Bobby's range, quality of voice, and modulations are unmatched. This performance was before any sophisticated electronic computer autotone existed-to mask or enhance a singer's voice. A singer had to have REAL TALENT--which Bobby did!

Hi and thanks for playing this beautiful song. This is a rare time when a non studio version of a song is actually just as good or better. How Bobby hit that last series of notes ill never know. But it comforted a lot of people then and now. God Bless Lhen
@entropy20022 жыл бұрын
The studio recording didn't have that "into the stratosphere" finale. Bobby really liked the acoustics of Andy Williams' set and wanted to really go for it. Bill Medley advised against risking it on live TV, but Bobby did it anyway- the rest is history.

I have to say. I am 83 years old and it makes me so happy to see you young people looking back to my youth and realizing that our music was great then and even better today. Thank you. My thoughts. If you wonder why boomers hate AUTO TUNE so much, this is why. We miss the days when singers could actually sing! No tricks, no redos, no second chances, no autotune, no nothing but his talent.

Hi Lehn. Your reaction to Unchained Melody was so sincere and genuine. Most importantly, you deferred your reactions until the video was over. I know this video has gone viral world wide! I have seen so many reactions around the world; I get the same emotional euphoric feelings every time I watch Bobby Hatfield singing live. Just some background on this live performance which was in Oct 1965 on the Andy Williams show. First his family was in attendance; he and his partner, Bill Medley flipped the coin to see who would sing the song; finally, the most remarkable part of his masterpiece, was that he added the finale which isn’t in the original album release and the 45 rpms. What ingenuity to add the classical finale just for this live performance! Finally, I would be very grateful if you would react to Amira Willighagen’ s Soprano and past hit songs, such as The Sound of Music! Just a quick background on Amira. She started at age 7; self teaching watching KZbin Soprano videos. Age 9, Amira was in the Holland Got Talents Contest; she won the finals! Thank you Lehn for allowing me to make my reactions. God Bless You and all Your Subscribers!

Bobby's mother was in the audience that night, so he was nervous. He channeled that nervous energy into one of the greatest performances ever. You can tell by his reaction at the end that he knew he had nailed it. Many people have covered this song, but nobody has sung it better than Bobby Hatfield. This is his song, he owns it.
@LhenJhenTV3 жыл бұрын
Why he was nervous if he's mother was there? Yes I agree with you I was listening to other singers version also who covered this song and in my own opinion Bobby voice was better than other singers. It's like he owns it. And I found out also he was not the first one who sang this song but sounds like the song is just only for him.

This song takes on more meaning when understood in context...the song comes from a prison movie about a man doing time and singing to his love from prison...In 1954, Alex North was contracted to compose the score for the prison film (released in 1955).... North then asked Hy Zaret to write the lyrics, but Zaret initially declined, saying he was too busy painting his house. North was able to convince him to take the job, and together they wrote "Unchained Melody."...and the rest is history...maybe the most beautifully written romantic song of all time...and as I understand Zaret did eventually get his house painted.

HI LHEN, CAN YOU BELIEVE A PERFORMANCE LIKE THIS FROM 1965 ? ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL - SO ELEGANT AND BEAUTIFUL- SO PURE AND CLEAN & SOUL GRIPPING I HAVE HEARD MANY VERSIONS OF THIS SONG (incl Elvis & Neil Diamond), BUT BOBBY HATFIELD SUNG IT THE BEST - PERIOD. HE WAS GIFTED BY GOD & SUNG IT LIKE AN ANGEL I HAVE SEEN MANY GIRL REACTORS AND MOST WERE SO EMOTIONAL OR TEARY OR SPEECHLESS OR OVERWHELMED OR SIMPLY "FELL IN LOVE" WITH HIM & THIS SONG. BOBBYS VERSION WAS SUCH A CLASSIC THAT IT WAS IN THAT FAMOUS FILM "GHOST" STARRING PATRICK SWAZYE & DEMI MOORE. THIS SONG & THAT FILM WERE A MATCH

I sang this to my wife at our wedding in 1983. She, however she said I murdered it. I'm guessing it's not a song for a baritone, she told me I was of better sticking to my drumming. I thought it was an appropriate song as I was in the Royal Marine Commandos, I had returned from the war for the Falkland Islands when I proposed, and now was shipping out to Sierra Leone two days later, so much for my attempt at being romantic. On the upside she liked me in my Dress Uniform, and having my comrades forming the sword tunnel helped. I must have done something write because we're still together. With 4 children and 7 grandchildren, we got busy on baby's when I was home. I served my Queen and Country for 34 years as a Royal Marine Commandos and Specialist Forces, and then 2 years in hospital, and she stuck by me even though I'm wheelchair bound now. We do actually have a song by Queen called "Your Me Best Friend", a very apt song as she has been my best friend since we were 16.
