This is an older track, but the lead singer, Saiki, has commented that Miku has gotten pretty good at sounding like her over time. There's a lot of attention put on the instrumentals in Band-Maid's music, but Saiki's breath control and Miku's range tend to get overlooked a bit.

Thanks for the reaction! You seem captured by the _moments_ in "Domination". They are a Band-Maid feature that first caught me with "Play". There's no MV but there is an official live video with a great instrumental intro. (more in the "catchy" category than "Different", I don't want to lead you astray) (also the official lives of "Play" and "Domination" are back to back songs from their Line Cube Shibuya show)

If you keep pausing when they do “cool shit” you’ll never make it through a song 😂. But seriously, pause as much as you need to understand the song. It’s fun to watch. Ignore people who complain about it, they’re welcome to watch the video on their own. Oh, Saiki sounds even better singing live, especially recently. She can not only keep the tone, but she puts more emotion into it. If you’re sticking to MC’s for a bit, I cannot recommend Blooming and Dice highly enough. Dice really highlights the bass like you want here, and Blooming is maybe a perfect song for me.

Great song suggestions; I don't think those tracks have ever hit as hard live as they do in the studio recordings, though Dice at Yokohama came closer than ever.

@@tinyhato I think the quick vocals in Blooming are really tough for Saiki to hit while dancing on stage and stuff. It’s just a lot of precision needed that they could get from takes in a booth, but to do live with the energy they put into their shows is nearly impossible.

There is a separate video that clearly shows how they actually play and how they create the SE sound in the middle and the noisy effect before the guitar solo. It is not a live performance video, but an instrumental video shot side by side in a studio without vocals, and the title is BAND-MAID / DOMINATION [Instrumental] I think this will solve many doubts and satisfy you. The only thing is that there are no scenes where the thighs are exposed like the guitar solo on the table lol.

9 times out of 10 Band-Maid starts their shows with this song. Their shows start at full gallop and you will love the live version of "Domination". I don't know why but as energetic as the MV is, the live version is more so. Don't bother rating their songs - each song you hear will become your new favorite Band-Maid song. The Maids are very consistent and maintain a high standard of quality.

You are very good at this. You pick up so much so quickly. Glad to have you along for the journey and I hope you stick around a while. 😃 Yeah, Saiki's breath control is insane. This isn't even one of the songs where I'd considered it. There are a ton of songs that require a lot more than this one from her. As you said she doesn't throw a lot of "flair" into their songs. I can't find the interview but I'm sure she said she chooses to sing this way on purpose because there's usually something cool going on with the instruments and she doesn't want to distract from that. Band-Maid is synonymous with filling their songs with "cool shit". It's why they are easily my favourite band ever. They fill their songs with so many awesome ideas it's hard to believe they don't collapse under their own weight. The "thighs" in this video have a meaning. The song is about how they're going to take over the world with different methods for different people (they mention addictive gadgets, cryptocurrency and so on). When they go after the Hollywood producers, that's when the thighs show up. So you see it's making a point. This is the most the band has put "sex appeal" into anything since their original album cover/CD insert which...seeing them try to pose sexy is more funny than anything else. It's so not them. Good idea to turn lyrics off. Translating Japanese to English is difficult enough, doing it with song lyrics is harder. And doing it with lyrics that are as metaphorical and sometimes esoteric as Band-Maid's must be nearly impossible. The message behind the songs is usually straightforward, but the way it is communicated is often not. And Band-Maid's music (especially since their 2021 Unseen World album, but on a lot of their earlier work as well) demands all of the listener's attention. Trying to read awkward translations while at the same time picking up everything in a Band-Maid song is nearly impossible. The live version of this song has been for a long time the "go-to" recommendation for introducing people to Band-Maid. Personally it's not in my top 70 Band-Maid songs. Have a great day.

OOPS! You have to do the LIVE version. The Music Video has cool graphics, but the mix is very low. Miku''s lyrics read like poetry, even if it's a bad translation. But don't forget Kanami's songwriting. She is a Riff Jokebox and a Master Arranger. And, it has been acknowledged, that MISA is the most popular member, by far. She has many cognomens. Cool Asian Beauty, The Barefoot Assassin, etc... And the more you get into the songs you'll her Saiki doing "Vocal Magic". But if you liked 'Different' you'll probably like 'Black Hole'. But rating BAND-MAID songs is futile. It depends on your mood at the time, how many times you've heard that song, which genre it's in, etc.... For most their favorite BAND-MAID song is the last one they heard.

I like your style. Thanks for checking out BM. Suscribed. I will say the Live version for Different is a bit lacking. The mix is rather raw and it was a Covid streamed concert without audience. The Live for Domination is great. So much energy. Dice really highlights the bass.

She actually seems to go back and forth between english and Japanese throughout the song. The first few lines are mostly Japanese. Hope this helps! :)
