Bryan's mind was in the gutter when he wrote the song. He was too young in 1969. He has said in many interviews the song was about having a great time in the backseat of a car at that drive-in

To me, as an American growing up in the 80's, Bryan Adams was the Canadian version of Bruce Springsteen. Both great artists! Remember dancing to many Bryan Adams songs at high school dances.

Yep. You nailed the vibe. I am a retired single guy in USA, and this song is particularly poignant for me, now that more of my life is behind me than before me. I was 10 yrs old in 69, and it was, indeed, the best year of my life.

Bryan Adams - what an absolute rock star! He's one of the best-selling artists of all time. So many massive hits, full on rock songs, and emotional rock ballads. This song came out as I was growing up - it evokes all those happy thoughts about a more carefree time.

GA Bryan Adams wasn't around in 1969, the song has nothing to do with the year, think 69 in a sexual context, and then you've nailed it!🤣😂😅🙃

This video is part of a trilogy with the songs "Run To You" and "Heaven" which are huge Bryan Adams hits. Also, "Everything I Do (I Do It For You)" was the 2nd biggest song in history at that time.

A trilogy? That's cool. I'm not sure what order this "trilogy" is suppoed be in, but as I always rearrange tracks on albums for a better transition of subject and musical arrangement, I settled on the following sequence : Kids Wanna Rock Summer Of `69 Somebody Heaven Run To You One Night Love Affair I didn't care for the other tracks (from the Reckless album), hence why I've not listed them here. 😛

Oh God, not another "trilogy". Those things are showing up everywhere, about everything. And now this one suddenly pops up, going on 40 years later. What ties those three songs together? I was following Bryan Adams back then, and this "trilogy" business is news to me. Were his next three hits considered a second trilogy, and his next three another .......?

That little confession at the beginning was already so cute and funny to gave the thumbs up, but then you hit the nail on the head with its meaning. I think most people have "that" special summer, maybe with a special love interest, or friends from school to which this song throws them back to. It's the same feeling this song gives people for decades all around the world, and makes it one the most beautiful and influential songs of all time.

I heard that song for the first time when I was 15 or 16 years old. And it evoked in me the same feeling of longing for the good times. I had finished my 11 years of studies. I understood that new stages were coming with more responsibilities. When I heard that song and the story that the video told... it reminded me of the times that were gone not long ago. A look back at the best things that happened to me in my life and how I enjoyed it. I was born in 1970 . I have enjoyed good music. It is gratifying to me that some young people today look back on those years through music and have the same reactions or evoke the same feelings 🥲. I have a little 7-year-old daughter and she accompanies me to watch KZbin and I play the music that I like from the 70s, 80s, generally. She likes it and asks me to listen to it again on occasion. It's my way of keeping the 80s alive...😅

I grew up with this song on the radio but I never really gave it much attention. As teenagers the drummers mother drove us to all our gigs and this song just happened to be playing on radio while pulling up to our first paying gig. We thought we were so cool. Now every time that I hear it (almost 30 years later) my heart starts beating like I have pre show jitters and stage fright all over again. Ah the good ol days. 😎

Bryan Adams had a good number of songs and he was always on the radio, a very talented singer. The feeling I get when I hear Bryan Adams now is the same feeling I got when he came out on the radio when I was a teen, I had to stop everything else I was doing and listen to his song because his songs were fun and memorable. How the song made you feel when you heard it, that's probably how I felt as a teen every time I heard one of his songs on the radio.

The throwback IS real for sure. I remember when this album(Reckless) came out back in 1984. I was 13 years old. LOTS of hits on this album. "Somebody", "Run To You", "It's Only Love(with Tina Turner)" and of course "Summer Of '69" and others. This song ALWAYS hits the nostalgia button. I just saw Bryan Adams, here in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada back on October 7th 2022. When he played "Summer Of '69", crowd went NUTS and were singing at the top of their lungs. As was I. What a GREAT nostalgic night. The wife and I LOVED IT! Then on October 15th 2022, we went to see Iron Maiden. LOVED that as well! 🤘 So, hope I helped answering your question(s). And yes, this song(well MANY of his songs) got TONS of radio play. And we didn't mind at all. 😃

Bryan Adams is amazing! I grew up listening to him. It all makes me misty these days because of where the world is now. Not that we didn't have issues back then. But you should check out more of his music. Cuts like a knife is an awesome album. Also one of my favorite albums from him was "Into the Fire". Now at the time it came out music was really switching to hairbands so I don't feel like it got promoted well. But that is an album that once I start it, it is going to play all the way thru.

So, yes! There's more to it. To be honest, I was just a kid when these came out, and I wasn't really aware of Bryan Adams until I was older, so I just learned about this from another reactor in the past year, and actually had to try and look it up to get you some more details. I guess the deal is that when this album, "Reckless", was first released, they also released a VHS video with it that had a handful of music videos on it, and 3 or 4, maybe 5, of the videos are interrelated with the same actress playing what I'm guessing is a fictional ex girlfriend that the songs are supposed to be about? But I think a couple of the songs came out with new videos when they were later released as singles, or videos for the international market? But "Run To You" I know she's in, and I think also "Heaven" and "Somebody". Update: So, I looked it up. This video for "Somebody" seems to pick up where "Summer of '69" ends kzbin.info/www/bejne/ooHCkIqfi85pnNk Then I guess this video of "Heaven" follows kzbin.info/www/bejne/qWe3paqIZ6mVoMk And then she shows up in "Run to You", but there doesn't seem to as much of a story implied, but it's a good song. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pHSlcoaqapVqjaM

I remember when it came out, but I wasn't really old enough to really appreciate the nostalgic vibe it gives off like I do now. I think most people long for the days before taxes and rent when the most stress you had was something stupid from school. It's one of those songs that I want to listen to while driving with the windows down on a warm spring day with a cool breeze. For whatever reason, Interstate Love Song by Stone Temple Pilots makes me feel like this as well.

The song reminds me of high school. They played Bryan Adam's song Heaven at my prom.

A great song to check out is “All For Love” with Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart & Sting. They all have similar voice and sound great.

He had a good song "Everything I Do" that was the theme song for the movie Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.

You COULD say that when he sang "Me n my baby in a" is referring to a 1969 Chevrolette, an iconic car model.

Three cheers for your "Millennial Dirty Mind"---I saw the title for the first time, and I thought the same thing (and I'm a boomer)😛😏

Nostalgic and happy. It'd a feelgood to me and You a totally different part of world and much younger. So to see you feel same emotion and appreciate a song that's almost 40 years old. 84 is year it was released.

Yes, I was a senior in high school when this song came out. However, I don't think I ever saw the video. It was all over the radio back in the 80s, and it made all the girls feel the same way back then as it did you just now. Yes, it did it's job. 😉 Just like Sinatra in the 50s, and Mathis in the 60s.
