When I was about 14/15 this album was everything to me. I had just transferred to a new school and I was bullied relentlessly. I was bigger then the other kids, so they would attack me psycologically. I didn't want to join in on the dumb shit they were doing, so I was therefore different and needed to be cast aside. It was the same on the school bus. Kids wouldn't understand why I was so quiet and would call me names and harass me to no end. At this time my father had just been remarried, after being single for about ten years. It was a nightmare. His wifes kids were ferral and outragously behaved. They all moved into our house and the screaming and fighting I remembered from my childhood (when my mum was around) had enterred back into our home. I was seen as the spoiled only child who had everything to himself for too long, but all I wanted was a peaceful home. I was despised by my step siblings as they envied what I had. I was struggling in school. I had already stayed down a grade and was put into every special learning group the teachers could think of. I hated everyone. I hated myself. I just wanted to die. Siamese Dream was a God sent. If how I was feeling could be put into a sound, Siamese Dream is exactly how it would be. I used to blast it on full volume on my ipod on the bus home from school. I started playing guitar and learned every song on the album. It's easy to get lost in how much pain I felt back then, but it was also beautiful. The amount of emotion that used to bleed out when I heard these songs...I'll never forget it.

Looks like we’re around the same age (I see this is a super old comment so I’m a couple of years younger) and I feel very much the same about this song. I heard it first as a 15 year old in the 90’s at the peak of teenaged angst. Now, the nostalgia it drudges up in me EVERY time I hear it brings me to tears. This Album as well as Melancholy and the Infinite Sadness made a serious impression on my young soul. I love watching people experience 90’s music for the first time SO MUCH as it takes me back to where I was my first time💔

Fool enough to almost be it Cool enough to not quite see it Doomed Pick your pockets full of sorrow And run away with me tomorrow June We'll try and ease the pain But somehow we'll feel the same Well, no one knows Where our secrets go I send a heart to all my dearies When your life is so, so dreary Dream I'm rumored to the straight and narrow While the harlots of my perils Scream And I fail But when I can, I will Try to understand That when I can, I will Mother weep the years I'm missing All our time can't be given Back Shut my mouth and strike the demons That cursed you and your reasons Out of hand and out of season Out of love and out of feeling So bad When I can, I will Words defy the plan When I can, I will Fool enough to almost be it And cool enough to not quite see it And old enough to always feel this Always old, I'll always feel this No more promise no more sorrow No longer will I follow Can anybody hear me I just want to be me When I can, I will Try to understand That when I can, I will

I love that weird 'backwards' guitar riff that happens all throughout the song. I don't know what to call it, it sounds off key, like you're catching your breath or something. It just typifies the 90s alt rock vibe for me.

When I was 11 back in 93', my friend brought over a box with a bunch of cassette tapes in it. His older brother fought in Operation Desert Storm and would send him back tapes he wasn't listening to anymore or stuff from other soldiers. Inside this box were about 20 cassettes. Bands included were: Smashing Pumpkins, Weezer, Green Day, Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jane's Addiction, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, etc. Just absolutely a grand treasure of music. The first one we played was Siamese Dream because it looked so weird compared to the other albums, it had two little girls on the case as you can see. When the first song, Cherub Rock, played and kicked off it was truly life changing. This album and all the other great albums we learned of that day have continued to be my favorite of all time, even now at 40. (The) Smashing Pumpkins are still my favorite band and everything Billy released in the 90's was excellent. He's got some cool solo stuff and a side project ZWAN that was good too. The stuff he releases now under the pumpkins name is average to me but some of it is great as well. I look at everything after 2000 as bonus stuff that I'm even lucky enough to hear. Thankfully, he's still alive and doing good. I was worried that like all of my other grunge/alternative heroes he'd pass away. Thanks for doing this video. I'm sure there are a lot of great stories here in these comments. Music is probably the best thing in the world and is a great way for us to come together. -Ron

This is by far my favorite song. I'm now 43 and it still hits me hard as when I first heard it back in 1993. This was my anthem in life when I finally said I'm tired of trying to make other people happy, tired of being compared to other people...I just want to be me. Glad I made that decision and never looked back. I finally saw them live for the first time last month in Anaheim. They didn't play Disarm or Mayonaise, but nevertheless it was a phenomenal show and I can't wait to see them again. Thank you Smashing Pumpkins for helping me survive some of the darkest times of my life.
