Saint Seiya is amazing series. The story is about "Saints", who are brave young men chosen (more by fate tbh) to be knights for goddess Athena. They use their bodies as weapons. According to the legends their fist can split air, their kick can rip earth. Each Saint is represented by constellation of stars. Seiya is Saint of Pegasus constellation symbolized by winged horse. Yes, it's very loosely based on Greek and other mythology. It's kind of Lord of The rings mythology heavy universe meets action fighting shounen. One of my favorite series. It has many great characters including some antagonists. It has plentiful epic moments. Recommend to watch subs, because the soundtrack and amazing lines in the original dub. The anime compared to source manga has some slightly better moments, but it has some unnecessary filler, which works against logical progression, but at the time it was pretty common for series to have filler. Maybe downside for some it has this "pretty boy" design so some of the characters are looking effeminate. Honestly, more people should watch/react to the series. It was butchered even more then DB in US, but super popular in Latin-America. The Hades arc is adapted as OVA later (2002-2008). For that reason the quality is visibly higher than in the older TV series (1986-1989).

Saint Seiya/Knights Of The Zodiac is amazing anime and it was and still is very popular in many countries. There're also spin-offs, a live action that was released last year (I think it's now on netflix or hbo), movies, a netflix 3d remake (which I confess I don't like hehe, but the second season gets better). A lot of things, but now I think you should react to the openings of the spin-offs “The Lost Canvas” and “Saint Seiya Omega”.

Hello. Saint Seiya (Knights of the Zodiac as it was known here in Brazil), was and still is very successful here in Brazil and in Latin America in general. I'm a fan of Saint Seiya, it was my first anime that I ever saw in 1996 (when it premiered here in Brazil), I highly recommend this anime, I guarantee you will like it despite it being a dated anime by today's standards.

Ok, need to explain Saint Seiya a little... The purple haired girl is Saori Kido or, as she's commonly known, the Goddess Athena. Yep, she's the reincarnation of the Goddess Athena. She is protected by her personal army of 88 Saints, those are the guys in armor that you see. Each Saint represent and is powered by one of the 88 constellations of the night sky, and are divided roughly into 3 ranks named after the material their armor is made of: Bronze, the lowest and most numerous, Silver, the middle one with roughly 20 members, and lastly the Saints of the 12 zodiac signs that are the Gold Saints. The armor is both a protection and a focus of their power, and is somewhat sentient, as it can decide to leave a Saint which it doesn't recognize as worthy anymore (that's what Cancer's armor did) or protect a Saint who's not her "legal owner". As for power, the manga (and anime) is strangely scientific in that, as it provides only the movement speed, and power (or force) is the product of mass and speed. So, Bronze Saints can move at around the speed of sound, Silver Saints can vary greatly from around 10 times the speed of sound for the weakest ones to around 100 times the speed of sound for the stronger ones, the Gold Saints are in another category altogether, as they all can move at lightspeed. Plus, certain armors are special, as they're not merely inspired by the constellation, they're the materialization of the myth behind that constellation, so Pegasus' armor (Cloth in the manga and anime) can sprout wings, Andromeda comes equipped with pretty much sentient chains, Phoenix can regenerate after being destroyed, Gemini causes its wearer to develop 2 different personalities, one the embodiement of good and one of evil, Perseus has a shield that can petrify their opponents if they look at it (as the legendary Perseus used Medusa's head as a shield), and so on.

I remember as a kid, I was confused too by all the metaphoric stuff when characters used their special attacks. "Is that guy turning into a horse?" I didn't like it at first, but it soon became one of my favorite anime. It's one of the cases where the anime is clearly superior to the manga. Shingo Araki's character design and Seiji Yokoyama's music were doing a lot of heavy lifting.

There are 5 “bronze saints” The main character, Seiya is the main character and is the Pegasus Saint, he is the fastest character, the blonde guy is Hyoga the Cygnus Saint he specializes in really cold wind attacks, like -460 F, Shiryu is the blind dude the dragon Saint, he has the green armor he is a skilled martial artist and have attacks based on dragons, Shun is the Andromeda Saint he has a pink armor and uses chains like his constellations andromeda, and the final and most powerful Saint is Ikki the Phoenix knight, he was trained on hell on earth and have a powerful unbreakable will and wind+fire attacks

The first opening featuring 10 peoples(or saints as the title), but thats because of the anime aired before the manga go further. After a few arcs the author keep five of the famous one and the plot advancing leaving the other minor five back on the 3rd opening the golden armor saints are the highest heirarchy on their rank. and our main characters are the lowest one. first opening is for around 70+ episodes and the second one is used until eps 114 then the anime is stopped. Until around 2002 the continue with the new one with 3rd opening (actually in the series they put back the first opening right after the 3rd one finish before start the episode) and on the 4th opening there are peoples with black armor, they are the spectres, enemy of the saints.

Saint seiya (manga) came about a year AFTER Dragon ball (og), both are somewhat late 80s/early 90s. (~1989 to the 90s)... but Saint Seiya hit the "shonen" quicker than Dragon Ball, people like to Call DBZ the father of modern shounen but it really was saint seiya, OG dragon ball wasn't really as much of a shounen outside of the tournament arcs, saint seiya starts off in an insane tournament arc with Dragon Ball Z level of epicness.

Saint Seiya is incredibly popular in Latin American countries. Here in Brazil it was the first anime to become popular and caused other animes to arrive here. Unfortunately Sain Seiya doesn't have much relevance today, because of its creator who is a complete lazy person. Those of you from North American countries should see Saint Seiya and its OVA's which are incredible too.

The first OP has a lot of people because right at the batch we have a tournament and all of those are fighting in the tournament, but most of them don't show up anymore when the tournament is over. Here in México in the 80s and 90s Saint Seiya was huge, it's about reencarnation of god athena who has to be protected by this teenagers whom have been granted this armors called "cloths" wich every single one has a constelation form. Like pegasus, cignus, dragon... also their powers are based on this, but is more simbolic, it's not like they are really summoning this creatures. The characters of the show are stepbrothers who had born with that purpose and they fight against other god's army because all they want to kill Athena.

Saint Seiya premiered in the early 2000s in the USA, so by the time it got there, it was already way too old. Also: it only aired during very early morning on sundays, so a lot of people didn't even know it existed because they weren't awake to watch anyways.

Seint Seiya was HUGE in Mexico. The manga was on Shonen Jump and was Dragonball's ONLY major competition when it released in 1986, before the anime adaptations. I watched this anime every single Saturday morning along with the first Dragonball in the early 90s. What a time to be alive!

you need to see the original serie en 1080p uffff the animation and the music, mithtology and astrology, and please look at the original uncensored version that unfortunately did not reach the US for the protection of American children of that time and unfortunately it was a failure because they cut many scenes, changed the blood to green and also changed the original music to generic music, Thank God, now the uncensored and unmodified version of the music is available in the United States just as we saw it here in Latin America without censorship and with the original music and you will be surprised to know that we saw it in Latin America when we were 4 to 7 years old. age was a total success throughout Latin America and Europe, unfortunately not in the US because I mentioned before, in short, enjoy the series, you will be very surprised, I will support you by seeing your reactions if you get to see all the episodes.

You Americans never got the taste of this anime uncensored and in the 90’s because they thought it was too much for you. Also in 2004 it got dubbed and the dub was terrible and so was the opening music. They did you dirty. There’s a documentary of how Saint Seiya was a hit everywhere except USA.

This is my favorite anime. It influenced a lot of my own works. The story is heavily based on Greek mythology with some others thrown in. The characters wear cloths, armors, based on the 88 constellions and are divided into three classes. Bronze, the lowest and what the mains use, Silver and Gold which are based on the 12 Zodiac signs. These are Athena's Saints, not be mistaked with Catholic saints, more like holy warriors. The main story is a civil among the saints, then Poseidon and finally Hades. The third opening is very reflective of what happens in the first part of that arc. It is very somber and hits hard if you have been reading/watching the series since the start. One opening they didn't put was for a filler season that was called Asgard. It was strictly done because the manga caught up to the anime so quickly. It is the same as the second but showing the Asgradian warriors instead of Poseidon's. It is worth watching but their are several plot changes that kinda make the story confusing. I recommed reading the manga thats on the Shonen App. The story is still going on with them going back in time and that will end soon. The final chapter named Heaven might actually become a reality to wrap up the series.

Saint Seiya is a cult classic among Japan, Europe and Latin America and is massively popular there too as much as Dragonball. As my sister likes to call this series, "its Sailor Moon but with boys". Main plot of the story is a group of young boys are the Saints of Athena to protect the Earth and the goddess against other greek gods from conquering the universe/multiverse. Each Saints represents one of the 88 constellations of the stars, the main 5 characters represent the Pegasus, Dragon, Cygnus, Andromeda, and Phoenix. The men in Gold armor are the 12 Gold Saints who represent the 12 signs of the Zodiacs and are the strongest members of the Saints who can fight and travel at lightspeed. The source of power of a Saint is the Cosmos, which is the essense of the universe itself that allows a Saint to unleash a big bang at an atomic scale. I would recommend also to react the other Saint Seiya openings (Lost Canvas, Omega, Soul of Gold, Saintia Sho)

Nice reaction! It would be great to see you react to the whole show. Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac is one of the all-time best animes and I only discovered it last year. A hidden gem for anyone in the US who likes old school anime, Greek Mythology, and an amazing OST. Part of the original big three along with Dragonball and Fist of the North Star. Not to be missed and hugely influential on much that came after, especially Bleach. There is definitely a Powers Rangers meets Sailor Moon vibe to Saint Seiya. The main series is 114 episodes currently on Crunchyroll and the final arc (about 30 episodes) done as OVAs is called Hades and can currently be found on both Tubi and Pluto TV. There are many spin-offs but the basis for everything is the original 80s version and Hades OVAs. If you want more after that you can explore whatever spin-off you like, including the current CGI remake. Season 1 is on Netflix and is considered controversial due to very rushed pacing, and new villain, and genderbending of one of the main characters, but season 2 (and upcoming season 3 this year) which are on Cruchyroll are considered a huge improvement and quite good as they retell the show's most popular story arc. The theme song you like the best, the third one, is called Chikyuugi and is sung by Yumi Matsuzawa. It's great! And if you make it that far into the anime you will cry your eyes out when it shows up in the OST. Claymore is great. Definitely a favorite of mine. Theresa was my favorite character from that show.

So, Saint Seiya is basically the knights trying to protect the goddess Athena. From what I know, when this anime went to the USA it was censored, I think that's why it wasn't as successful, but in Latin America and Europe it wasn't that's why it's very famous.

The sequel, St Seiya Omega, was quite self-censored too. It didn't felt right to me because the characters weren't losing ten gallons of blood in every fight like in the original series.

If you are interested in sequel to the Saint Seiya it's manga "Saint Seiya NEXT DIMENSION", which is still ongoing albeit very slowly. Omega is spin-off. The issue with Saint Seiya is countless spin-offs and side stories. Less is more in this case. Decent Saint Seiya post the original series is the Next Dimension, recent spin off RERISE OF POSEIDON manga seems quite nice too and Lost Canvas I would put as number 3. The rest is all over place from what I have seen.
