The HIP is Canada. A cultural celebration and education like no other. To love this band is to love your country fully and completely. One of the greatest Rock N Roll bands to ever walk this planet. RIP Gord. We miss you!

Well let's just put it this way, the Tragically Hip are the chroniclers of our country just like Springsteen/Dylan/Cash, etc. The story of the tragically hip is absolutely amazing, everybody being high school buddies, making music for 19 records over 40 years

Wow, thank you very very much !! I always wondered about the checkerboard floors !. They don't show that during stomping Tom's footage of being at the Horseshoe. Is the Horseshoe still there ?. Damn I hope it is

Fun fact. The word 'Bobcaygeon' was chosen because Gord was looking for one that rhymed with 'constellations'.

Many of The Hip's songs are about real events in recent Canadian history. "38 Years Old" is about the Millhaven Penitentiary prison break in 1972. It's about a guy who went tp prison so young he hadn't had his first kiss yet. He was in The Joint for killing the the man who raped his sister. "Wheat Kings" is about the wrongfully-imprisoned David Milgaard. Heart-rending.

If you want another band to listen to from Kingston try The Headstones. The guy who disrupts the concert in the video is Hugh Dillion, the lead singer, doing some "acting" for The Hip.

Wow, that I did not know !!. I do know that I was born in the same hospital as half the hip and I was born in Kingston. ( also Bryan Adams but I don't say that very often ) . Hugh Dillon is my cousin. I have become a stage in Calgary and they were doing a show but I didn't want to come across as a distant cousin he hasn't seen since Mary- Ann's wedding

This is a song about a cop from Toronto that falls in love with a girl from the country according to Gord.

Later Gord would say it was about two gay Cops who fell in love. It was apparently based on the true life of an extended family member. The story I heard was, in order to keep their jobs, they had to hide their relationship by meeting at a cottage between their posts. A lot was at stake including their pensions if they were found out back in the early 80's. Apparently this video was originally shot with Gord meeting one of the other band members on the porch for an embrace. The record execs refused to release the video and thus the single with any ambiguity around the very strait band member's sexuality. You can see how the final porch seen has been re-shot on a warmer day with most of the snow in the background now melted. It's suggested the frustration referenced in the song was around the reletive having to "police" homophobic laws. Just something I heard from a Good source.

@@RockinMamaT hi Katz’s mom, I’ve just really been enjoying his LZ reactions, I through the years have introduced my 3 sons to LZ too. My future daughter in law is a huge LZ fan too. I was just wondering if reactors were having issues with Led Zeppelin videos, several that were doing them just stopped. I look forward to his next ones, thank you for letting me know.
