You made me remember how much I love his cover of this song. That was a gutsy move on his part to cover a song sang by Teddy Pendergrass but he did a great job.

I saw them live in Brixton, UK, 1985. It was their first tour. They were the opening act for UB40. I was blown away by Mick Hucknall incredible voice, and the band was awesome! Btw, UB40 has an awesome catalog of music worthy of your reaction.

An incredible dynamic reaction 🪃! I see 👁👁you have reacted to Simply Red before: Holding Back The Years, Money's Too Tight (To Mention) and Stars. If You Don’t Know Me By Now was released as the second single from Simply Red's 1989 album: A New Flame. The song was originally recorded by Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes in 1972. It was written by Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff. It was produced by Stewart Levine. The song reached #1 on the Hot 100, #1 on the Adult Contemporary chart and #38 on the R&B chart. The music video was directed by Vaughan Arnell and Anthea Benton and was filmed in London, England. The song won the 1990 Grammy Award for "Best R&B Song". Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff would bring a notebook filled with potential song titles into their songwriting sessions, and they found a great hook in this one, which was the starting point for the song. They explained to Terry Gross in an interview on NPR that the song expressed a common sentiment - your lady doesn't seem to understand you, and you feel like: "if you don't know me by now, you never will". The song: "If You Don’t Know Me By Now", by Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes was chosen as one of the "Songs Of The Century" by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). According to the producer, Stewart Levine, he did not want too much orchestration on the record, and went with a two-part harmony instead of a three-part harmony. Mick Hucknall admitted he loved Harold Melvin &The Blue Notes' 1972 version, and stated he danced to their music when he was 13. Simply Red's song version was featured in some films including 📽: Don't Stop Me Now (2019), The Lather Effect (2006), American Psycho (2000), Class Action (1991) and more. Simply Red's song version was featured in some TV shows including 📺: Dancing With The Stars ("Round 4" - 2007), Marienhof ("Videos" - 1992), Sjans ("Serenade" -1992), Doogie Howser MD ("Breaking Up Is Hard To Doogie" - 1990) and more. The song has been covered by other artists including 📻: Lyn Collins, Patti LaBelle, Rod Stewart, Ray Conniff And The Singers, Martina McBride, The Resurrection Singers ft Madeline Bell, Seal, Jean Carn, Dennis Brown, Sandy Lam, Jackie Edwards, Phil Perry, Rachelle Ann Go, David Brent, Calvin Richardson, The Cecil Holmes Soulful Sounds, Blowfly, The Three Degrees and more. Lyrics 🗒: If you don't know me by now You will never never never know me All the things that we've been through You should understand me like I understand you Now girl I know the difference between right and wrong I ain't gonna do nothing to break up our happy home Oh don't get so excited when I come home a little late at night 'Cause we only act like children when we argue fuss and fight If you don't know me by now (If you don't know me) You will never never never know me (No you won't) If you don't know me by now You will never never never know me We've all got our own funny moods I've got mine, woman you've got yours too Just trust in me like I trust in you As long as we've been together it should be so easy to do Just get yourself together or we might as well say goodbye What good is a love affair when you can't see eye to eye, oh If you don't know me by now (If you don't know me) You will never never never know me (No you won't) If you don't know me by now (You will never never never know me) You will never never never know me (ooh) Simply Red Info 📰: Simply Red are a British Soul and Pop band formed in Manchester in 1985. The trio declined to record the song but after going solo, their frontwoman Patti Labelle made the song part of her concert repertoire and recorded a live version of the song for her 1985 album: Patti.
