Delightful reaction! Welcome to the wonderful world of Voiceplay (and Geoff Castellucci, the bass)! If think you'll be watching more of them, I have some "rules" I came up with after years of being a Voiceplaya (a Voiceplay fan). They can be helpful. But I will post them only if you say it's okay.

Their rendition of "We Don't Talk About Bruno" with Ashley Diane is so good that Disney hired them to perform at a corporate event.

Also their cover of Nothing Else Matters drew the attention of Chicago and they were invited to perform with them in concert.

Voiceplay lives up to the theater kids of acapella. Best known for their covers of Disney, Broadway, video game theme songs, and they are the kings of any artists on Halloween pieces. But they cover anything they do with extremely high standards and complex arrangements. And they are 100% independent.

Welcome to the wonderful rabbit hole of Voiceplay (and Geoff Castellucci, the bass singer, who has his own channel of "Very low bass singer covers" which is another awesome rabbit hole). 🙂 THey are the oldest of the "big four" A cappella groups (the others being Pentatonix, Home Free and The Bass Gang), as they started in 1997 under the name of "4:2:five". The only "founder members" remaining are Geoff ("Jeff") Castellucci, the bass, and Layne Stein, the beatboxer and baritone (and Lord of the Carrots, but that's another story 😁). 🙂 All members of Voiceplay have a background as performers in either Disney or Universal theme parks, which explains why they do so many Disney related songs. They're based in Orlando, FL, and are 100% independent, meaning that they are fully funded by Patreons, the channel, merch and so on. Oh, and they are TOTALLY reactors-friendly, they'll never block a video. They think that reactors contribute to make them better known, and they're right... 🙂 Before the pandemic they used to tour a lot. Then the pandemic hit and they had to stop... And Geoff started his channel. Layne and Geoff have been the arrangers for the group, taking turns and covering about half of the arrangements each. Eli (short for Eliezer, to be pronounced "Elly"), the bald high tenor (and Rock God of Asgard, but that is yet another story 😅) did a few arrangements in the past, notably "Eleanor Rigby" a few years ago and the more recent "Creep", originally by Radiohead. He also takes care of the lights and sometimes of the digital backgrounds. Since when Earl Elkins Jr, the original high tenor, left in 2020 (hopefully... my memory ain't as good as it used to be), and J None (back right in this video), left to sing for the Navy, Voiceplay has been short at least one member, and they have featured artists to fill the void. They added Cesar de la Rosa as 4th permanent member, which we love, and many of us hope that as soon as J None is done with his 5 years stint with the Navy he'll be back as permanent member. He still records with them when he's on leave. 🙂 They cover pretty much every musical genre one can imagine, and do everything themselves. They're just incredible. ❤ Just subscribed in anticipation for more Voiceplay, and to watch your first reaction to Geoff's solo stuff 🙂. See you next time!

I love The Bass Gang but they aren’t acapella. They use music in their covers. I’ve always heard the 4th in the top 4 of acapella being Voctave!
@DavideBaroni6 ай бұрын
@@thisismetoday7423 As far as I know, TBG started completely a cappella. I know they've put some instruments in, lately. I still love them anyway 😀, and I don't know whether it's a "trend" that will continue or not. 🤔 Yep, Voctave is another big one, that I don't know yet. I don't have all the time it would take to listen to all these groups AND all the other music I love... 🙂 ...And still manage to have a life, I mean 😅.

@@DavideBaroni I totally hear you!! Between listening to the originals and the reactions I have to be careful and make sure I do other things 😂 But yeah, I don’t consider TBG acapella or Geoff Castelucci since they both typically use backing music but they are both amazing channels with amazing covers. If you ever get time you should check out Voctave. They are different but amazing! They have a Great Movie Medley where they sing famous movie scores just with their voices. 😅

The best thing to do is find a song that you love that Voiceplay has covered. Because the secret is, Voiceplay does not do covers. They do upgrades. No more, in my opinion, that In the Hall of the Mountain King. It’s a piece of classical music we’ve all heard before, but the costumes, narrative, and arrangement bring that piece to incredible heights. Please explore this band more, I for one will be watching

I love how swept up you were! Their medlys almost always tell a story, either the original story in Disney or Broadway or an original story like in Queen in 5 minuets or the combo set of Billie Eilish in 3 minuets and Panic (at the Disco) in 4 minuets.

VP has undergone a number of lineup changes, and when you watch their earlier "Moana Medley" ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/ap-wZn2Qa6l_lbc ), you'll see the high tenor (Earl) who left the group before they did "Little Mermaid Medley." Recently, my two daughters and two granddaughters (ages 5 and 9 at the time) discovered these videos...with generationally-predictable results! My Mermaid-era daughters favored "Little Mermaid Medley" and the Moana-era munchkins declared "Moana Medley" to be better! 🙂 I loved your reaction!

@acorrado55296 ай бұрын
I enjoyed your enthusiastic reaction so much I subscribed to your channel- thanks! Voice Play is one of the top three acapella groups but their style and approach to acapella music is different, more theatrical as they are often called the theater kids of acapella music ( Pentatonix is more current, trendy Pop music and Home Free has more of a Country/Folk style). Voice Play is also different as they are a group from Orlando Florida and all of their members and frequently featured guests have worked as performers for Universal and/or Disney theme parks ( featured guest here, Rachel Potter, performed as Ariel in the little mermaid show at Disney world for 5 years). They work without a record label or recording contract by choice and do all of their own production. If you like Disney, my favorite Voice Play covers that I recommend for reactions are: "We Don't Talk About Bruno" (Encanto) , "Hoist The Colors"(Pirates Of The Caribbean") and "Hellfire" (Huntchback Of Notre Dam). They really are the best with anything Disney or Halloween themed. They are very versatile and do some great covers of classic rock songs and if you like gaming they cover that too. I look forward to your Voice Play journey!

Voice Play leans hard into a musical theater vibe, their performances are nothing short of extraordinary. You said you just started doing acapella reactions. This is quite the rabbit hole you've stepped into. Voice Play, Home Free, and especially Pentatonix are all so versatile with their voices and sound effects, they can all really do almost anything. I could give you a list, but there are so many songs to choose from, all you can do is search their names and watch.

Well, hello! Yes, please do react to more VoicePlay- you will always find a group of dedicated fans in your comments when you do. And they really are a spectacular group, the lesser known third of the 'big three' contemporary a cappella groups on the scene right now. The best of the bunch, in my opinion, for a great number of reasons but the main one being because I so greatly value what I see as true artistic expression. Being 100% independent, everything you see and hear comes from them, without the filter or influence of labels or directors or arrangers. They create their own arrangements, film and edit their own videos- everything they do is purely their vision as artists, and the results are daring, creative and simply jaw-dropping. Geoff (the bass) has mastered subharmonic techniques, and the way he incorporates it into his singing is incredible; it allows him to hit some low notes that almost defy belief. Layne's beatboxing/vocal percussion has sounds I've never heard another human make before. Eli (his name rhymes with 'jelly''; he's the bald tenor) can sing a bass line, or easily belt just as high as some of Whitney Houston's high notes. He can also sing in a variety of character voices, and still sound damn good doing nit. J. None (the lovely black baritone standing beside Geoff) has one of the smoothest voices you're ever going to hear, and is another one with a pretty shocking range. And you haven't met Cesar yet (their newest member- he joined the group shortly after J. None left to go sing with the US Navy), but you will. He's a bundle of sunshine, wrapped in sass, and his breathy baritenor carries so much emotion and honestly, we're still learning what he's capable of. So far, it's quite a lot. Stick with VoicePlay. You will have so much fun!
@ilonadever82496 ай бұрын
Wonderful reaction! They are a five man group short one permanent member. They lost their high tenor in 2020 for personal reasons and their baritone in 2021 when he was recruited by the US Navy to sing with them. The baritone has been replaced, the tenor has not, so they have a group of collaborators they work with in the Orlando area. Try: Hoist the Colours from Pirates of the Caribbean 3 We Don't Talk About Bruno from Encanto Boy Bands in 5 Minutes for giggles Subscribed in anticipation of more Voiceplay and Geoff Castellucci.

Well, THAT didn't take long... Glad you found VoicePlay so quickly... Interesting side note: all 3 acapella groups have done a couple of songs that included actual instruments... You started on their Disney type performances, so I will recommend Moana, We don't talk about Bruno, and Greatest Showman Medley...

Body percussion in general is much older than the European discovery of America. There are numerous references to it, in musical contexts, dating to antiquity, most famously in the ancient Hebrew book of Psalms. (The hambone, as a more specific form of body percussion, did develop in America, however.) And yeah, telling stories is a major part of VoicePlay's wheelhouse. Sometimes they retell stories you know, as here, and sometimes they use songs that you probably already know, to tell a new story (e.g., In The Hall of the Mountain King, Queen in 5 Minutes).

Since you began with Disney, I see several people have suggested some of their other Disney covers. I will add one that I do not yet see listed here. You really need to check out "Friends on the Other Side" J (who plays Sebastian in this video) came back on his first leave from the Navy to sing that one. And he is magnificent as the villain in it! But the big surprise in it is most of the way through, when Geoff (bass) and Layne (beatbox) kick the rhythm section into high gear! You will also find that Rachel has sung with them so many times that they have their own 'Playlist' of Rachel songs. "Moana" and "Wicked" are great medleys, but one of my faves with her is a really older video (Geoff actually still has short hair in it and you would see two guys that are no longer with the group) - "Phantom of the Opera". It appears to be the beginning of the more modern 'theatrical' VoicePlay.

I'm really enjoying your reactions to a capella music! It's definitely one of my favorite genres. You've checked out Pentatonix, Home Free, and now Voice Play. All three of these groups are absolutely spectacular! But wait! There are several more really great a capella performers out there. I highly recommend Voctave. Voctave is very different from the other groups. There are more members (11--5 women and 6 men) and they don't have a beat boxer (because they don't need one). I recommend two of their covers as a great introduction. The Disney Princess Medley will introduce to the ladies of Voctave while the Disney Heroes and Villains medley will introduce to the men of Voctave. Another really great a capella group is The Bass Gang. It is made up of 4 bass singers (all of whom have great ranges). I recommend two of theirs that are my two favorites of theirs--Gaston (from "Beauty and the Beast") and Friend Like Me (from "Aladdin"). Don't think The Bass Gang does mainly Disney--they don't. Those are just two of my favorites. Then there is Peter Hollens. I recommend his cover of "Shenandoah" (which features Peter by himself) and his collaboration with Tim Foust (the bass singer from Home Free) in their cover of "Misty Mountain" (from "The Hobbit").
