The Seekers were another great Australian folk pop band from the 60's. They had so many great hits including "A World Of Our Own", "Georgy Girl", "The Carnival Is Over", "Morningtown Ride", "I'll Never Find Another You", "Someday, One Day" etc. They have beautiful voices & harmonies. They don't make nostalgic music like this anymore. Reminds me of a simpler time.

Rest in peace Judith Durham. What a voice she had. So dearly missed. This late 1960s live outdoor performance from their native Australia still holds the record of having been before the biggest audience ever gathered together anywhere in the southern hemisphere! Just amazing.

Judith Durham was lovely inside and out, and still is at 79! Her vocal range, enunciation, purity and power of her lyrical skills were amazing! And, yes, before you even said Peter, Paul & Mary, I was thinking Peter, Paul, and Mary!

My heart is truly broken that Judith Durham has passed us by. Her wonderful voice will live long in my heart. This is a live concert in front of 200,000 people. I will love her voice till I die.

This is from a concert at the Sydney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne in 1967. More than 200,000 people attended and it is to date the largest concert crowd in the Southern Hemisphere. There would have been more people, but the roadways were so completely jammed people couldn't get near the concert.

I can understand the comparison to Peter, Paul, and Mary. PP&M were a little more folksy. The Seekers were more Pop. IMO.

_Amazing_ reaction! For the record, "Georgy Girl" is the name of an English 1966 movie, which begins and ends with this song. It refers to the main character; _Georgina Parkin._ BL

I knew that you'd say Peter, Paul and Mary. EVERYONE says that. They were around being famous at the same time. That song made The Seekers famous worldwide as it was a song that was used in a big movie of the time. They were borderline pop but mainly folk singers.

Funny you should mention Peter, Paul and Mary comparing them to the Seekers. BOTH the Seekers and Peter, Paul and Mary sang 500 miles. Listen to both versions and compare. The tempo of Peter, Paul and Mary' s version is slower. The vocals of Judith Durham in the Seekers version is spellbinding. It is my alltime favourite Seekers song.

It's funny you said Peter, Paul, and Mary. In one concert that I watched on line, Judith was telling the story about a fan asking her about Puff the Magic Dragon. She told the fan, that they didn't do that song, then they sang it in the concert.

Tom Springfield Dusty's brother, who had written "I'll Never Find Another You", composed the music and Jim Dale (English actor, composer, director, narrator, singer and songwriter) supplied the lyrics.

I only recently learned that Jim Dale wrote the lyrics. I met him when he was doing Barnum on Broadway. Georgy Girl was done for the movie of the same name.

Judith Durham, sadly, passed away last Friday 8th August. The end of an era. The Seekers are Australian. Their farewell performance of “I am Australian” is moving. Her crystal clear words and vibrato were hallmarks. The Seekers, along with Peter Paul and Mary etc were the music of my youth. They went to the UK for a short engagement and were booked out for ages. Georgie Girl was the title song for a film of the same name and rose to No 1 in Australia and New Zealand, No3 in UK and No2 in USA. A number of their songs sound happy on the surface but have an undercurrent of sadness, as this one has. More so for Judith’s death.

You mentioned they reminded you of Peter Paul and Mary. Hmmm never crossed my mind I heard both great groups back then but I see the similarities. Good conclusion. I see it myself thanks to you. Singers and great songs don't make it difficult for me to say the 60s were my favorite decade for music. If possible can you react to Good Lovin' or Groovin by the Rascals a great group late 60s.
