This album is a masterpiece cornerstone, right in the middle of the magic maiden legendary streak. It is predated by 3 masterpieces...and followed by 3 masterpieces. Maiden is for me the only band besides Sabbath to have released 7 fantastic albums in a raw. Special kudos for Revelations, Sun & Steel, and To tame a land...absolute epic.

@DownMemoryLaneParis Жыл бұрын
@@JamesEvans-uh7nu uhm.... Not really. I mean technically no prayer is the worst album for me, followed by virtual and fear of the dark. But I liked x factor a lot. Brave new world is pretty good, and dance of death has great tracks... After that, it just got better and better for me. A matter of life and death and book of soul are on par with old days imo Final frontier is strong release but the single was a but too simple. Senjutsu is brillant and keep getting better every listening.

You hit it on the head. After all the backwards recording hype and controversy from other bands, they put this on there and I think it says “you shouldn’t mess with things you don’t understand “. And I think it was purposely obvious. Shows their great sense of humor.

Hey T! Great reaction man, as usual. This one brought back some very fond memories from my early teenage years, as I was 12 years old and had just recently picked up the bass guitar and started learning to play a bit during that time. My best friend to this day still talks about he and I being in my bedroom and he got such a kick out of sitting there watching me play along with the entire album from top to bottom. I haven't tried that in many, many years since and doubt I could still pull it off (I don't play much these days, although I know I should...) anyway, "Piece of Mind" remains my favorite Maiden album and I would love to see you do the full album reaction/review! Peace and Love to you All.

This is probably THE most frequently asked question. IRON MAIDEN was getting really fed up with the American bigots who'd condemned them devil worshippers and such, so they decided to stick this sucker on the new album (PIECE OF MIND). Right at the beginning of the song Still Life is two quick backwards messages, one after the other. Both are spoken by Nicko in a deep Rasta accent, not too much even understandable even when played backwards. Well, the first says "What ho sed de t'ing wid de t'ree bonce", which means "What ho said the monster with the three heads." The second says "Don't meddle wid t'ings you don't understand." And of course, the message ends with a belch! :) The Iron Maiden biography (see item 34, BOOKS related to Iron Maiden) says that the phrases are taken from Idi Amin's books. To the best of my knowledge Idi Amin has never written any books (I checked the Encyclopaedia Britannica). Some fellow netters sent me the following explanation: According to them both phrases come from a spoof '70s radio show about Idi Amin. In the show an english actor, John Bird, impersonates Idi Amin (complete with Ugandan accent) explaining how the disappearing Ugandan ministers are being sent to Pluto to sort out the economy there. The material is written by one-time editor of Punch and humourist Alan Coren. An LP containing the broadcasts exists: It's titled "The Collected Broadcasts of Idi Amin" (1975).

I was 10 when this came out and remember my older bro and his friend playing it for the first time. Saw them live 2 years later on Powerslave tour. The beginning is Nicko talking in a deep Rasta accent "What ho sed de t'ing wid de t'ree bonce", which means "What ho said the monster with the three heads." The second says "Don't meddle wid t'ings you don't understand." Ending with a belch and played backwards. Funny that they had Nicko do this because he wasn't even in the band for that album🤣

@BlackieNuff9 ай бұрын
At the beginning of the sixth track, "Still Life (Nightmares)", the band included a hidden message which could only be understood by playing the song backwards. This was a joke and an intended swing back at the critics who had accused Iron Maiden of being Satanic on their previous album, The Number Of The Beast. The backwards-message consists of drummer Nicko McBrain mimicking actor John Bird's impression of Idi Amin, uttering the following phrase : "What ho said the t'ing with the three 'bonce', don't meddle with things you don't understand...", followed by a belch. The phrase itself is taken from the satirical album The Collected Broadcasts of Idi Amin (1975) by Bird and Alan Coren. "What ho" and "What ho said the t'ing" are phrases that also crop up regularly on McBrain's "Listen With Nicko!" tracks from The First Ten Years singles box set collection. According to McBrain, "We were sick and tired of being labelled as Devil worshippers and all this bollocks by these f*cking morons in the States, so we thought, 'Right, you want to take the piss? We'll show you how to take the bleeding piss, my son!' And one of the boys taped me in the middle of this Idi Amin routine I used to do when I'd had a few drinks. I remember it distinctly ended with the words, 'Don't meddle wid t'ings yo don't understand.' We thought, if people were going to be stupid about this sort of thing, we might as well give them something to be really stupid about, you know?" Also, T, if you wanna hear the forward version of the message, I have software that allowed me to backmask (reverse) tracks and save them, which means un-reversing these backwards tracks (I did it for the backmasked intro to Venom's In League With Satan, and the backmasked intro to Def Leppard's Rocket, the latter of which says "Oh, we are fighting with the Gods of War"). I have Nicko's message in the forward version. I can email it to you since it's so short, if you want.

I was like 12 in 1987 when I played this when my very religious grandmother was babysitting, and the backwards bit at the beginning freaked her out because she'd watched televangelists rant and rave about how heavy metal was the devil's music. So I did what any good grandson should do, and took the tape out... and put in Number of the Beast.

I wouldn't say every 80's song was great, but most of them were. I mean, this album alone has 'Quest for Fire' and 'Sun And Steel' which are two of their weaker songs. I do agree about the early 2000's stuff though. BNW and DOD blow away anything they did in the 90's
