It boggles my mind that there are people who don’t know the Beatles. They were just the best band on the planet and fifty plus years later their music is fresh and relevant. Thanks for checking this out even though it’s out of your usual genre. It’s hard for anyone to dislike their music. Please do more of their music. 🥰

Let´s remember the Beatles existed on the 60s, a very racially segregated time. Even though the Beatles themselves aimed for multiracial crowds, (Although there were exceptions) black people listened to black artists and white people listened to white artists. When the segregation officially (although not practically) ended, kids were passed their parent´s idols who were the same race as them, plus the artists they followed were still their same race. Of course there are always exceptions but that´s they way it happened and only a few artists managed to break the color barrier and have fans from different races (Michael Jackson for example). Also, black people grew apart from rock n roll when white people took over, and focused on other genres that were still predominantly black. So yeah, it´s not a surprise many black people never listened to the Beatles other than the usual hit that featured in a movie or radio just like white people overall don´t know or know too little about artists who were huge on the black community at the time.

@@evan1430 It is easy to determine who wrote a Lennon-McCartney song, in whole or part, by who sings the lead. Too few mention the song "This Boy," which is unfathomable. John, the "rocker," wrote it. And he said the song "Yes It Is," which he hated, was an effort to rewrite "This Boy," but that it didn't work. (Still a great vocal.)

Paul sings the high harmony parts and its ridiculous how good he is at it. How can the same voice that roars the chorus if Oh Darling sing high and soft like that? Lennon does the falsetto at the end.

Exactly. And for Van, the lead on that vocal was John Lennon but he and McCartney were pretty much a team all the time; they had played together since the equivalent of junior high school over here.. And George Harrison can sing backing vocals and Ringo Starr had a few hits singing lead vocal along the way. Him being the drummer.

When you got frustrated with your chair, I laughed my ass off. I've done that 1001 times. The Beates, and John in this case (he wrote this one) hit a universal construct in this song. Something everyone can relate to. "I know I'll never lose affection, for people and things that went before." Everyone relates. And you put it to a great melody and (in this case, early Beatles) basic instrumentals. (The harpsicord sounding part is straight from classical music) And you've got a great song. I consider this to be one of John's best songs, personally. And great music never grows old.
@martinhenderson8636

Watch the videos of Paul in concert. When they start up a Beatles song, the crowd knows it on the first note. They know the melody, the words, the instrumentals by heart. Even people born way after the breakup. But on that first note people light up! The excitement is palpable. The smiles on the faces are evidence. The Beatles were like magic. Just something about them, about those songs. It's an amazing phenomenon that has not been seen since. It will be a sad day when Paul can't do concerts anymore. (and we are very close to that day) He's kept the legacy alive. It will live without him. But when they are all gone it will be very sad. People can cover Paul's songs, John's and George's songs. But it's not the same.

Thank you for noticing their harmonies. These guys could really sing, not just as individuals but as a group. Listen to their live performances. No backtracking...just singing together. And their harmonies are so different for that era. Without getting too technical, the way they constructed their songs, the chord choices and how they harmonized their voices to them were just outstanding and why they sounded so revolutionary and different from anyone else at that time, or perhaps ever.

John and Paul seemed to have a natural ability to harmonize and it also sounded inherently natural without being strained. When George joined in, it gelled into perfection. All three could sing really well on their own. You should look for their video where they sand 'This Boy' live on the Ed Sullivan show. It's a three part harmony that they nailed.

Usually McCartney sang high on harmonies. A lot of times on many songs Harrison was harmonizing with John and Paul, but I think he was usually middle or low range. I don't think he ever sang high parts in early Beatles songs. By the way, so glad you did this one, This period was when they did the classic stuff that really made them big!

He always did the highest part of their harmonies, while usually George Harrison sang the lower part, and John Lennon was usually in the middle. If you didn't know that The Beatles could harmonize like that, you should listen 'Because' (mind blowing harmonies), 'If I Fell', 'The Word', 'This Boy'... they have countless great harmony pieces.

The high notes were either Paul or George. They both had that range. But the harmonies are a blend and you can't always tell who's singing what. The Beatles were dope. And I don't mean weed. By the way, they recorded all of their records on 4-track tape recorders. For Abby Road they got an 8-track machine. The sound they got back then was amazing. (It's better now, but the sound they got from the tech they had then was just amazing.)

One of the many things that I believe made the Beatles so immensely popular was that their voices sounded almost magical when they sang together. In particular, the harmonization btwn Lennon and McCartney is unique bcuz they have the ability to sound nearly identical whenever they sang in unison. During their recording careers as Beatles (which lasted less than 8 years), Lennon would typically sing the lower parts and McCartney sang the upper half. However, they could also blend somewhere in the middle such that it was virtually impossible to tell one voice from the other. In regards to the vocals at the end of the song, my money says that both of them were singing "in myyyy life." After that, Lennon finishes it with "I love you more." FYI: the instrument near the end of the song sounds as if it was a harpsichord, but it's a piano that was initially recorded at a slower speed, then was speed up to match the tempo. The piano was played by George Martin, who was their producer.

Briefly - they went to Hamburg, Germany, to play in the red light district. Up to 12 hours a night, usually 6-8, playing rock n' roll and covers to the whores, their clients and the pimps. That's where they learned to become a good, tight, rock band. They're from Liverpool, England. That's important, because in those days of stultifying radio, they heard the American music the merchant seamen were bringing home from their journeys. When they played Hamburg, they were 19 or younger (George was sent home when they found out he was 17). Then they played at home, got their first record contract and met their genius producer, George Martin (that's him playing the sped-up piano in this piece). They changed music.

@@patticrichton1135 I love Paul’s voice too. Might prefer it slightly to John’s actually. But John had a very versatile voice, he could do gritty, and could also go a lot higher than you’d think as a baritone.

Yes it's very very hard not to like their music n also there is another band CCR which they don't have any of the bad songs like Beatles ❤❤❤

The high harmony is from Paul McCartney, whose voice can change drastically depending on the song. Compare his song Yesterday with his song Helter Skelter.

Hey, I loved the reaction but I don't see that you've done any other Beatles reactions!! Please do more! You should do a song called "Oh, Darling!" Or do "Come Together"!! Great music!

that high voice is McCartney's voice, he can also sing very low in the range of a bass vocalist
