He says in the recording if this is "Austin" as a code for her to know that he is still in love with her, Austin is just where she went but that was the major discussions they had, so by saying "If this is Austin, I still love you", he is referencing her and going to Austin.

My Blake Shelton story - right after Ole Red came out, he played Blacktop Boogie (the country station i worked for summer concert). I was told to hang out in his dressing room & make sure no one came in. I had to go see him perform and when I finally got back to his dressing room - he was already there and I went bursting in and I said I’m here to protect you. I’m all of 5 foot 1 and he’s like 6’5”. He just burst out laughing

Here is a challenge. Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani "Nobody But You". The first of two back-to-back duets Blake released with Gwen Stefani to hit #1; the other is "Happy Anywhere". I will bet you will be very surprised at how well their voices sound together. Gwen cried both times that Blake asked her to sing on the songs. It has always been a dream to collaborate with him since 2014. Of course, "Go Ahead and Break My Heart (GAABMH) was the first duet, which was debuted on the Voice in May 2016. They wrote that together during the late summer of 2015, via text message. NBY was not written as a duet, but Blake turned it into one. During an interview with one of the writers, Blake stated that he thought that it was written with him and Gwen in mind; the writer said they did.

I’m so proud of my fellow Okie Blake by God Shelton! This song came out when I was 18 same as Blake. I two stepped holes in the bottom of my boots to this song at the Midnight Rodeo Tulsa Oklahoma. Blake is one of the most down to earth dudes even though he’s famous. I got to see him at the Oklahoma Opry when I he wasn’t as big as he is now and even then I knew that he’d be the top of the mountain. I got to see him in Tulsa in 2017 it was awesome we got to see Gwen show up to sing Go Ahead and Break My Heart as a surprise. Britt the voice mail is setup by the guy. By Austin he’s referring to the girl because she went to live in Austin. He’s letting her know that he still loves her. Then she calls and leaves him a message and tells him yes it’s Austin and I want you back. This was Blake’s first single!

Blake Shelton has so many songs that's really special to me it's hard to choose which one that I could say is my favorite, needless to say I'm a Shelton fan. 😏 Hey Britt, I thought I'd drop off another suggestion. I believe you've listened to one song by the amazing "Trio" Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt so I thought I would leave another song for you to give a listen, if interested "Those Memories Of You/Dolly Parton/Linda Ronstadt/ Emmylou Harris feat. Mark O' Connor Solo" this is a live performance. (The picture quality isn't the absolute best, but the sound quality is pretty decent.) (IMO) In 1987 these three like-minded women decided to create an album together. And in doing so they created something rare, a collaboration between three major stars that was never about ego; instead, these three brought out the very best in each other. Something that is most certainly lost in todays music industry, on average. Loved your reaction, I look forward to analyses. You never fail to put a smile on my face or lift me up with your humor. Yeah...... That's always been a peeve of mine with this song as well. There's another one for Craig Morgan that's actually really funny..... But yes I have always just assumed that nothat not only did she move to Austin but maybe her name was also Austin. Or maybe she's the only person living in Austin that he would know so he just uses the city "if this is somebody from Austin I know who you are and I still love you." Now the funny Craig Morgan line. In the song International harvester... There's A-line that says I'm the son of a 3rd generation farmer, I've been married 10 years to the farmer's daughter. For the longest time that made me laugh because it sounds like hes marrying his sister. In that case my question would be whether or not his sister's name is Ilhan.

The last call is him calling her back after she left her number. She then tells him "this is no machine you're talking to, can't you tell? This is Austin.........and I still love you!" OK, here goes. She needed time to herself so she went to Austin like she had spoke about doing so many times before. After a year, she called him and she got his clever message which ended with, if this is Austin, I still love you. She called back a couple days later and got his next clever message which ended with if this is Austin, I will call you back on Sunday and this time, she left her number. On Sunday, he called the number and got what he thought was a recording but then she tells him that by the way, this is no recording, this is Austin and I still love you.

You would know who Austin was if two things were true. 1. The capital of the state of Texas is Austin. 2. If you listened to the lyrics, you would know that the woman he loves was probably in Austin, ergo, a call from Austin wasn't going to be anybody but her.
