Thomas Sowell talks a good game & does state facts but has an agenda and cherry picks which facts he uses. So while you can learn something from him beware and don't let him lead you astray. Accents and word usage comes from surroundings but it can be tempered by how much TV and Movies you watch.

@@oldmanghost219 what is Sowells agenda? He’s written over 40 books. Could you be wrong about the cherry picking?
@ContrarianCorner Жыл бұрын
@@caseybrown4360 He does indeed have his own perspective and agenda. Mainly, his agenda is to point out many of the ways we've been misled, and even deliberately lied to, by so many of our "cherished" institutions. He's actually trying to counter the rampant cherry picking that has always been happening by politicians, historians, economists, etc. by proving how a more honest and in-depth look at their own claims will so often lead to completely different conclusions than the ones they originally profess.

Haha, if truth is to be told, do you know what thoughts are like? They are like those words in a book. And in the final analysis, it ain't worth the paper on which it is written on. I went to college, and as required, we read lots of great books, but it did not produce any paradigm-shifting moments just by reading them. You want me to give just one example of a good leader? How about Nelson Mandela, who fundamentally changed South Africa by sacrificing 27 years of his own life in prison. Do you want a female? How about Ms. Harriet Tubman, who actually led escaped slaves to freedom via the dangerous "underground railroad", on 13 separate missions ... in other words, a thought leader ain't diddly squat until you can "show me" - but I am not from Missouri! Or as we say around the way, be about it instead of talking about it. Do you know who these pundits sound to me like, how about those poverty-pimping preachers, aka prosperity preachers ... haha! In short, talk is cheap, feel me!

He's 100% right. Its not racial, its cultural and spreads across racial lines. I grew up in the South, and had more in common with country black folks than I did urban whites.
@VelkanAngels Жыл бұрын
I've tried to explain that to "racially tense" Americans for so many years now. I'm a white Dane and I've tried to explain, that they as a white American (for example) have a ton more in common with a black American than with a white Dane. There's national culture, state culture, regional culture, city/town culture and even sometimes neighbourhood culture. Even just growing up in the same national culture, many Americans have a lot in common that they don't even think of as being commonalities, because many (if not most) people born in U.S.A. have never been outside of it, so they tend to assume that those commonalities are among humans all-together as opposed to themselves and their fellow Americans. It's no wonder, considering so many have grown up being told by school, media, politicians and maybe even family, that they couldn't possibly understand each other... after all, you there is "white" and you over there is "black". You're just too different. Don't even bother talking with each other to find out how much you agree on. It's depressing to see, when looking in from the outside in a culture that's sharply different from both overall American culture and the black American subculture and seeing those "hidden" agreements and commonalities from a mind with no real horse in the race (no pun intended).

I’ll be honest, I always avoided watching your reactions to political or societal videos, but when I saw Thomas sowell, I had to watch. I went from loving your reactions, because of how genuine you are, to now really liking you as a person, because of the wisdom in your responses to what Sowell was saying. Also, I would’ve never guessed that you grew up in the system with no parents you have done better than most people that did grow up with their mother and father, so my hat is off to you! Also, Thomas was born in Gastonia North Carolina, which is where I live, just a random fact. Thanks for your content dude! I think there’s a reason why so many people like this genre on KZbin. “Country boy reacts to Dr. Dre“ “rapper reacts to Garth brooks“ etc. there is a void that has been left by the division between the people in this country, we all want the same thing, which is to be loved, and appreciated for who we are and I think these videos, with the help of our musical expressions, convey that we’re not so different that we can get along and actually enjoy friendship not in spite of, but BECAUSE of our differences.

I'm a Dutch person with a very international background, now living in Egypt. As most Europeans, I follow news and delve into cultures from around the world. The isolationism, polarisation, lack of general knowledge of the world, etc of people in the US both baffles and frightens me. I've been uncomfortable with a lot of things in American (sub-)culter(s) for a ling time, and increasingly so in recent years. I'd never heard of Sowell before, but I'll be sure to look into him further after this very interesting video, for which my thanks. I only discovered your channel yesterday but i so appreciated your calm, genuine, well-spoken intelligent reaction to certain things, that I immediately subscribed, and im very glad I did. I'm not sure if you are aware of the recent debate that raged recently about the Netflix series Cleopatra, produced by Jada Pinkett-Smith. In it, Cleopatra was cast as a black woman. Now, historically, it is 100% clear that she was not. Apart from the fact that the whole production was awful and riddled with other inaccuracies, this one caused the most controversy, and outrage among Egyptians. And immediately, they were labelled as racist and vilified - just because they were protesting historical and cultural appropriation and theft of their history, their heritage, by black Americans. And this was labelled a "documentary", not even a fictional drama. They were protesting because it wasn't true, pure and simple. There is a growing movement of black American Afrocentrists, who claim ancient Egyptian history and culture for their own - never mind that DNA testing as well as the geographical origin of most black Americans is on the complete other side of the gigantic continent that is Africa. It incenses Egyptians, and people like me on their behalf and purely on the behalf of historical accuracy and veracity. But if you say that, you're immediately labelled as racist. That is a very problematic development - you cant defend even the historical truth if it goes against Black American interests. That is simply mind-boggling to me. And it disturbed and worried me greatly. It is a very worrisome development. This sanctifying and veneration of black American culture against even historical truth and the appropriation of another culture's history is just mind-blowing. And very, very strident, almost violent in the language used. I didn't understand how such wilful blindness and cultural aggression could be applauded and defended. But videos like these are beginning to show me a better insight into where this is coming from. So I thank you very much for that, and for your reasonable and calm response, and your willingness to listen to a viewpoint that isn't the popular one. That made this extremely pleasant to watch and makes me want to investigate further. And that is the way forward, I think. I've never commented on a KZbin video before, but I just wanted to express my gratitude. I'll be following you closely, definitely. Thank you so much.

You are ultimately the one who decides how things in your environment affect you. You can choose to learn or remain ignorant. You can choose to submit to other peoples opinion of you or you can ignore them and move on. The trick is to be someone YOU are happy with, because YOU are the only person you absolutely have to live with. You are who you act like. All of your internal monologue is just YOU either deciding what your going to be or YOU making excuses why you aren't who you want to be.

on education: provided that the individual has the innate capacity and interest, and has been taught the fundamental skills of how to assess and learn, this is the greatest time in human history for the autodidact.

Im korean and I totally agree. even for me, when I grew up, my parents told me not to associate myself with people with bad grades, they have a certain environment that just reinforces their behavior. same thing here, don't associate with certain culture/environment and stick with positive/successful environment which will significantly increase your chances of success. Just look at The fresh prince of belair, when the main character moved to Bel-Air, his chances of successful life improved significantly, Uncle Phil is the result, a lawyer/judge. You can't get to this achievement when you keep celebrating bad environment/culture. There was a huge push towards better education. Think before you act, not act then think later.

I'm in my late-50s. I had the dishonor of being the first generation of black children who grew up absent of the father. The results were INSTANT disaster. 😪

As a 60 something white guy who is often cast as racist for the only reason of my skin color and age want to say this. Thank you for your open minded attitude as a young black man because it’s people like you that will change attitudes.Thomas Sowell is a treasure and history will prove him correct. My own opinion is that all the money in the world will not help the black condition, parents that are there for them as well as poor whites is the only answer. Charter schools and mentors can only break the chain

Thomas Sowell is one of the most intelligent men in this country on human sociological studies. He is also a huge historian about American History with an emphasis on black culture and history.
