Great song, and Etta definitely sings the hell out of it, an unquestionable masterpiece. If you will entertain a cover version, you might enjoy Stevie Nicks rendition. I think she’s pays proper respect to Etta’s original.

Etta James not only could sing, but she knew what to sing. I love that you feature so many of the great female artists of the mid to late 20th century. I feel so fortunate to have grown up in an era in which all I had to do was turn on the radio and sounds like this came out. You should sample a little Sarah Vaughn.

Etta James was a great singer who performed in various genres, including blues, R&B, soul, rock & roll, jazz & gospel in the 50's-80's. She had an amazing powerful voice. She had so many hits such as "At Last", "Stormy Weather", "The Wallflower", "Tell Mama", "Something's Got A Hold On Me", "If I Can't Have You", "Spoonful", "All I Could Do Was Cry", "My Dearest Darling", "A Sunday Kind Of Love", "Fool That I Am", "Don't Cry Baby", "Losers Weepers", "I Found A Love" etc.

Please do the live version of this if only for yourself. Miss Etta played that audience like a violin. Half the time she didn't even use her microphone she just belted it out. She also had a wicked sense of humor. Love, love, love this woman. "At Last", was another favorite of mine by Miss Etta James. Thanks for the time and thoughts you share. Peace✌

My favorite blues hit that Etta James sings is "Tell Mama" POWERFUL.. so powerful that the song was covered by Janis Joplin which also became a big hit for Janis! If you like Etta James' Blues, you should also react to KoKo Taylor, another GREAT BLUES singer who sings with power! :) I strongly recommend you react to KoKo Taylor's big blues hit "i'm a Woman" and experience that power for yourself :)

Hey Britt... I see you did indeed react to Angelina's cover (not my fave of hers) of this gorgeous song... and you also reacted to it with Beth Hart and Joe Bonamassa.. now that cover I adore.. and Beth is one of the best blues singers of our time and Joe the king of Blues guitar. Etta singing this song.. is my ALL TIME FAVE song.... ever!!! I loved that you loved it. I know the subject matter is a bit dated.. but that takes nothing away from Etta's pure magical artistry!!!! 🤩😍 I do also love Holly Miranda - I'd Rather Go Blind (Etta James Cover) (@Super Bock Super Rock 2010) ... it's sooooo good.. so natural.. and she makes it her own.. I can't get enough of it for real!!!🥰 lol The vid quality is not great.. but it's live and soooo good! I do agree with you... I"d rather not go blind for any one.. ever.😅 Times were different back then.. and well.. it is what it is. Etta's delivery of the song though..... pure perfection!!! 😙

Such amazing artists back in the day, such powerful stories. Yes, you listened to Angelina Jordan sing this song, she is introducing the sounds of the 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's to the new generations. I guess encouraging young people, like yourself, to look back at the original artists - there are so many to look into, explore the past and feel the passion...

Miss Etta is a Blues Legend. Personally, I'm a huge fan of the accoustic Delta Blues of Robert Johnson, Son House, Lightning Hopkins, etc, but I won't count out the ladies. As far back as the 1920s and 30s, the ladies usually had some sort of band behind their vocals. Memphis Minnie was one of the very few who accompanied herself on guitar. Sister Rosetta Tharpe came along a little later playing electric guitar. Some said she could play as good as a man. The truth is, she could play better than most of the men. Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday, Ethel Waters, Ella Fitzgerald, Koko Taylor, Nina Simone, and Cassandra Wilson are just a few of the great ladies of the Blues. Janis Joplin could also be easily added to this list. You might enjoy watching Cadillac Records, a movie about Chess Records and some of their artists including:: Muddy Waters, Little Walter, Howlin' Wolf, Chuck Berry, and Miss Etta James as played by Beyonce Knowles.

Etta James had some personal struggles that affected her career over the years but was considered a bridge between the blues and rock and is identified as a major influence by artists from Christina Aguilera to the Rolling Stones to Beth Hart to Amy Winehouse. You need to React to Morgan James! She has many covers (her Aretha Franklin Series is killer) or her first Album ""Morgan James Live, a celebration of Nina Simone". However, her Original Music brings you back to 60s/70s Motown. I'd suggest the song "Ranson" as a start.

As many others will likely say, as amazing as Etta's version is, you have to watch Beth Hart and Joe Bonnassa's version of it, which is 'blow your hair back' type intense. Beth Hart in general is scary good. Check out her live version of Mama, which is just her at a piano and she peels the paint off the rear wall of the venue.
