I think if Agelina is wearing a flower crown it's a Norwegian cultural thing, but if it's a single flower she's referring to Billie Holiday, who used to do that a lot.

Egil Clausen, he was AJ's original guitar player that appeared in many of the videos from Norway before she moved to LA. Angelina Jordan does not need purple hair, a lightshow, backup dancers, fireworks, or even a band, all she need is one or two instrument to make us realize how great she is.

One of the many things I appreciate about Angelina, and especially her family, is the opportunity that she and they have given us with their documentation of her life. This is a very camera happy family, and thank God for that. Thanks to all their videos we get to live part of her childhood with her. It's partly why we love her as much as we do. She's like an adopted daughter or grand-daughter (and for some of us, great-grand-daughter). I am so proud of everything this unbelievably lovely lady of today has accomplished while still maintaining her inner beauty.

Roberta Flack was the 'Gold Standard' for this song. Angelina stays 'spot on' with Roberta's version but the ever so subtle difference she applies reveal that she brings forth the passionate 'runs' and 'inflections' that only a true jazz specialist can bring to the fore. This was learned from Billie Holiday and why Angelina has said she wouldn't be the singer she is if not for Billie's influence. I have to believe that Roberta's beautiful rendition was also inspired by listening to Billie as well, for it was good enough to win a Grammy.

@@DWilliams-ce8nb Agreed ! But they all owe so much to Billie Holiday, for if you examine how Billie could add so much more feeling to a song, above and beyond the other jazz greats of her time, in a way no one had ever done before, you come to see how her form of singing would try to be emulated by singers like Roberta and Angelina, which was not an easy task by any means, and beyond the ability of even great 'A-List' singers.

Roberta is the greatest. The cover by George Michael is divine
@ridgemanron Жыл бұрын
@@bojanalukic8515 It's funny that you mention George Michael, for he would sing an Amy Winehouse song in concert that he considered to be the best written heartfelt ballad that he ever heard. The song was called 'Love Is A Losing Game' and is presented beautifully by Amy in 'Lyric Version' on You Tube. Would love to hear Angelina's interpretation of it and it should be noted that both Angelina and Adele are huge fans of Amy, to the point where Adele wrote a similar titled song called , 'Love Is A Game', which Angelina has covered. It's easy to see how Adele would have written it, knowing Amy's song very, very well. As good as Adele's is with regard to lyrics, it in no way comes close to Amy's song, and George Michael felt Amy was a genuinely genius writer, which came to total fruition in her Grammy winning 'Back To Black' album, of which 'Love Is A Losing A Game' was part of.

If you noticed, she is reading the words off her tablet in her lap. The guitarist is Egil who’s Norwegian and has been playing for her since she was about six years old. This is probably the first time they’ve done this song together. If you go back and notice, at the end she gets all embarrassed because of the line about “kissing your mouth.” I’ve been watching your cousin forever and am so happy you have joined the Angelina train. I always watch MrL’s reactions and appreciate his knowledge of music as well. Thank you, Britt! PS - This song was featured in the film Avatar as he sang it to her. (I don’t really know the story as I’ve never seen the whole movie.) I just remember how effective it was in this scene.

This is one of her most beautiful songs & I think it's a Masterpiece, even though she is singing it "on the fly" while reading the lyrics on her phone. She even confused some of the lyrics, but who cares because she is conveying so much emotion & it sounds so freakin' beautiful. She is 11 yo in this which makes it incomprehensible! Your description of her voice in this was spot on Britt.

Great reaction Britt. This song was written by Ewan MacColl for Peggy Seeger in 1957. In 1972 it became a hit with Roberta Flack where it won her a Grammy and is the version Angelina is covering. In the other hand I get to experience another version of the song and artist.

It is a testimony to Angelina's ability, artistry, and musical intuition (as well as her comfort with and confidence in Egil Clausen) that when she says to him "ok, let's give this a try" this is the staggeringly good result in one maybe two takes with no studio. This (though written to a future wife that would break up the songwriter's then marriage) is an excellent song and was Song of the Year in 1972 for Roberta Flack. Like many of her covers, Angelina seems to only stop at iconic pieces that are written well enough to support the nuances she will introduce onto them. She rarely sings anything one could call "fast-food" pop music. Nearly all her work (upon which she does hone and perfect her craft as you said) is on timeless well-known even famous songs from whatever era! She never gets in a hurry, even using the silences, the gaps, and the anticipations to enhance the story she is telling.

Roberta Flack made this song famous, the same from ‘Killing Me Softly’. The phrases are prolonged so beautifully and she does all kind of interesting stuff with the pauses and tempo as well. Angelina’s singing is like a fresh summer rain after a long hot day: a little sprinkle to make you feel better and refreshed. I think all her TikToks are excerpts from her rehearsing at home. When the great Roberta Flack recorded this song, she was 32 years old. It was in 1969. In this video Angelina Jordan is 11 years old and indeed her melismas are amazing for a child of this age !!! Clarification about the song. In 1971, Clint Eastwood chose "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" for the soundtrack of his thriller "A Chill in the Night". The success was immediate and the single released for the occasion reached the first place of the American charts.

6,181,422 views Jan 29, 2018 "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" is a 1957 folk song written by British political singer/songwriter Ewan MacColl for Peggy Seeger, who later became his wife. At the time, the couple were lovers, although MacColl was still married to Joan Littlewood. Seeger sang the song when the duo performed in folk clubs around Britain. During the 1960s, it was recorded by various folk singers and became a major international hit for Roberta Flack in 1972, winning Grammy Awards for Record of the Year and Song of the Year. Billboard ranked it as the no. 1 Hot 100 single of the year for 1972. AJ version is so much better than the original.

Yes, Angelina is the best singer I’ve ever heard, but this is one of the very few times I prefer the hit version by Roberta Flack. She was such an incredible talent.
