am sure everyone says the same thing, but the early 70's does have some really good music. I highly suggest today's millennials give the music of the 70's a chance. Besides disco, it might just be the best decade for music and you can include some of the early disco songs. There was no auto tune....people actually played instruments and synthesizers. It was the decade of the singer-songwriter as well.
