Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis were certainly at the top of their game during the early to mid-80s, consistently producing hit after hit. When it comes to production teams doing mainly R&B music, one of the only ones I can place on the same level as them are Gamble and Huff, who were dominating the scene in the 70s.

I vividly remember listening to this song being played on the school bus on my way to high school back in the 80s. The thing about it was my bus was an all Black bus from "the hood" so the bus driver was playing a Black radio station. It felt like an R&B song even though it was a White pop group. That wasn't uncommon back then.
