Younger people don’t know about this stuff but back in the 1980’s soooo many people lost their farms and their homes. This is when Farm Aid was started. You were right Tasha!!!

This song was written about the Farm Crisis ladting from the late 70's through the 80's. Many of my fellow Iowa farm families and Midwesterners lost everything that generations of their kin had worked for over the years. Most of these rural towns have never recovered! To this day, the University of Iowa football team still wears a yellow round decal on their hemets with the letters "ANF" - America Needs Farmers. Just like back then, America still does need its farmers, too!!

You're absolutely right. It's nothing new, even when this was released in 85 it was nothing new. Anyone saying it is, is either lying or ignorant.

This was during the farm crisis of the 1980s, when a lot of family farms were foreclosed on. In 1985 in my hometown in eastern Iowa, a farmer whose farm was foreclosed on shot and killed his wife and his neighbor, then came into town and shot and killed the bank president, and then himself. There were white crosses for them in the town churchyard for years and years. There were a lot of problems with the economy back then, but the farm crisis was a very specific moment and marked the shift from family farms to corporate agriculture. The shooting in my town was national news for several days.

💯 Tasha! I'm old enough to have seen the peak of the middle class, and unfortunately, it's rapid decline. First went the mines, then manufacturing, and the family owned farms. Mom and pop stores were replaced with Wal-Mart and family owned restaurants with fast food chains. Now, AI is here to finish us off. The U.S. has stopped being a Govt. Of, by, and for the people. It is now of, by, and for corporations.

This came out when I was stationed in Germany. My best friend's family in Texas lost their 1,000 acre farm about that time. Not just corporations. China has been buying up a lot of our farmland for years

Just do a tiny bit of research instead of listening to ridiculous right-leaning politicians and media. Lots of foreign countries own farmland in the US, but China accounts for about 1% of that. You know who owns the most? It's the evil, totalitarian regime to the north... Canada!

Corporations are buying up the land and I can't help but think this was the plan all along. It took COVID to see food prices go up in stores, something I wouldn't complain about if I thought for a minute that the increase was going to the farmers, but I doubt very much if it is. There are less employees in the grocery stores, less checkouts open, but I suspect the corporations who own them aren't suffering one bit. God Bless the farmers, all of them.

There were orange trees everywhere where I grew up and now you can't find hardly any!!! Cattleman and farmers were everywhere now they're nowhere to be Found!!! We're all paying the price for it with our food coming from other countries!!! The government turned her head on this problem!!! She's turning her head on the housing market as well

Don’t worry about telling the truth. People need to wake up and realize politicians, as a general rule, don’t care about us beyond our ability to vote for them. It doesn’t matter what party either. This country has some hard times coming when the monetary house of cards collapses. Don’t worry though, our dear leaders will get a heads up on the crash and be able to cash out and us regular people will be left holding the bag.
