You are correct that the Ill Run to You chorus was filmed backwards to show the snow falling up. They discussed in an interview at some point.

They actually had to mouth some words backwards as well in order for it to match the video. And yes, they discuss it in interviews.
@margretrosenberg42010 ай бұрын
And that means that the audio was recorded separately, because while it's possible (though difficult) to mouth words backwards it isn't possible to sing them backwards and have it come out right. But there's a very subtle and extremely cool effect going on here. The voice of whichever singer the camera is pointed at is just a tiny bit more distinct. It isn't enough to throw the balance off; you don't even notice it unless you're watching the video. But it's real, and at least for me it enhances the song. And it can't be something simple like having a directional mic attached to the camera, because they weren't recording the audio and video at the same time. This has to be the work of Ed Boyer, who is clearly a genius.

@@jcs1025 I'm not always sure which songs aren't on albums. I'm thinking of songs like their "Evolution of..." series, where they sing together in front of a camera, record several takes, and then just pick the best one.

I wish other reactors would do the video and then the live version so everyone could hear how magnificent PTX is live.

The bridge of this piece is always my favorite part - having Avi, Scott and Mitch singing together with the main line of the song, and Kirstie and Kevin splitting off to do the high harmony part always sends shivers down my spine! And that final discordant chord, that finally resolves, brings it all back to where it started. I've only been introduced to this live version recently, and I enjoy it more than the official MV - like most MVs, the camera cuts from one person to another and it's hard to follow a single person throughout the song. With PTX just standing in a line for the live version, it's so much easier to pick out someone and follow them for the entire song. And for a live performance, the mix is absolutely amazing! EDIT: During the live performance, you mentioned Kevin looking to one side for a moment - if you watch that section you'll see Kirstie do the same thing at the same time. Since they're getting ready for their split from the other singers, I don't know if they were doing something in preparation (they both turn away briefly when the guys start the bridge section), but it's interesting that they both did the same move at the same time.

This is from their very early days. It was on their second EP album (PTX Vol 2), and in the outro to their "Daft Punk" (which was on the same album) video, Avi mentions that since a lot of people were wanting to cover "Run to You", they made the sheet music available on the website (for free) so anyone who wanted to do it would have the full score. It would have been early 2013

Here's an interesting live version of "Run To You" that Avi himself conducted at an a cappella workshop in 2017, around the time he announced he'd be leaving PTX. Keep in mind as you watch him conduct that, while he was in college pre-PTX as an opera/classical voice major, he hoped to become a choir director someday. You can see him draw the song from this large group of young singers. kzbin.info/www/bejne/roq5gaytbbZsnKs

Thank you for the wonderful reaction - and congrats on figuring out the rising flakes! They are only singing 4 words during the chorus "I'll run to you", and it was probably pretty easy to learn how to phonetically mouth those simple, one syllable words backwards. The hard thing for me is wondering who might have figured out how amazing that would look in this song. I like your comment about it being like they wanted reverse the breaking up of a relationship. That idea really fits this. New Sub!

One of my favorite originals by ptx. This was written by Avi and Kevin. If you listen to Avi's solo music you can definitely hear similarities in style and content. I have to say I disagree about the volume level on the live version. To me, the weight of the song is enhanced by Avi's bass and voice in general. The higher registers swamp the bass in the live version.

I agree, Coco. This live version is poorly mixed, with too much of Scott and Kirstie. You can barely hear Avi.
@charlottevan_810 ай бұрын
"Run To You", while written by Kevin and Avi, was mostly written by Avi, and as Coco says, you can hear Avi's influence in this song in more than a few of his subsequent solo originals, both in the music and in the lyrics. My favorite example of this in terms of lyrics is the line "I have broken bones and tattered clothes, I've run out of time" here in "Run To You", comparing that to this line from Avi's original "Chains" - "I've been here before, tethered and torn, I won't take any more". Powerful.

I disagree with you on the volume, the song loses some of it's emotion without the strong bass it is lighter and airier, not as deep as the studio version. And I have no trouble hearing all the parts in the studio version.
