Terry was the heart and soul of Chicago. They were never the same after his untimely passing in 1978.

Early Chicago had 3 singers, bassist Peter Cetera was the main vocalist. Terry Kath the band guitarist was another, and the keyboard player Robert Lamm was the 3rd.

At that time, Chicago had three lead singers. Terry Kath, guitarist extraordinaire, sang lead on this one. Keyboardist Robert Lamm sang on the hit song "Saturday in The Park." Bassist Peter Cetera sang lead on " 25 Or 6 to 4."

Their song "Wishing You Were Here" was sung by Terry Kath, but they also had the Beach Boys doing back-up vocals, as well as the rest of Chicago. It's, in my opinion, a gorgeous song with some of the best harmonies ever.

This was a part of Girl from Buchanon on that album. About 17 minutes long. The record company spliced together the beginning & end to come up with this. They were pissed when they heard it. Long live Terry Kath!

3 lead singers for Chicago. Terry here, plus Pete Cetera & Robert Lamm. You've probably heard mostly Pete before. Terry is the soulful one. Just a great singer and guitarist. If you want some Chicago funk, Dialogue Parts 1 & 2, doesn't get enough attention. Lead off song from 1st album "Introduction" is a groove. An under reacted to Chicago ballad is "I've been Searching So Long", which soars at the end. More good rockers from 1st album also include I'm a Man, Poem 58 and South California Purples.

Chris, I love "What's This World Coming To?", on which the vocal duties rotate among all three of the aforementioned guys! There's a video out there isolating Terry's rhythm guitar part on that song. It's mind-boggling what he was doing, and a shame that it got buried in the final mix.

Terry Kath was singing the lead. Terry's voice may sound similar to Ray Charles, because Ray Charles was one of his favorites. Terry was also the lead guitarist. He definitely had a voice as well!

This is the real Chicago sound. Horns up front, not buried in the mix. No computers in the mix and excessive reverb like in the 1980's . This music was known as jazz/rock at the time, NOT jazz/fusion

This is the real deal CHICAGO or known on their first album CTA. Their early albums were more bluesy, jazzy rock with incredible original musicians.Try reacting to Beginnings or I’m The Man, a cover of a Steve Winwood led song from his first band.

You need to hear a Tribute band from Russia & Ukraine called 'Leonid & Friends'. They are so perfect, both vocally and instrumentally, that you will think it's actually the group Chicago. They've done this song and many other Chicago songs, as well as groups like 'Earth, Wind & Fire' and 'The Ides Of March'.
@sheayankee Жыл бұрын
Agree, absolutely! 'Leonid and Friends' are amazing. They are a fantastic cover band for Chicago and EWF. They have even done Carpenters and Chaka Khan. You must check them out
@ridgemanron Жыл бұрын
I have checked out all their renditions on KZbin, and you're right. They are move than a cover band, and because they are so fantastic, the name 'Tribute Band' fits them better. Read that the lead singer of 'Ides Of March' heard their rendition of 'Vehicle' and he thought it was he and his group performing.

Tasha, you look even cuter than usual today. As far as Chicago goes, my favorite would be "Beginnings" but, if I remember correctly, you were a flute player or like the flute or something. If that is the case, you should check out "Color My World" which was a staple at weddings during the 70s. It's a different flavor of Chicago but it ends in a nice flute solo.

Hi Tasha, you should check out a couple videos of the band Leonid & Friends performing covers of Chicago songs...they are incredible. The band was started by a music producer/musician based in Moscow and it includes musicians/vocalists mainly from from Russia, but also from Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine (their lead singer from Ukraine had to go back to Kyiv to take care of his family after psychopath Putin's invasion). I've seen them a couple time live during their American tours and they are just as good live as on their recordings. BTW, Chicago's guitarist/vocalist, Terry Kath, one of the most underrated guitarists in the history of rock.

You have to think of 70s Chicago, & 80s Chicago. As two different bands. With Terry Kath, & without, him / after his death. With Terry, aka the 70s. They were extraordinary. In the 80s / pop ballads era. They were good. Had big hits. But. In terms of the music. It was nothing special.

I have enjoyed all the eras. I like when bands can change and still be enjoyable to me.
