It makes me so happy that thrash and death metal are getting more and more credit for how technical it is and often how much depth the lyrics actually have. "Proclaim my death, to end my wrath, it takes more than one try. Indulge your ineffective curse, I will never die." Slayer is Reborn

That was me that said Slayer was Controlled Chaos, and I'm glad you feel the same way. :) Imagine hearing this for the first time when you are a young teenager still trying to figure out life. This band was my introduction to the speed metal side of Thrash. Watching your facial expressions through the song was fuckin' awesome. You have that metal stink face down so well. Isn't it weird how you don't have to be taught or to see anyone else do the metal stink face, it just happens naturally.

I used to see Slayer in small clubs in the '80s. In fact, I saw the 'Reign in Blood' tour. They were younger, faster and so aggressive. I had so much fun watching the Blood fly in the pit.
@stueyboy25 ай бұрын
I saw them on the Reign in Blood tour in the 80’s. Was deaf for a week after it. The main thing I remember was there was a blind guy in the mosh pit and he kept swinging his white stick about and hitting the rest of the crowd. Security asked him a few times to stop but he just kept on. Last thing I saw as they bundled him out the fire exit at the side of the stage was them kicking the shit out of him. Epic gig…

I saw slayer live once back in maybe 1989?! It was a small place. The stage was only like eye level high and not big at all- back in the day metal didn’t get big venues. I’m 55 now and can’t even imagine how I’d survive a show now! I remember jumping in the mosh pit which would be an insane thing for me to do now. It was a great show!

In order to make that sustained ringing sound out of the guitars, they turn their backs towards the speakers in order to get acoustic "feedback" (which re-enters the sound system and is amplified in a continuous feedback-loop to create that rumbling sound).

The first time I saw Slayer, I got extremely drunk, spent the first 6 songs on the barrier before passing out and after a short stop in the medical room, made my way back to the pit where I got a fat black eye and had a great time. 10/10.

It's sad to realize that guitarist Jeff Hanneman passed away @agee 50, only 3 years after this 2010 clip was filmed (R.I.P.) The "Big 4" of thrash metal - Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and Anthrax... all played the frantic thrash metal sound... but each band sounded so different on a record and live in concert... Slayer was definitely the most incendiary live band of the 4; their fans would demolish anything in their path on the floor... A friend of mine years ago really liked a guy but couldn't quite get into his head as he was a metal head, and she was a goth. I came up with the Slayer test. I gave her one of the discs of the 2 disc live album they put out and told her to listen to it nonstop for 24 hours, even when she was asleep. When the 24 hours were up, I went to see her at work. This was the conversation, closest as I can remember to verbatim: "Okay, did you listen to it nonstop?" "Yes." "Alright, how do you feel?" "I want to 💀 something." "Now, this is the important part. Is that a good feeling or a bad feeling?" "A bad feeling." "Give up on trying, it's never gonna work." She kept trying for a bit, but they were never really able to connect.

Been a while. Hope youre ok brother. Well, here i am sat in my Reign in Blood Tshirt enjoying this fine performance - and you're cool as ever reaction. Slayer, quite simply, thrashed hard. Probably only one album that was a diversion, but they stuck to their thrash roots for the most part. Even their final studio album was fire. I mean, the energy needed for this is emense. I remember listening to Slayer Live at Donnington on the radio decades ago and just before the set started the radio host said: "To play like this you need to be as fit as an athlete and as precise as a fighter pilot". Never a truer word said. Thrash is hard to play, especially live. Yes, the breakdown section is on the album version and yes, more Slayer live. Anything from the early days would be awersome. Take it easy. Cheers. 🤘🏻
