Gameplay tips: -Reloading in the white square will reload your gun faster & give your bullets a damage bonus for a few seconds, if you hit the reload too soon/late your gun will jam. -Emergence holes will close by itself but only after unloading all its enemies. Close it sooner with a grenade. -You can blind-fire your gun (and grenades) from cover, just shoot without aiming to fire your gun in the general direction you’re facing. This lets you stay hidden from gunfire. -Hold B to use the chainsaw on your gun, get in close and witness the carnage.

I'd like to add: -When in cover, you can sometimes quickly switch/change cover by using stick+A -Use LB (I believe LOL) if you need to know where your teammates are -If you run towards a door, you'll automatic kick it open

So glad you’re choosing to play this. I think you’ll really like the story. Just a bit of background on this game, the world you’re on is called Sera (not earth), 14 years ago a race of underground monsters known as the Locust horde attacked the surface of the planet killing people everywhere. You play as Marcus Fenix, a veteran soldier (soldiers are gears) imprisoned these last 4 years for disobeying orders. The COG stands for Coalition of Ordered Governments, that’s who you (and your fellow gears) work for. That’s all I’ll say.

It's so funny how you point out the combat arena at 10:05 by noticing the waist-high cover blocks, looking back I think it was this game that originally gave people that instinct. I remember reading in the manual something about the devs being inspired by playing paintball matches and it shows in the combat for sure.

It's so cool seeing someone experience the Gears series for the first time, one of my favourite series of all time. The first game is a bit clunky but they do get a lot more fluid with each game. The setting where the games take place is the Planet Sera, which is a the Greek God Ares spelt backwards. The Locust is the name of the enemy faction as a whole, some of the human characters call them Grubs as like a nickname, then there's different types of Locust. The standard foot soldier of the Locust are called Drones of which you have different types of them as well. For example the Grenadiers are the guys that usually have Shotguns and they use grenades as well, they tend to rush and be quite aggressive. Definitely look forward to seeing you play the game more 😁

Gears is a series that really doesn't have an equal, one that knows what it wants to be (for the most part): angry, funny, and so grim you'd think you were in Warhammer - and while I'm all about Master Geez, Fenix & Co. grows on you... and make sure you count the Carmines as you meet them ☠

Uh oh, this’ll be good, you’ll love all 7 games in the franchise and you’ll love Marcus and Dom. Love you jonesy and keep up the great work. Tips, reload at the right time with the white scare to get reload faster and make sure you abuse the weapons you use, when you see a emergence hole use a grenade to take them out, and when you shoot the locust (the guys you’re fighting snd the ones who were making those notices) in the knees, they’ll go down and you’ll get a chance to execute them by getting close to them and pressing X, use the chainsaw by holding B , it’s extremely cool, when you’re using the troika, it’s important you use aim to get better shots

I can't believe that no-one suggested you play Gears of War! Easily one of my top franchises ever, and arguably best franchises in general. I really hope you do all the Gears games; I'll be there for them 🤙 You're going to love it; it has a fantastic story and gameplay, but get ready for the feels in this series. One piece of advice if i may.. Always play the tutorials in the Gears games, asyou get a bit more story with them, and often introduces new game mechanics and characters.

Humans vs reptiles, that be the story. When you reload if you hit the right bumper again when the line is over the white you'll get what's called an active reload, this will give you enhanced ammunition and better ammo capacity for a certain amount of time.

Marcus was in prison because he disobeyed orders from Hoffman (his colonel) because Marcus tried saving his dad. Hoffman needed him to deliver the targeting optic to another soldier who had the hammer of dawn (very powerful weapon) to assist other gears soldiers who were in need of it & to prevent the locust from taking over the east barricade in Chancery Bridge. It resulted in the death of all gears except 2

Interesting, this will be another new one to me. Although I think there was a Windows release of the first one at one point it was pretty much an Xbox title and I would have been playing PC games at the time (and before it). I never owned an Xbox or a PlayStation so have only seen others play the popular titles from those systems. Looking forward to checking it out.

So happy your starting gears! If you need lore questions that arent spoilers (theyre covered in the books or comics) ill explain it! Gears doesnt do a great job in going into the full backstory in game, same as halo. Also gears 2 will blow you away in terms of story. This one is great but nowhere near the level of the rest!

@@JonesySpaceCat the books in order are Gears of war Aspho Fields, Jacintos remnant, Anvil Gate then The Slab then Coalitions End So the Cog tags stands for Coalition of Ordered Governments. The pendulum wars was an 80 year long war between the UIR (Union of Independent Republics) and the Cog. Think Nato vs Soviet union. The war would start then end start then end constantly all for imulsion which is a fuel source. Aspho Fields was a battle in the pendulum wars If you want me to tell you why marcus was in prison i will, but he was in prison 10 years after Eday, so he only spent 4 in the slab itself

22:56 Jonesy, the hole was already closed. A tip on E-Holes is that you can either plug the hole with the grenade while enemies are still active or you can just eliminate the enemies and the hole will eventually plug up themselves. 😊❤️. Jonesy, save the grenades!

There is a book series for the gears of war pre gears of war 1. It tells what happens at aspho fields. I highly recommend reading after you play the series.

47:30 Jonesy, a tip is that if you have the Lancer out, you only have the option to hold B and activate the chainsaw. You can’t like hit guys with the butt of your weapon for example. Only other guns have that option. Plus, once you reload, you can’t melee while on that animation. 😊❤️
