I think this is a nationwide game but more popular in the east coast region. I live in KL and played gasing when I was a kid. only smaller. We call the small ones as gasing bawang, for bawang is onion and it's literally the size of an onion. some people call it gasing pangkah, for pangkah means 'to aim'. we play it on hard sandy ground, and the objective is to aim other people's gasing which trapped inside the circle after loosing it's spin. whether you choose to aim at the other gasing on the side so you can hit them out of the circle (if it's your friend's gasing), or you can choose to aim other gasing at the center, hit it hard to break it apart or do as much damage to it's surface with your gasing's nail.

Its called "pakuk".. it is like a smaller form of gasing.. there a few rules to it. 1. All must throw gasing at the same time and lift it up using the rope and make it spin on your palm. The one who manage to do that first will be the attacker. 2. Defender need to throw the gasing in the middle of the circle/box, the attacker will attack.. if the attack successful and the attacker gasing is still spinning, you can continue to attack. The defender is lose if their gasing get out from the box/circle or destroyed by the attacker.. How i miss my childhood memories...

When I was in elementary school, we used to play gasing a lot. Though the way we played it was more competitive, where we tried to either crack the other dudes' gasing or to kick the other gasings out of the circle using our own gasing. The longest gasing still in the circle would win the game. It's surprising to me that some kids these days don't even know what a gasing is when I asked them while they played games on their ipads.
