Brother don't get discouraged or freaked out by this..this is Slayer at their shock metal peak. They're not devil worshipers or anything of the sort..they deal with controversial subjects that other bands weren't comfortable doing and they killed it! Some of the most technically intense music you will ever hear..keep giving them another shot, you'll come around lol..they're not part of the big 4 for nothing 🤘🤘🤘🤘

Tom Araya was always ridiculously polite at every Slayer show I've ever seen. I saw them in Munich on their farewell tour and he went the distance and made every attempt to speak German. He's a true Mensch. And! One thing that always impressed me was that the fans at the shows were also really nice people - don't be fooled by the lyrics. Somehow they attracted much nicer fans than the mainstream bands did. For example I was NEVER EVER groped or mishandled at a Slayer show - Bon Jovi or any of the other "hair bands"? Nah - those were SA city. ETA: small correction. I was "mishandled" at a Slayer show once. I was standing fairly near the mosh pit and this huge man - I really mean huge - rushed by and as he passed he picked me up and carried me into the pit. Then he commenced swinging me back and forth, using my legs as bats or so to hit the others in the pit. I was completely helpless. Once he had that out of his system, he took me out of the pit, put me down gently and gave me a sweet smile and a little...I dunno, I guess it was a sort of head pat? then he jumped back into the mosh. It's one of my favorite memories ever. At core it was always just good clean fun at their shows.

12:22 Part of what Slayer wanted to do was buck the trends of the 80s glam metal scene, so instead of leotards and makeup that bands like Kiss and Motley Crue were wearing, they wore spikes, and instead of playing predictable song melodies, they played a-harmonious chaotic frenzy. Their solos are all over the place and they love to erupt into crazy fast thrash out of nowhere with a completely different time signature. Certainly not for everyone, but it was one of my favorite bands when I was an angsty teenager :) People often think that people who listen to crazy music like this must be angry and violent, but its the complete opposite. Most metal fans are the nicest people you'd ever meet. The music purges the negative emotions right out of us, like a cleanse. You are left feeling upbeat and vigorous ;)

yes, they were signed to Def Jam the same time they had the Beastie Boys and LL was new to the roster on there. there is a pic somewhere w Beasties, Slayer, and Run DMC in one pic. Public Enemy even sampled from this album (riff from Angel Of Death). AOD came out in 86, and She Watch Channel Zero (PE) came out in 87-88.

Welcome to the Slayer community! Slayer is foundation material for all headbangers. Some of Slayer's songs are more melodic, but Raining Blood is the epitome of the album Reign in Blood, which is peak Slayer. Other Slayer classics worth a listen include South of Heaven, War Ensemble and Seasons in the Abyss. For what it's worth, I do listen to these songs almost everyday.

I love to witness someone experience Slayer for the first time, and that research on the history of the band that you did first was nice too, I didn’t realize they only sold 5 million albums between that time frame, I thought it would have been 10 times more. Once you started grooving to the music, it was like hearing it for the first time with a big smile on my face. AND , The Mosh Pits, Yes! Those were the types of Most Pits where everyone left with at least a bruise, some had to be carried out. But true fans helped keep people safe. Once you start reading the lyrics it becomes a little horror story. Great Video! Subscribed and Liked.

1986! They were WAY ahead of their time. I saw Slayer a bunch of times. You aren't wrong about stamina and endurance. They would often play this third or second to last after an hour and a half of playing with some songs (Dittohead and Hell Awaits for examples) that are even FASTER than this one. Absolutely insane. Hands down the wildest shows I've ever seen.

I grew up in the Detroit area, just outside about 20 miles from where I'd see concerts. I saw Slayer play live many times and I can tell you that those mosh pits were absolutely hardcore back in the day. You had all of the Hardcore Punk's and Metalheads moshing around with different styles of dancing amalgamating into a frenzied composition of madness. Slayer pits were the so rough back then. Especially in Detroit, New York, and Los Angeles. I have seen Slayer in the latter of their career and it didn't even compare. An older crowd, (myself included) didn't hit as hard as they used to. It was all in fun though, and the crowd though very violent still looked out for one another, if someone fell, we picked them up. If someone got injured badly, we helped them. However, I sustained many a lasting injury at those shows and my poor mother hated when I went to see them play because I always came home with black eyes or limping for a few days to a week. One time I suffered a mild concussion! All in good friendly violent fun!

That whole album was pretty much a single performance, you should listen to the tracks in succession. If you like Slayer but want to slow it down a bit, they did a Punk cover album called 'Undisputed Attitude', I think youll find the groove and beats and rythms youre looking for there. Slayer is very multifaceted and have spawned a wide range of style. Also, fun fact, Kerry King was the original guitar player for Megadeth. Their signing with Def Jam was part of an effort to run Metal and Rap music together which ultimately led to collaboration such as Slayer/Beastie Boys, Public Enemy/Anthrax ICE T goes on and on about them and has covered two of there songs with Body Count(one being Rain in Blood). Slayer is part of a much wider music history than their own immediate sphere. If you are someone who likes to study music in general youll find Slayer an interesting topic.

Slayer were not the heaviest of the 'Big 3' of thrash metal in the 80's... but they were definitely the most aggressive. Slayer fans were notorious for destroying venues whenever Slayer came to town... and the carnage at Slayer shows w/ fans busted up and requiring a trauma unit tending them was real... Dave Lombardo (drums) said that Slayer's fast tempos were inspired by early 80's Southern Cali punk rock bands like T.S.O.L... D.R.I.... Black Flag... Circle Jerks... Dead Kennedys... etc. which Jeff Hanneman (guitar) was a fan of... He brought those punk rock tapes to rehearsals and Lombardo would try mimic those fast-paced drums and surpassed them eventually. Formed in 1981 by Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman (guitars) while they were still teenagers, another neighborhood kid Dave Lombardo (drums) joined and Tom Araya (vocals & bass) completed the line-up... They were huge fans of Judas Priest and Iron Maiden and covered their songs... Eventually, they were introduced to newer, faster metal bands like Venom... Anvil ... Motorhead ... as well as hardcore punk rock... In 1982, the members of Slayer saw Metallica play at a club in L.A. and were impressed... they tried to emulate what Metallica was doing and they wrote their first song Aggressive perfector' in 1983 which appeared as a demo on Metal Blade Records' "Metal Massacre III" release that year... In 1984, Kerry King played guitar on Megadeth's first few shows as a band. Being broke, Slayer struggled to save $$$ to record their debut album 'Show no mercy' in '83 w/ themes of horror and satanism for shock value... Slayer wore menacing, black makeup trying to emulate Venom in their early days... but after they met the band Exodus in San Francisco in 1984, they were told that they would be better without the makeup and theatrics... So, they got rid of the makeup. Metal Blade was still an indie label and despite lacking funds, Slayer recorded the live EP 'Live undead' in 1984 w/ another EP 'Haunting the chapel' ... Slayer's 2nd full album 'Hell awaits' was released in 1985, before famed producer Rick Rubin offered to sign Slayer in '86 to his Def Jam label (later renamed American Recordings) While recording their 3rd album 'Reign in blood' in 1986, Rick Rubin decided to have King and Hanneman play their guitars without reverb... and they sounded better as a result... Dave Lombardo set a new standard of drumming excellence w/ his frantic playing and the album became a classic... However, Rubin had to distribute 'Reign in blood' through alternate record manufacturers because they were offended by the controversial lyrics on the record, like the song 'Angel of death'... about the nazi Doctor Mengele and his human experiments. 'Reign in blood' eventually went gold in the US (half million copies) and is hailed as an extreme metal masterpiece at only 30 minutes in length. Slayer went for a slower tempo album 'South of Heaven' in 1988... fans complained initially but the record actually outsold 'Reign in blood'... The band peaked in popularity and record sales w/ their 1990 album 'Season in the Abyss'... another gold success. Slayer did the 'Clash of the Titans' tour in '91 w/ Megadeth and Anthrax (and Alice in Chains opening) and released a double live album that year - 'Decade of aggression - live'... However, tensions within Slayer led to drummer Dave Lombardo being fired in 1992. In 1994, Slayer returned w/ 'Divine intervention' and it sold gold... However, Rick Rubin had moved on and was working w/ AC/DC and the Red Hot Chili Peppers at the time, so Slayer were left out and they felt the album suffered as a result w/ Paul Bostaph (drums) replacing Lombardo... A subsequent punk rock covers album 'Undisputed attitude' in 1996 and their next album 'Diabolus in musica' in 1998 did not sell up to expectations. In 2001, Slayer released the album 'God hates us all' ... and drummer Paul Bostaph left the band soon after. Slayer decided to reunite w/ Dave Lombardo (drums) in '02 for the touring and released 2 more albums as their popularity grew again - 'Christ illusion' (2006) and 'World painted blood' (2009)... However, a dispute over finances led to Dave Lombardo leaving the band again by 2012. In 2011, guitarist Jeff Hanneman was infected w/ a flesh-eating bacteria and it left him unable to play guitar actively... he was replaced on tour by Exodus guitarist Gary Holt... Tragically, Jeff Hanneman had a drinking problem and passed away in 2013 at age 50. Paul Bostaph (drums) rejoined Slayer in 2013 and they released their final album 'Repentless' in 2015. Tom Araya (vocals & bass) decided that he wanted to retire and as a result, Slayer embarked on their farewell tour until 2019. Slayer announced 3 shows for the year 2024 but insist that no new album or tour is in the works... In 2024, Kerry King announced his first solo album 'From Hell I rise' featuring Paul Bostaph on drums, Mark Osegueda (from Death Angel) on vocals, Phil Demmel (from Machine Head) on guitar, and Kyle Sanders (from Hellyeah!) on bass.

The thing to remember is that this is only a song, nothing more, nothing less. I've always viewed songs like this as a bit like a horror film but in musical form. It's all just another form of art, meant to provoke some kind of thought or feelings. Unfortunately some people in the 80's seemed to think the band were a bad influence.

Could you please react to the band Death? Death is a band that helped birth and shape a new metal genre (death metal) after thrash metal (Metallica, Megadeth). The band leader was a great musician and composer, I think you might find them interesting and different. Would be cool to see some old school death metal on this channel 🤘 You can search on youtube any of these songs "death left to die" "death pull the plug" "death spiritual healing"

Think of an early Slayer song (very basically) as a series of blast beats connected by bass and guitar that play to the blast beats and angry shouted/screamed lyrics (usually because the singer does not align with the lyrical content). An early Slayer song is between 30s and 4 minutes long. Yes. That was all of RainingvBlood...

As an old slayer original, i gotta say, we dont, and never did, really give a fuck about the lyrics or what the band ever said.

I grew up on Slayer in the 80s. It's just pure aggression. If you're not exhausted after a good listen to Slayer, you're not doing it right.

@MMBxMOB This album came out in 86, probably older than you, just imagine this name coming out in that time, it was good back then, maybe not for you now, you have to think about all the "variables". I also see you have trouble headbanging properly, you will learn in due time 😁.

I wz 18 wen reign came out.we waiting for it wth bated breath in California & it didn't disappoint. by the way dude, this is 2024& slayer sounds like classical music compared to some of the slam grind brutal death out today

DEAD SKIN MASK next please it's a song about Ed Gaine that killed many people and made lamp shades with human skin. Earlobes for rings of window shades. The movie Texas Chainsaw Massacre was also based by Ed Gaines story. DEAD SKIN MASK by Slayer should be next. Silent Scream after that.
