This is the album that put DL on the American radar, then Hysteria set them in stone, but many of us were fans even before that.

I was alive and rockin in the early 80's, remember this music well. This song was #1 for many weeks, which back then was a hard thing to do as there was so much good music coming out daily it seemed.

I saw def Leppard this summer, over 40,000 in stadum, they were phenomenal, 40th anniversary of pyromania was featured, along with numerous hits from several albums, they even released a new single " just like '73, the actual single and new video features tom morello from "rage against the machine " i had no idea about the song until i saw them play it, i really enjoyed it, they are very 70's influenced, and there are several musical references in the song such as T-rex, slade, ect, some of they're music idols, please do more def leppard, i think you would love "Let it go" from the album before pyromania, this is one of the very first videos on mtv, they are very young, who knew back then that they would be legends some day, not me, and they have said many times, not even they could have imaged it, they still pinch themselves, great reaction!

DL was well loved in San Diego when they opened for Ozzy during what at the time was the Skyshow. The next day my high school was filled with DL shirts.

Great 👍 song. Produced by Mutt Lange. Written by him, Joe Elliott, Rick Savage, Pete Willis and the late Steve Clark. Willis was fired by his band members due to uncontrolled drunkenness 🥴. He was not in this video. Phil Collen was there when he got hired. Keyboards by Thomas Dolby. In the previous year, he sang Ahe Blinded Me with Science while Mutt Lange sang backing vocals. The 2 met when they were hired by Foreigner in 1981. Mutt Lange was near his 1st peak as producer and writer in 1983. He peaked again in 1991 and in 1998. Rare! 🤯 Suggested videos 📹: 1 Def Leppard performs Animal. 2 Thomas Dolby sings She Blinded Me with Science. 3 Foreigner performs Juke Box Hero. 4 The Corrs perform Irresistible.

I just commented, but forgot to add that yes, the ladies loved them, my friends and i included, they are much much older now obviously, the singer, joe elliott, just turned 65, he said in a interview recently that alot of ladies were wanting to be with the band members back then(they wanted, and were with alot of them in the 80's) he joked that these days if a woman wanted to be with with them, it would be because they wanted him to cut their grass, or wash the car, they may be much older, but any of them are welcome to " cut my grass" anytime! At the various concerts over the years i have been to, there are tons of men singing right along, i know from personal experience in the 80's, every boyfriend i had did like them, they wouldnt admit it, my husband of 35 years admitted to me he was jealous!

Fun fact - the front and center snare drum on this song is very noticeable. Metallica's drummer Lars Ulrich asked to borrow that snare when they recorded "Orion" from Master of Puppets album. Listening to that song you can hear that prominent snapping snare.

Def Leppard's 3rd album 'Pyromania' in 1983 was #2 only to Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' album in sales that year... but in the US only. Def Leppard have never been 'glam rock' but they have cited 70's bands like Mott The Hoople... Sweet ... Queen... Thin Lizzy... as influences. Guitarist Phil Collen of Def Leppard said that he felt that the band was musically closer to pop bands like Duran Duran than heavy metal bands like Iron Maiden... "Photograph" was apparently inspired by a poster of Marilyn Monroe, who was the pinnacle of female desire from her era - there were many rumors about how she died... We know now that she struggled w/ addiction and OD'd. Def Leppard's debut album in 1980 ('On through the night') yielded the faves like - "Hello America" ... 'Wasted' ... 'Rock brigade'... Their 2nd album "High n' dry" in 1981 was produced by Robert John 'Mutt' Lange (who worked w/ AC/DC, Foreigner... later Shania Twain) and the ballad "Bringin' on the heartbreak" was a hit single and the record sold platinum... Other singles were - 'Let it go' ... 'High n' dry (Saturday night)' With Mutt Lange producing, 'Pyromania' in 1983 became a massive hit on MTV and sold 10 million copies in the US w/ the singles - 'Photograph'... "Foolin' " ... 'Rock of ages' ... 'Too late for love'... Sadly, drummer Rick Allen lost his left arm in a car accident after the tour in late 1984... Def Leppard refused to replace him as he recovered and spent months learning to play drums w/ 1 arm & 2 feet on a custom-made electronic drum kit... Def Leppard returned to the stage in 1986 for the first time since the accident. The long-awaited 'Hysteria' album was finally released in 1987 w/ Mutt Lange producing again... They wanted 7 singles from the album and the first 3 did little - 'Women' ... 'Animal'... and 'Hysteria'... the album sold 3 million copies but they needed to sell 5 million copies just to cover the costs of making the record. It did become their first UK #1 album, thankfully. 'Pour some sugar on me' was released as a Summer 1988 single and it exploded in popularity... Def Leppard actually outsold Michael Jackson's 'Bad' album and sold 12 million copies of 'Hysteria' in the US alone... w/ 3 more singles - 'Love bites' ... 'Armageddon it'... and 'Rocket'... Sadly, Def Leppard guitarist Steve Clark was suffering from addictions, alcoholism and manic depression ...Rehab efforts between 1989 and 1990 failed to keep him sober as the next album was delayed again... Finally, the band gave him 6 months 'leave of absence' to take the pressure off and help him recover... Steve Clark passed away in early 1991 a few months later from a mix of alcohol and drugs. Def Leppard completed the 'Adrenalize' album w/ guitarist Phil Collen playing all of Steve Clark's tracks... It charted at #1 and yielded the hits - "Let's get rocked"... 'Tonight' ... 'Heaven is' ... 'Have you ever needed someone so bad'... Vivian Campbell (guitar) joined Def Leppard in 1992. The band released a collection of unreleased Def Leppard songs in 1993 as 'Retro Active'... it produced the singles - 'Two steps behind' ... 'Action' (Sweet cover) and it sold platinum. The 90's grunge rock era affected Def Leppard's popularity and the subsequent 1996 album 'Slang' only sold gold (half million copies) in the US w/ the singles - 'Work it out'... 'Slang' ... 'All I want is everything'... Their 1999 album 'Euphoria' also sold gold w/ the singles - 'Promises' ... 'Paper Sun' ... 'Goodbye'... Def Leppard's 'X' album in 2002 was a pop record and was not as successful w/ the singles - 'Now'... 'Long, long way to go'... A covers album "Yeah!" was released in 2005 w/ covers of David Essex ('Rock on')... Thin Lizzy ("Don't believe a word")... Mott the Hoople ("The golden age of rock n' roll")... etc. and a greatest hits album 'Rock of ages' brought Def Leppard's popularity back up again... Def Leppard have continued to record and tour successfully into 2024... they released the albums - 'Songs from the Sparkle Lounge' (2009) ... 'Def Leppard' (2015) ... and 'Diamond Star Halos' (2022)

Def Leppard had 7 hit singles on the Hysteria album alone. That is 7 out of 11 songs. ( I may be wrong but that is the same amount than MJ's Thriller hits. ) So yeah, Def Leppard has more hit songs worth listening.

Def Leppard were considered Heavy Metal when this album came out. This album, along with Quiet Riot, Twisted Sister and Ratt brought metal to the local music stations and they were in heavy rotation all the time. Youve been listening to Def Leppards pop music which came after this album. Stick with this album and the earlier ones to really see Def Leppard shine!

Actually it was Van Halen,Motley Crue,Quiet Riot mastered the glam metal. They started the 80's LA Glam scene.Def Leppard would be hardcore rock.A lot of followers sorta just copied what Van Halen,Motley Crue,Def Leppard did.Except of Motley Crue, these other bands never wore fem make up,clothes neon color stage outfits

Arena rock yes. glam rock meh - they leaned into that on Hysteria - but this album was all rock. Now if you want some of their real rock hard rocking bangers go older from their High & Dry album: "Let it Go" (which is IMO their badassest sound) "Mirror Mirror" "High&Dry" "Lady Strange" "Bringing on the Heartbreak" (which is kinda anthem sounding). That entire album will keep you driving all night!!!

The problem with Pour Some Sugar on Me, for most Def Leppard fans, is that it got way over played. You just got tired of hearing it. Great song, but you wished some of the other great songs were played a little more.
