Queen were approached to do a song for Highlander. After seeing some footage they asked if they could write a song each. Then asked if they could do all the music for the film. The producers were delighted as they couldn’t have afforded to hire the band to write it all. End result was an awesome soundtrack that has some standout singles. The one track not on the Queen album that is a cover of New York, New York. They may have only recorded a few bars but Freddie didn’t sing it like Sinatra. He went at it at full volume. I’d love to know if there’s a full recording in existence in a vault somewhere.

Wow, that cover is amazing, I knew Marc Martel can sing lots of Freddie's song nearly as well as Freddie himself, but that is the first time I head him sing Who Wants to Live Forever. It often takes multiple singers to pull off Freddie's parts in this song, and very few get the When Love Must Die part right, and even Marc was a bit off there, but otherwise it was perfect. Until this I best version I heard was from Joseph Clark, but Marc crushed it. I swear I was listening to Freddie on a few places in the song.

Watching you react to this song, especially it being the first time you've heard it, you probably realize what long time Queen fans (myself included) have known since their first album. And that is how Queen's music can touch you down into the deepest depths of our soul. Also some of their song titles beginning in the mid to late 80s seem to be written with the knowledge that Freddie was dying of AIDS, which is heart breaking by itself. The genius of Freddie Mercury in the song Bohemian Rhapsody and many others make their music timeless.

I agree. Very difficult to pick a favorite by Queen. I may have to pick Bicycle - but only because my son learned to sing it when he was 3 😁

I grew up Listening to Queen as I my mum was a huge fan, I've really enjoyed seeing your Queen Series. I have a soft spot for "These are the days of our lives" as it was the song she picked for her funeral. Nice to see someone else enjoying the music my mum loved so much.

I totally agree with Mike Blacks comment. Your reaction to Freddie's voice and Queen's music is priceless. I'm thrilled they made you a fan. It's unfortunate that you cannot experience them live. I've been a huge fan from the beginning. I have had the opportunity and privilege to see Queen live 26 times, every US tour. To get the feeling of being at a Queen show check out the following DVD's: Live at the Rainbow, Night at the Odeon, Rocks Montreal, Wembley, Live at the Bowl. Enjoy, you won't be disappointed. Glad to have you on board as a Queen fan.

I'm not sure this was an queen song. I think this is was one of Freddie own. That now has ended up on the Queen classical albums. Cis he left the rights to his old and only proper girlfriend. (mary Ashley, or somthing kiel that.) Edit, I just looked it up, this was 86.

This song was written by Brian May, so he would technical hold the rights to the song.

Stephen Butler no, this is a Queen song; Brian May wrote it for the movie Highlander... it’s on the A Kind of Magic album - they also sang it live at Wembley in 86 :)

I was always a fan of Queen but watching someone listen to his songs for the first time reminds me of what I must have looked like when I first heard them. Now knowing that back story to this song ESPECIALLY brought tears to my eyes. Next to The Show Must Go On, this is a powerful song. He knew he was at deaths door but being the showman that he was felt compelled to send us this message. Joey, it’s been a privilege watching your videos and watching you become a fan of this AMAZING band.
