Every time I listen to Lana: "I don't know how to explain it...."
@Dave-vb4nd2 ай бұрын
When I discovered Lana back in 2012 I would never imagine I would spend a whole decade listening to almost only her music (about 90% Lana 10% music from 60’-70’-80’s), there’s no exaggeration to it at all, that is how powerful she is, everything feels shallow to me after her work. That is my personal experience, first time that I can recall I text this on youtube. So I am at this point where I find interesting watching reactions and get people’s feedback on Lana’s music (for me it’s more than music, as you, I can’t explain it the way I feel it).

16:10 Body Electric references "I Sing the Body Electric", poem by Walt Whitman whicj explores the physical body in connection with the soul. In this poem Whitman establishes the links between the body and the soul by celebrating perfection of the male and female body and the importance the body castes upon the soul and bodies connecting with one another. This song and poem praises the physicality and sensuality of the body. She's singing "We get down every Friday Night". She contrasts sensuality with references of Faith as well, such as Jesus her bestie and Mary praying for her. She mentions Marilyn Monroe who is known as a very Sensual 'American' icon. In the lyrics, we can see Lana deceiving herself; "Pretending I'm not hurt and go about the world like I'm having fun". She sings "We dont need nobody, we got eachother.. or at least i pretend". She pretends to not be hurt and go about partying, embracing and celebrating sensuality of the body and soul.

Soemone online explained Carmen, and I think he nailed it. I remember Lana saying that Carmen is a metaphor for liquor, but after seeing the video, I knew it was about meth anyway, I’m gonna copy & paste his statement: Carmen is a girl who is alcoholic (Lana obviously) but the symbol of Carmen through the song becomes a symbol of crystal meth or methamphetamine. You can see in the chorus, it's really simple. "The boys, the girls, they all like Carmen'' - all her friends like and do meth "She gives them butterflies" - meth helps the release of serotonin (a hormone contributor to well being and happiness) "Her mind's like a diamond" - diamond = crystal "Like lighting, white lighting" - obvious If you watch the Carmen video closely, you can see that the some parts of the video show for a second how methamphetamine affects the central nervous system and the release of serotonin.

@iKate362 ай бұрын
It was probably the most "visual" album of Lana. The music video to Ride is iconic, a masterpiece, you should check it out, the same with her short film Tropico which includes Body Electric, Gods & Monsters and Bel Air. Tropico gives those songs the Bibilical context (at the end this album is called "Paradise" 😉), story of sin and redemption, it represents the dark side of fame and maybe even more specifically the destruction of Los Angeles and chasing that dream. I looove Body Electric for Lana's bring ing there Walt Whitman's poem "I Sing the Body Electric" and she recites it in Tropico. Blue Velvet was used to H&M commercial and it's hilarious and she claps back to the critique she used to get at that time that she's a "product" of her music label and can't sing. Burning Desire music video was made in conjunction with Jaguar.

i luvvvv paradise. the ride music video has been my #1 fav music video ever since it came out. Ride is classic lana, and i think one of the songs that sums up her music the best. famous cola starting line lmao, she actually came up w that line bc a european ex of hers said "american girls walk around like their p tastes like pepsi cola" she refers to men LIKE harvey weinstein in cola, but after his sexual abuse allegations came out she stopped performing this song live. its so good in her lives tho. u gotta stop pausing during the bridgesss lana is queen of the bridges they usually the best part of the songs. blue velvet is a cover :). she usually has a cover in each album. gods and monsters is ab LA and hollywood, she says la la la in the beginning. It's ab the toxic sides of hollywood and how evil the industry is, it takes away one's innocence, she doesn't want to sell her soul for the fame. Paradise's biggest themes r escapism/religion+heaven/freedom. Yayo is a really good song underrated af, but imo the unreleased version of yayo is better than the released one. I think she relates her love for yayo (coke) and the euphoric singing, to the love she has for her man, which also feels euphoric/addictive to her, like drugs. good job on posting so frequently, can't wait for ultraviolence. ur right that she has such captivating music, it does paint a picture in ur mind and thats why i love her.

My man read fantastic article online ~~ 3AM Magazine- lana del rey’s lynchian noir ~~ Is article title. Explains the ghosty background sounds and how sounds a character dead that doesn't know it. Like absolutely layers she is an amazing writer. Anyway from your comments you are perceptvie and I know willl soo love reading it!
@justmegirl23Ай бұрын
See great reading here is some excerpts -It is only when the fantasy takes Diane to a surreal magic show and she listens to a song that she is ejected from the fantasy and back into the reality of her suicide. In Lynch’s ‘Inland Empire‘ Nikki Grace is stabbed by a woman with a screwdriver after an affair and at the moment of death she fantasises about being a successful movie star in a haunted movie project where infidelity, retribution and violence continue to multiply an interior world. Throughout she is being watched by her terrifying double. Lana del Rey sings songs out of the dark shapes of such fantasies. There is a sense of performative action in all this. Her sound draws attention to itself as a performance so each song claims fidelity to their escapist hopes and leaves us with the same sense of dread that pervades Lynch’s worlds. A member of the audience is not excited to offer help, but invited only to grieve… tears and agonies, therefore, are objects of love.’ Del Rey’s tragic ‘American Dream‘ turns the song itself into a lucid dream, perhaps Hollywood - and then the simple dream becomes a nightmare where maybe you die and you’re the last one to know. Maybe you bring your own nightmare with you and maybe the nightmare is what continues in the sounds on the radio, on the video or wherever. The songs bring us back to the origin of events that haven’t yet been lamented or grieved. Throughout we fear we understand far more than the voice that’s singing does. Throughout there are so many occasions where we want to shout at the character: ‘Get out of there. Run. Hide.’ But of course it’s already far too late for escape. These songs happen, like the fantasies in the Lynch films, when some terrible catastrophe is already happening. They are responses as escape mechanisms.
@justmegirl23Ай бұрын
Swear best article ever! 'It’s a link that warns us that del Rey’s is a voice of the dead, someone whose disembodied voice on a radio is what might justify her, make her soul live, but elsewhere. In the last two refrains her body is ‘sweet like sugar venom oh yeah’. She is a degree of magnification, delivering an echo of all the climatic feelings of noir, and when she asks the other to ‘sing it to me’ there’s no one else singing. The disembodied ghost of ‘American dreams’ on the radio suddenly haunts us. Listening to the first lines, we recognize she’s a dead voice, like a sung version of Billy Wilder’s ‘Sunset Boulevard‘ where there’s absolutely nothing in the sound to make us believe her when she claims ‘’Boy I’ve been raised from the dead.’ By the time we’ve finished with ‘Born To Die‘ there’s absolutely no doubt, just as there’s no doubt at the end of Lynch’s ‘Mulholland Drive‘ that the pretty blonde has died way before we get to the final reel. What we see is an after-taste. Everything is recognizable from other songs at greater or lesser degrees or different scales. The tag line of ‘Inland Empire‘ is ‘A Woman in Trouble’ and all del Rey’s songs are contained in that.😮
@Oni_12 ай бұрын
Paradise is a really good album cause it's the last album that has "classic" lana. If you look at the paradise tour clips, you'll know there was a certain aura to her. She was drenched in glamour. She's toned down that old hollywood aesthetic since UV came out. Edit: conceptually. The album starts with Ride which has the line "I've got a war in my mind" and ends with Bel Air which has the line "Lead me to war with your brilliant direction." I think that's very telling of the cyclical "paradise" theme

10:44 "whatdidshe SAYYYY?!" 😅😅😅 Not the expected lyrics from Lana, that's for sure LOLL I'm pretty sure she took what her boyfriend told her and fit it into the song, which in my opinion, is referencing the Harvey Weinstein situation. "Harvey's in the sky with diamonds and he's makin me crazy" "all he wants to do is party with his pretty baby" and I'm pretty sure the line "i pledge allegiance to my dad, for teaching me everything he knows" is saying, "my dad told me all about the evils of the industry, and what NOT to do, or ever be a part of, no matter what" more or less making it clear that she's very aware of what's going on, and what to avoid while navigating the music industry. Which explains exactly why she's never won any of her 11 Grammy nominations. Because unlike so many others, Lana cannot be bought ! Her soul is not for sale ! 🖕 I am loving this journey man. Like i said, you're picking up on things that normally get glazed over this early on. It's really cool to witness. But don't burn yourself out moving too quickly through her discography. Each body of work tends to be really draining, and heavy, consuming them in one sitting. You mentioned that you were gonna sit with each piece of work for about a week or so, and that's a really great way to go about it. That's why i wasn't expecting to see this post by you for a while ! Way to make my day !! This was a lot sooner than i was anticipating ! 😊 Tropico must be next !! And that doesn't have to wait anytime at all because you've already heard the songs, it's only really about fitting everything together for you with her visuals, which i cannot WAIT for you to experience for yourself. That's basically how i feel about all things Lana; The experience for your SELF ! Putting yourself out into these reactions, is much appreciated, but I'm excited to hear more about what the experience ends up being for YOU ! Because Lana will surely get into your head more and more from here on out. It's the Lana effect. Should be studied in every university ! 😅😅😅💙 Okay now, back to the reaction ! I paused it at "whatdidshe sayyyyy?!" 😂
