This great man has been a big part of my life for more than 25 years. I’m flying all the way from Australia to the US to see him live. This song is truly amazing and full of emotions and surprises too. On one hand, my hero is singing about fragility and running out of time and yet he delivers his most powerful guitar solo in decades.

When the Rick Wright keyboard parts came in I knew right from the beginning I’d be in for an emotional ride. The solo when it merged from acoustic to electric primed me, then at 5:45 when he comes in with that majestic note, not sure what guitar pickups he was using but it sent a bolt of lightning right through my soul. I’m sitting having some eggs and had to stop what I was doing to take some deep breaths thinking, damn, he did it again.
@BarkerScience28 күн бұрын
That’s actually David doing the keyboard parts. David stated that in his interview with Rick Beato. Rick Wright’s work is on the title track “Luck and Strange”.

This monumental solo left me breathless, speechless and with tears in my eyes. And in the context of this song, and this album, it's hard not to this solo as a farewell.... Emotionally that's how I feel about it.

I love this man’s reaction. It was the same for me but I’m much older at 55. The lyrics have special meaning for us older people dealing with the passage of time and mortality. The guitar solo is fabulous as it should be from the master. This man’s playing has moved me since a young boy. This is a fantastic album. Mature, organic and the playing is stellar. Bravo David. Thank You

What a brilliant song! I know it's Gilmour being Gilmour, but there are so many little reminders of previous songs in this one. The heartbeat at the start of Dark Side of the Moon, the synth from Echoes at the start, the short guitar chords like in Shine On, the move from acoustic to electric like High Hopes ... and the transition does sound a little like Gilmour's solo in The Final Cut, and a little trip down the scale at the end of the solo like the solo from Money. I don't know if its deliberate, intentional or coincidental ... but it doesn't matter. It's just a brilliant song from a great album.

68 year old Floyd here,... saw them live twice, one time was "The Wall" February 1980 at the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island. The most phenomenal live performance I've ever seen. Saw lots of Classic Rock bands in my life, no one on Pink Floyds' level, imo. Being an amateur Classic Rock and Blues guitarist, David Gilmour has a very special place in my heart! (I copy him all the time, lol).

I'm right there with you, being a massive fan of Floyd and Gilmour since I really delved into the catalogue when I turned 10 around 1990, amassing a collection of as many bootlegs, rarities, etc as I could, and this song is right up there with the best, regardless of era! I LOVED this!

He’s said in at least one interview (Beato, maybe?) that he’s already planning another album, so 🤘🏻! Also, I always rate his solos on how they hit my gut & ❤. Numb is his most emotional, imo, and this solo, along with his solo in Great Day For Freedom (the love I. Gdansk version) are his three best. They never fail to tighten my throat. 🤘🏻🥹

It's so nice to see the younger generation getting into Pink Floyd, proving what I've always known: Pink Floyd is timeless. When you get a chance, go back to early Floyd and react to David's amazing composition, The Narrow Way (parts 1-3), on their Ummagumma album. The psychedelic sounds of parts 1 and 2 are something to behold, capped by the mesmerizingly beautiful part 3. I really think you'll enjoy this piece.

There’s little older Floyd motifs sprinkled all around this song, I heard the slow bridge section of dogs a little bit right before the acoustic guitar comes in. Those keyboard notes were actually from old Rick Wright recording tapes, reminded me of echoes, I got some On an Island in the solo, then the back half almost sounded like a homage to Sorrow. Idk if he was using his EMG strat or not. Phenomenal song, I can’t get enough of it rn
