I became glued to the amazing, sophisticated sound of this band through their " Signify " album ' 96. But I didn't first notice them until back in ' 01. And your perception of their influence by Pink Floyd is pretty accurate, especially with their earlier material. Interestingly, they formed in 1987 in a small community NW of London, the same year Pink Floyd released " Momentary Lapse of Reason." Coincidence or not, I was able to recognize their " Gilmour " style of guitar play right off the bat, the main reason for my attraction to them initially. The album I would recommend that you listen to is " The Sky Moves Sideways. " That one really takes you on a deep, epic like journey that you won't soon forget.

I recomnend, if you do reactions to Porcupine Tree live videos, always try to use the ones that are titled either "live in Tilburg" or "live in Chicago" - they will be from their official DVDs and the visual direction and music quality will be the most superior. You can find this song "live in Chicago".

Porcupine Tree began as the primary force of the band, Steven Wilson ( Of the hair lol) wanting to do some psychedelic / prog rock music. He writes most of the music for this and the other bands he is in: Bass Communion, I E M, and No Man. Porcupine Tree is the most successful of them however. They have a devoted following in the EU but have a strong fan base in USA and other countrys. This performance BTW was for a German TV show Rockplast. I have followed the band since 1992 and agree that the vibe is VERY similar to the Floyd. Although I can say Steven sometime rankles at the comparison. Thank you so much for doing the reaction !
