This is my favorite Moodies album, the search for spiritual growth, enlightenment, thinking outside the box, evolving. In later years mostly they played it safe, wrote love songs. This was the real deal, deep meaningful songs.

In the 60's, we really thought we were going to change things. How disillusioned we were & still are. Thank goodness we have our great music. The Moody Blues were awesome to see in person. They sounded as good live as they did on their albums. I love your reactions. More MB please. Big like from me every time.

There were many great artists/bands from that wonderful era of the 60's and 70's, The Moody Blues though were unique, with a sound of their own, and a range of beautiful songs. Those seven albums that are often mentioned, are certainly up there with the best from that wonderful era. And the intro to this track, wow!

After this track was Dear Diary, a slow satirical track about the mundane workaday life, a recurring theme in early Moodies' songs, longing for escape to a better world touched on in Ride My Seesaw. I really was into the Moodies in the mid to late 70s when I was changing from teenage years into young adulthood working in an office. The stifling oppression of everyday life being relieved only by day release college and some subjects I really enjoyed. It's taken me until now to realise just how important the Moody Blues were to me at the time.

This was written by bassist John Lodge, an evangelical Christian. He would never write anything that didn't have a deeper meaning. He always stayed away from the temptations of the 60's and 70's. Probably considered the groups universal 'designated driver'. The opening poem was written by drummer Graeme Edge who passed away late last year.

August 31, 2000 issue "Born Again Rock Stars" by Billy Bruce. See also The Justin Hayward Interview Part 5 at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame found here:kzbin.info/www/bejne/kHa1nXd_idhkrcU, in this interview it is inferred that Lodge did not participate in some 60's activities. In another of these interviews Hayward says some of them went to Timothy Leary's commune, Lodge not one. I did this research to verify what I had read about him. I was also surprised although he always seemed to wear a cross around his neck.

Harri, starting with their second album, Days of Future Passed, the Moody Blues had a run of seven awesome concept albums. In Search of The Lost Chord is the second of the seven. The concept of In Search of The Lost Chord is basically finding balance in life through meditation, although various other methods before settling on meditation is sung about over the course of the album. I know you don't do full album listens on your KZbin channel. But when you can, do yourself a favor and listen to the Moody Blues the way they're supposed to be heard, i.e., via their Magnificent Seven album journey by complete album listens in chronological order.

@@Cynthia... Not suprising I guess, as Go Now was done in 1964 and the one we heard here was 1968 with justin and John added to the band and Denny Laine gone - plus so many tumultuous changes in music during that period. Justin said that in the intervening period they had declined in popularity to the point where they were playing "Go Now" and their continental hit "Boulevard de la Madeleine" every night in very small and often seedy venues. So, the lifeline to record this album with a full orchestra (which was originally intended as a stereo sampler by Decca) was very timely!

The reason their music doesn't sound the same is because every one of the 5 members wrote music. This song was written by John Lodge, bassist and he wrote most of the rock songs but also some excellent ballads. With each of the core 7 albums, there's a theme that runs through each album, which is unique. I would like to hear what you think of John's "One More Time to Live", Ray's "For My Lady" and Mike Pinders "Out and In" Justin Hayward wrote the most songs and is some times billed as "The Voice" of the Moody Blues but if one just focuses on their hits or focus on Justin's songs, one misses a treasure trove of music.

Always deeper than other bands, always deeper meaning. When the Moody Blues do bring up issues of love it is always more beautiful and more respectful of it as a part of life, and as a more complex relationship, another part of the journey. "Nights In White Satin" is proof of that. Definitely NOT a song about a quickie in the back seat of a sedan. As for "Ride My Seesaw", always thought it was a great song and extremely well put together and performed but you finally opened up the lyrics of it to me. This was one song I struggled with, but now I understand. It means, if you want my humdrum life with a second class job, you can have it. I'm going somewhere, where I can breathe again, where I can enjoy life, where I can spend my time doing things like walking among giant trees and hearing waves crash against the shore and see the rivers carving canyons among the mountains. As for my 9 to 5 paycheck to paycheck existence, you can have it! That is what this song is about. Thank you.

Harri, I recommend that you take 45 minutes one day when you won't be disturbed ... put on your headphones ... and give a good listen to any Moody Blues album that was released between 1967 ("Days Of Future Passed") and 1972 ("Seventh Sojourn"). Their album "Threshold of a Dream" has a definite trippy vibe. I first heard it while camping, and a mind-altering substance was part of the experience. "Face piles of trials with smiles. It riles them to believe that you perceive the web they weave." Whether you react to or not, give the album a listen some time. That experience was fifty years ago. No acid trips for any song by John Lodge. The opening poem, by Graeme Edge, "Departure", certainly reflects the time period of searching and experimenting and reflects in the psychedelic aspects found in the concept album "In Search of the Lost Chord", which is on searching different avenues for life's meaning. Of course all of the moody Blues was about protest against Vietnam. I love their music and I'm way younger but can easily understand what they are singing about..but still love watching your videos on music no matter if it's American or British or any style but it's still CLASSIC GREAT MUSIC WHICH EVERY AGE SHOULD LISTEN TO IF YOU ARE IN TO AMERICAN HISTORY

Phil Travers did the album art for all the Moody Blues concept albums. His work was absolutely fascinating to me… just as fascinating as the music housed inside the sleeve.

This is the #1 acid rock band from that era. They wrote a lot of their music under the influence of LSD,listen to their song "TIMOTHY LEARY",the godfather of acid.It says it all about that era.

Like most Moody songs this is about /inspired by LSD trip. The perfect band to take an acid trip too. Bum proof, from the music, to the lyrics to the album covers.

IMHO, this is the first "Prog Rock" group. Ditto with "Symphonic Rock." And Mike Pinder was the mellotron pioneer!. Their discography is nothing short of fabulous. They are in some ways unmatched. And one of my very favorite groups. Glad I got to see them at least once!

Harri, this album is totally psychedelic. Listen to the entire thing through at once. It even has the tribute to Timothy Leary whom the band did share at least one LSD experience with. It’s a great piece of work by this unique and genius band.

"Legend of a Mind", written by flautist Ray Thomas, was actually supposed to be a tongue-in-cheek poke at Timothy Leary (Leary loved the song!).

@@elizabethrogers8306 The song has become somewhat of a Legend all by itself I guess. I found this from an article in the SanFrancisco Examine from 2017, about the 50th anniversary of the Days of Future Passed album and was surprised to learn that the song had been written in 1967 when they released Days and had tried LSD themselves. Here’s what I read: “In 1967, three of the Moody Blues’ five members accepted an invitation to visit LSD champion Leary at his home, north of San Francisco. Edge and bassist-singer John Lodge declined. Guitarist-singer Justin Hayward, flutist-singer Ray Thomas and keyboardist Mike Pinder accepted. “The other guys were afraid they’d get spiked (with LSD),” Hayward recalled in a Union-Tribune interview in 1996, the same year Leary died. “And none of us did; it was a bit of a disappointment. But Leary was a gentleman, and very bright, with wonderful blue eyes. A unique man.” Ultimately, the Leary-inspired “Legend of a Mind” was left off “Days of Future Passed,” which featured the London Festival Orchestra.” Live and Learn! 🙂 I’m sure you know about the follow up song they wrote about Mr Leary called When You’re A Free Man, off their Seventh Soujourn album. That was Mike Pinder and Leary had escaped prison and was on the run at the time.
