This is my favorite - and "Save me" from the same concert - written by the guitarist, Brian May. He and the drummer, Roger Taylor , were in a band called "smile" with a vocalist, Tim Staffell - who also played the bass. When he left Freddie Mercury, singer and piano, was welcomed and after a couple of bassists ,who didn't "fit" with the group, John Deacon came along - so the group as you see it was formed in 1971.

Hey Rob... just found your channel and really enjoyed your reaction. This film footage was professionally recorded on a two-night concert tour... they now have the entire two-hour concert displayed in the IMAX theatres worldwide. The picture of the drummer, Roger Taylor, on the drums was Freddie's idea and Freddie's artwork... he had a degree in art design and designed the many costumes in their early performances and the Queen logo. All four members were college graduates: Freddie in art design, Roger in Biology/PreMed, John has a master's degree in Electronics and designed the "deaky" amp that gives Queen that special sound, and Sir Brian May, the guitarist is also an astrophysicist and has worked with NASA on occasion... listen to "The Prophet's Song" for a sampling of the deaky amp... it gives a whole new definition to the word reverb... Might I suggest the song "Liar" for an exceptional experience of musical instrumental talents and "Let Me Live", a song done much later in their careers for a sample of vocal talents of the three singers (John, the bass player never sang any too often)... FYI, Brian and Roger also have very successful solo career discographies to their accomplishments... MORE music to check out... the Queen 'rabbit hole' is much larger than ever imagined... ALSO, after touring in February 2024, Sir Brian (officially knighted by King Charles) hinted of wanting to retire from touring, BUT also hinted at possibly NEW music upcoming from Queen + Adam Lambert.. something to look forward to... Looking forward to more Queen, so I subbed and will be awaiting more... blessings.

Hello! and thank you for watching. Yes another viewer mentioned that's the drummer's face and personally I think that's both genius and hilarious lol
@sherryheim5504Ай бұрын
Actually it was not Freddie's artwork, it was just a photo of Roger that he had made up into a cover for his drum. It may very well have been Freddie's idea after fans complained that they could not see Roger's face from behind his huge kit but according to all that I have seen and read, it was Roger who actually had a photo of himself turned into the drum cover. Freddie did design the Queen Logo that otherwise appeared on Roger's drum and which still appears on everything Queen Official.

Fred rarely drank beer on stage, most of the drinks are honey and lemon for his throat... before a concert he'd toss back a couple of vodkas but not so much while he was on stage.
@RobTalksMess-i6uАй бұрын
Interesting I never thought about using something like honey as signing can be quite demanding on the throat and vocal chords

John "Bassist" Deacon, on the other hand, reportedly had a selection of alcoholic drinks on a small table just offstage.

Freddy adored Aretha Franklin and this was a song he wrote as a tribute to her. It has a gospel choir feel. Queen had 3 excellent singers who really focused on harmonization. Both Roger Taylor and Brian May were lead singers in their own bands. They were all virtuoso on their respective instruments....a really tight, well rehearsed and professional band whose live performances often sounded better than their studio versions. No tricks....just pure talent.

Want to grow your channel quickly? Keep reacting to Queen. Queen fans are rabid! We watch EVERY REACTION. This song was inspired by Aretha Franklin. Freddie Mercury was a huge fan of hers, hence the, “gospel” influence. BTW, Roger Taylor (Drummer) and Brian May (guitar) are both excellent singers. I’m an 83 Year old grandmother & Queen fan since I was wearing mini skirts and go-go boots in the 1970s. Now…elastic waist slacks and sensible shoes. I’m subscribing in hopes that you continue down the Queen rabbit hole. You won’t regret it. Good luck!

New subscriber here. Queen is the greatest band, in my opinion, but they are by far the greatest band live! That is the face of Roger Taylor, the drummer, on the drum. Freddie thought Roger didn’t get seen enough so he had his face put on his drum ❤. Roger also has an amazing voice ❤

Thanks, Rob - widely considered one of their best live performances.. not just this song, but the entire concert.. hope you also notice the rest of the band (Freddie is always amazing vocally and charismatic as the "front-man").. I was privileged to see them a few times with Fred... every one of these guys was a consummate professional.. and all four of them wrote #1 hits... appreciate your reaction... (BTW, no back-up singers or musicians in this.. mainly Roger Taylor & Brian May.. and of course, no "auto-tune")

Queen Fabulous live band. 👑 Roger before starting Queen was known as the singing drummer of Cornwall. As a teenager he was awarded a choral scholarship to attend a cathedral school. He had his own solo group “The Cross” where he was lead singer and played guitar. Every Queen album there is a usually a Roger song which he writes and sings lead vocals. His voice has a more rock’n’roll sound than Freddie’s. And he could hit really high notes which Freddie rudely called Roger’s dog whistle.

This was filmed over two nights - on real film, so it upscales beautifully. I first saw it on VHS in the late 1990s, when it was called "We Will Rock You". A few years ago, Quenn got the rights to reissue it - they weren't happy with the original release, for various reasons, one of which that they did the transfer at the wrong speed, so everything was slightly fast and slightly too high-pitched. Roger "Drummer" Taylor takes lead vocal on a song called "I'm In Love With My Car" - its subject is what you'd expect. :)

This is back in the day when bands relied on their talent to be successful. There was a show in Britain called Top of the Pops and bands would go on there to promote their latest song if it charting well. It gave them exposure and their songs would move up the charts. The problem was they were not allowed to perform live. They had to lip sync to backing tracks and they had to be backing tracks recorded at the BBC studio. Bands complained about this because they wanted to sing their song live and play their instruments. Lip syncing was met with great disdain back in those days. To tell you the truth I won’t listen to music made after the mid 90s because I don’t know what is fake. I’ll rely on the music from the 70s and 80s. Enough good material to keep me happy.

Autotune? That was invented decades later. Tha audio & video were good because they did 2 concerts specifically to create a concert film. That film wasn't finished back then, but the raw material is good and it was finished and released for home video market in the 2000s or so. If you like that, check out Queen's Live Aid performance, and Dire Straits Sultans of Swing Alchemy live, all just wonderful craftmanship.

The face on the drums is that of Roger taylor the Drummer. They did that because, usually his face wasn't visible. It was in this case! He tends to sing high notes and help Freddie out when his voice is tiring especially in songs like We are the Champions which are sung at the end of concerts usually. Freddie wrote this song in homage to Arethra Franklin who he held in great esteem. This whole concert (which was over 2 nights) was was staged and filmed by ... can't remember...Itwas released only last year as a whole film. MTV I think. There are loads of other famous queen songs in that concert. We will Rock You, We are the Champions, Another one Bites the dust, Dragon Attack, Save me, Love of my Life etc. The studio version of Somebody to Love is worth listening to as it is quite different to this live version. I prefer most live. Sorry to type so much... there is so much to say! Rest in Power Freddie. We still have your music.
