We're arriving in Singapore! My first time in South East Asia, my first time in this young country... On the way there, I started to read "From Third World to First" from Lee Kuan Yew (recognized as the founding father of the modern Singaporean state!) - I really recommend it if you'd like to learn more about this unique place!
In today's video: let me show you the most unbelievable airport in the world: Changi Airport! Then, let's jump into the MRT (super easy!) to check in at our hotel near Chinatown. It's time to try some kaya toast (delicious!) and explore the neighborhood around... and randomly stumble on the magnificient Buddha Tooth Relic Temple! The sky will clear just in time to get some dinner at Lau Pa Sat (my first hawker center!) before heading towards Gardens by the Bay. Let's end this amazing first day in Singapore by witnessing the amazing light show at the Supertree Grove 🎆

Personal preference/opinion here. I feel that the music that accompanies the light show is best to be instrumental or orchestral. Like Tchaikovsky's "1812", or "Fantasia", or Vivaldi's Four Seasons (?). A vocal track tends to compete for my cognitive attention. Maybe an a cappella version? But musicals are good and evocative as well. I really like your water colour journal and their inclusion in the video. And this "silent" (non-narrative, but sub-titled) video is unique, different, and less intrusive (now i sound like I hate people talking! I'm getting old!). Your video editing brings out the beauty of my country, Thank you.

@@storiesofmilo it's just a dark soy sauce (not "special"). Here we have soft boiled eggs with soy sauce and pepper. It should be near the counter where you collect your food. Some have them in little trays on some tables. If you look around you will see people eating the eggs with them. A slight Asian twist compared to the traditional English way of soft boiled eggs with salt and pepper.

Welcome to Singapore. Love your video and drawings OMG! A friendly reminder not to put your cutleries directly onto the food trays (not hygienic). If you drop by other hawker centres like the biggest one in Singapore at Chinatown Complex or nearer to the heartlands, you will find much cheaper food. As Lau Pat Sat is right smack in the CBD and is a very touristy place.

Singapore is amazing and i been there counless times both in work and explor, but its so expensive to live there nowdays that company's and people leave it more a more.. Especially rent and overall expenses in Singapore .many go over to Bangkok just a cheap 2.5 hourflight away where u can have the same lifestyle 40-50% cheaper than Singapore.

I don't know what to think of Singapore, strong cultural tones mixed with a modern garden city. Some of those streets look like a movie set or something you would see in Vegas. That airport is incredible, better than any shopping centre I've been in 😅 my musical theatre song would be something from the Lion King or Jesus Christ Super star

Hey Singapore, here I come..just kidding, my bank account is like 'girl, you can barely afford a bus ticket to the countryside, let alone a flight to Singapore' 🤣🚌🌳 Guess I'll just have to enjoy your amazing videos in the Gardens by the bay of my backyard🤣🤣🤣. Love the mix of Asian and European architectural styles . Changi Airport is indeed one of the best. The Supertree Light show is breathtaking! It doesn't have to be expensive in Singapore if you know where to go. Your most expensive spend would be accomodation. I don't like living in hotels. Try to hook up with a friend living in Singapore and if he has a spare bedroom, see if he or she will get you stay there for a few days. That is a big part of your of your expenses. Transportation on the metro and buses and food (food courts/hawker centres) is cheap. Metro and buses cost you like $0.99 to $3.00 per trip. Food at food courts or hawker centres range from $6 to $8 a meal including beverage. Cigarettes and liquor is expensive in Singapore because they are heavily taxed (aka "Sin tax")

@@storiesofmilo have u thought of reaching out to the Singapore Tourism Board to offer your influencing skills and journal artworks? I know they have a budget to bring in global influencers to Singapore and they pay for your trip....business class air travel, accomodation (4/5 star hotel), plan your trip itinerary (all expenses paid for)...including places to eat at (local food places). I recently saw they arranged for a group o female influencers from Canada, South Korea, and other Asian countries to visit Singapore on an all expenses paid 5 day trip. These influencers visited some unusual places like a lab where they learn to mix and create their own perfumes, and a scooter ride (with a side buggy) tour the city area by night! Try to reach out and try your luck. A good time to come would be on August 9 (Singapore National Day celebration) or around Nov/Dec as it just before the Christmas season and the whole city would be lighted up into a magical wonderland of sound and lights!

You should try the kaya toast (coconut based jam) and our chicken rice (white / poached) on your next visit. You also walked by some of our more popular hawker centers. (Maxwell market, Chinatown Food market, Hong Lim Food market). Hope to see you in SG again soon. =)

@@storiesofmilo Kaya is a sweet dark green / brownish color jam, made from coconuts, pandan leaves, eggs, caramelised sugar. Kaya toast refers to the kaya jam, spread onto toasted bread. Hope that explains.

Thanks for sharing your experiences with us Milo... Great first day in the 'Forest city'! What i loved about Changi airport is how green it is... even indoors! Apart from the shopping area, it felt like we are in a rainforest. It looks like a place designed for people to enjoy and relax... unlike most other airports which are mainly designed for utility = boring :) If this is what future of the world holds for us will be then I really look forward to it :) While you strolled along Nankin street watching the charming archways and Peranakan houses, I was transported to the 19th century :) You painted the Buddha temple really well... loved it!! I noticed small Tamil script in the corner of your Lau Pa Sat painting - did you learn Tamil??!! I've heard Singapore has a rich tamil culture. PS: BTW, watched Past Lives movie few months ago and loved it!

@@storiesofmilo No, I can't speak/write Tamil... but I have Indian roots and friends, so I know it enough to recognize the script/font😀 To my untrained eye, your writing looked fine, at least from an artistic view! I liked your idea of capturing the spirit of a new place you visit (in your watercolor journal) by writing a phrase or two in the local languages! We collect local small denomination coins or postal stamps for the same reason (and as keepsake)... but yours is perhaps better because one day the world will stop using coins or stamps! 😄

The law requires all property developers to build a certain percentage of greenery into their architecture. This is in line with our vision of Singapore being a garden city or a city in a garden. That's why you may come across wild roosters and chickens running around some parts of Singapore and it is an offence to hunt them. If you are lucky you may see families if otters along the waterways....but don't approach them as they can get protective of their young.

I actually came across a wild rooster around Chinatown (I'll show it in the next video), I thought it was so awesome!! ❤️🐓 I was reading "From Third World to First" from Lee Kuan Yew on my way to Singapore... I have to admit the reason I wanted to visit this city so bad was because I've been fascinated by the creation of the country for the past 1.5 year!! The book is wonderful and I was so glad to see this "garden city" with my own eyes!

hello tourist, @11:52 u left yr used plates bowl cutlery on the table after u finished yr dinner at lau pa sat. it's singapore law to take yr tray of used dishes and cutlery to the tray collection area. This is so the table is cleared for the next diner(s). letting u know this bc the law applies to all public eating places in sg (except in restaurants and hotels where the used dishes are cleared by the staff). so u know what to do after yr next meal in a hawker centre. welcome to singapore😂

Angmohs usually eat with a fork, rather than a spoon or chopstick, because that's the most used tool in Western culture!
