5 of my favorite things in this movie: 1. The briefcase suit on the racetrack 2. Need I say more than Natasha Romanoff? 3. The new, triangular Arc reactor 4. Don Cheadle's sass as Rhodey/War Machine 5. All the jokes about Justin Hammer's engineering prowess...or lack, thereof

Difference is there's actually a good amount of time in The Avengers dedicated to getting civilians away from the action, Captain America leads that effort. That's not really a thing in Man of Steel.

The whole soundtrack was AC/DC. AC/DC has never released an officially curated greatest hits album, so the Iron Man 2 album was an AC/DC album in everything but name. Since I know you guys are into learning about the character history, here's some: Mickey Roarke's character Anton Vanko was a combination of two classic Iron Man villains from the comics: Whiplash and the Crimson Dynamo. Here's the first appearances of the characters in this film: Tony Stark/Iron Man: Tales of Suspense 39, 1963 Nick Fury: Sgt. Fury 1, 1963 Pepper Potts and Happy Hogan: Tales of Suspense 45, 1963 Anton Vanko: Tales of Suspense 46, 1963 Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow: Tales of Suspense 52, 1964 James Rhodes: Iron Man 118, 1978; wearing the War Machine armor, Iron Man 284, 1992; using the name War Machine, Avengers West Coast 94, 1993 Justin Hammer: Iron Man 120, 1978 Fun fact about Fury: In the comics he is modeled on John Wayne (looks and speech pattern). A later alt universe re-imagining of him modeled him on Sam Jackson. When those comics became a success they cast the real Sam Jackson for the MCU films. When the films became successful, the regular-continuity comics then introduced Fury's son, Nick Fury Jr., based on Jackson again. In later comics, Nick Fury Sr. (the one based on John Wayne) has a shaved head so he too looks similar to the Sam Jackson look.

the suit is NOT made from iron or steel, it is made from a titanium alloy, steel or iron would be far too heavy to fly, and not strong enough to be effective armor. OK, the reason it is called a mini-gun, is because it is a perfectly scaled down version of the M61A1 Vulcan rotary cannon, which is the same INTERNAL gun used in the F-14 Tomcat, F-15 Eagle, F-16 Falcon, F/A-18 Hornet, and F-22 Raptor, where the M61A1 used in fighter planes, and in every CIWS mounts on every Navy ship, is chambered for and fires the 20mm cannon round at 6,000 rounds per minute, the M-134 mini-gun is chambered for and fires the 5.56mm NATO round at the same 6,000 rounds per minute, the 5.56 is the very same 5.56 that is also used in the M-16 rifle, but the mini gun is small enough and has such low recoil as compared to the M61A1, that it can be mounted in helicopters, in pickup truck beds or carried and fired by a single man, this is WHY it is called the mini-gun, it's actual name is the M-134 AERO. BOTH of them were created by General Electric, the M61A1 in the early to mid 1960's, and the M-134 in the late to early 1980's.

Vanko's comics character is "Whiplash", for obvious reasons. I don't think they call him that in this film, but if you are doing research in your Marvel Encyclopedia he's probably listed under that. Note that while many of the Marvel films are derived from comics storylines, they usually make changes in turning them into films. There are multiple reasons like length, filmability, links to other MCU films, available actors, etc. Col. Rhodes was recast because the original actor wasn't available for this film. Once the MCU became a success, they started signing actors to three film contracts to make sure they were available. The actors for Justin Hammer and Christine Everhart (the reporter) are married in real life. Besides having a cameo, Musk's SpaceX rocket factory was used for the scene where Vanko first sees the Hammer suits.

The Roswell incident was a crash of a balloon with a microphone and a special aloy chassis. The chassis made it so the density of air molecules would let it float at 100.000 feet. At that altitude, any loud soundwaves emitted on the other side of the planet will bounce around and ripple in that special zone. Take 3 of these microphones up there, at different place. You can then pinpoint exactly where any nuclear testing is done on the planet. In this case the US was trying to figure out where the Soviets were doing their testing during the cold war. This explains why the government would be on board with associating Aliens with Area 51. Area 51 is likely a cold war counter intelligence agency. The device that crashed into the Roswell field was small, which explains why only that, one farmer discovered it, before the government came and took it back. If it was a spaceship, the whole town would have come to check it out. It was a fairly populated area for a farming town. But that's not what happened. The farmer claimed that, it was not from around here because the material it was made of was so strange.

That was not Rhodes first time in the silver suit... he did have the code to the lab (maybe to test it as he had free time). Tony and him have probably been out in the suits several times together as well. Not everything in the MCU is spelled out in detail, you have to infer a bit for some of this stuff. Does it make sense that Rhodes would be able to use the suit at all without prior experience? Not really... I think they probably are intuitive... but not flight intuitive. Are Tony and Rhodes the exact same height / body build (no). So that silver suit has probably also been modified to either adjust to each user (maybe Tony set this up before... or maybe he adjusted specifically for Rhodes. Future movies may imply that some suits are adjustable on the fly for user shape/size).

2:54:20 so im 17 years old and as of today i am still afraid of death. Mostly because i know deep down i dont have full faith in God and the afterlife, which makes me scared of an eternity of being buried in my grave. Its not the idea that everyone dies that scares me in particular, its the idea that when I die i could be underground forever. And life will go on without me forever. And its difficult to understand eternity and its also difficult to understand the end of the world so both scenarios scare me to be honest. Deep end by the way Im loving these reactions, the mcu gets a bit more deep in terms of the US government and the metaphors to the people of power so i look forward to your interpretations of those movies
