Movie director John Landis directed the music video for "Thriller". He had directed "Animal House," "The Blues Brothers," and "An American Werewolf in London". It was one of the most expensive music videos ever made. It is iconic. Michael Jackson's "Thriller" (1982) is the best selling album of all time. It was a cultural phenomenon. In the 1980s, no one was bigger than Michael Jackson in popular music; hence his nickname, "The King of Pop." Each year, a number of cities in the United States have a "Zombie Walk" where people dress like zombies and dance like Michael Jackson did in the "Thriller" music video. The voiceover toward the end of the song featured the voice of Vincent Price, an actor who starred in thrillers (now called horror movies) from the late 1930s into the 1980s.

To give you an idea how larger this premier was, all 3 major US networks (ABC, NBC and CBS) all interrupted normal programming to show the premier of this video. I don't believe they ever did this for any music video. 1982 was the release year.

That's incorrect. It debuted on Friday Night Videos ONLY. I saw it that very night it was shown. It was promoted by Friday Night Videos a few weeks before it came out. That show was only on one channel. Now, maybe later it was shown where ever else. But even MTV wouldn't show it because at the time they didn't cater to Black music. Regardless, it definitely spread like wildfire.

I dont know if anyone mentioned it but the narration was Vincent Price, I very famous horror actor from the 1930s till he passed. Iconic horror actor here in the USA and around the world. That beat and bass is unmatchable.

Loved your reaction! This was very fun! This groundbreaking video was released in 1983, and was hugely popular right away. It was directed by a famous Hollywood director (John Landis) and featured professional dancers and choreography. An extra popular feature was that the narrator was famous horror movie actor Vincent Price, who also narrates the scary poem in the middle, and does the laugh at the end. His name is featured on the movie marquee sign at the beginning.

It was released in 1982 and was a short film feature directed by Hollywood director John Landis. MTV was only one year old by then and MJ took advantage of the platform to create and release this film as his marketing for the Thriller album. I remember it being a HUGE deal when the hype was preceding the video premiere and everyone was glued to their TVs to watch it. MTV would then schedule certain time slots to show the complete video a couple times a day and I remember having thriller watching gatherings and would try to dance with the video. Ahhh the good ole days.
