Toy lost both his younger brothers within a month of each other to car accidents. He was also a United States Marine Corps Vietnam War combat vet (WIA). That's him singing with incredible soul and thumbpicking that beautiful Gibson Les Paul. Thank you for everything brother. Rest easy.

The Caldwell brothers were from Moore South Carolina about 30 miles from where I live and I have always had kin living in Moore and would ride by an old two story brick school house that they used to record some of their songs in. I remember hearing on the radio years ago back in the 70's that they got their name by one of the brothers finding a keyring in an abandoned car shed or barn and the keyring had the name, "Marshall Tucker" on it and they named the band after the name on the keyring. Critics, told the band that a flute in a Southern Rock Band won't work, but they tried it out and that became their trademark. That flute gave a lot of their songs a very unique sound that caught on and is classic to hear to this day.

Thank you for doing this song. After my separation/divorce I gave up reading books, newspapers, tv and movies and finally gave up music. It was all too painful. Music was the last thing I gave up and the first thing I brought back. Music has always been everything to me. So after months of severe depression and seclusion I was finally ready to venture back into the world. Habit brought me to the jukebox. Played this song. People in the bar started singing along. And it was so healing to me. This song will always remind me why Music means so much to me, and why sharing it with others means so much to me.

The reason we heard the music back then is that's what we had, we had radio stations all over, but only 10 TV channels (0 24hr) vs 500-600 today, 0 music platforms like Spotify...etc... Zero disc players/walkmans etc... No computers for KZbin etc... Nothing trending, when something got released in the U.K. it might take a month to come over for us to hear, now it's minutes. No Autotune, you sang or played an instrument. There's some good young musicians out there who are putting in the work, good luck to them! Just my thoughts and opinions!

I could go on about this band. The mix of genres, jazz, blues, C&W, into their Southern Rock sound, but I'll just say they were a favorite of mine. Glad I got to see them live. Toy Caldwell - "the fastst thumb in the south" - singing lead on this one. Toy wrote most of MTB's songs. Also played steel guitar. Doug Gray sang lead on most of the MTB songs. Toy's brother Tommy on bass. George McCorkle on rhythm guitar. Jerry Eubanks on flute/sax/keyboards. Paul Riddle on drums. I'd recommend "Carolina Dreams", the whole album. Can't forget "Fire On The Mountain". Give yourself a Marshal Tucker day. You're welcome.

My first time hearing this song and don't recall hearing of the band before. Surprisingly easy to listen to despite the subject matter, really love it.Sort of has a little of everything, country, blues and rock, great end too.

The band got its name from a business card left behind in the rehearsal hall they were at, by a blind piano tuner named Marshall Tucker...

Your reactions have given me great pleasure As I have had to Indore four months of total isolation during this pandemic.
