Take a listen to Woody Guthrie doing the early 20th century "talking blues" style. He's probably the most famous performer for this proto-rap style. He did many of them, but two of the best are Talking Dust Bowl Blues and Talking Fishing Blues. They usually include a lot of exaggeration and humor. They have two rhyming couplets followed by 1-3 lines of free verse. It's the same style used for The Beverly Hillbillies theme song in the 60s. A different, but hilarious, talking song is his "Talking Hard Work" (aka Hard Work Blues).
