NOBODY can play guitar like Rory, not even Hendrix - - - hands down, the GOAT
@Roy-ho6ii7 ай бұрын
I love Rory Gallagher, but I’m sorry, I have to disagree with you. In my opinion, and funnily enough the opinions of many guitar gods who played during his lifetime, Richie Blackmore is the finest guitarist that has ever lived. No other player has his accuracy, speed, dexterity and timing and that’s what makes him the GOAT.

@@Roy-ho6ii Rory is one of Ritchie's favorite guitar players - - and you should also know Ritchie named his son after Rory

Thank you for this one! Rory was really into detective novels and the true life story of Cold War-era spy Kim Philby on which this song is based fascinated him. There's also a parallel between the lonely life of a spy on the run and a musician who is on the road most of the time, travelling from one strange city to another, not spending enough time any where to make contacts. He used the electric sitar for this song to give it a touch of mysterious Eastern European flavor. Rory could play most everything that had strings. The next one you should react to, just to take a look at another instrument that he played, is to react to "Goin' to My Hometown" from the 1974 Irish Tour on which he plays mandolin (and yes, he rocked it!). A couple of other choices are the incredible electric blues number of the 1984 Belfast performance of "I Wonder Who?' and any of the acoustic pieces from the 1977 RTE "Me and My Music" performance (a precursor to MTV's Unplugged series).

Thanks a ton for the info! Rory's connection to the spy story is WILD, and that electric sitar touch is pure genius. Excited to check out "Goin' to My Hometown" on the mandolin - he rocked it, you say? Appreciate the heads-up! 🎸🤘 #RoryGallagher #MusicDiscovery

Rory was the greatest. One of those performers who shined on stage but couldn't bring the fire in the studio. Had to see him live!! Kim Philby who the song is about was a British Intelligence Agent who was found to be a traitor. He'd been a mole for the Soviet Union for many years. He escaped to Moscow where he later died.

That is an electric sitar he is playing. Rory was THE man.

Philly was the name of a British spy in the 60s is actually a double spy and spying for Russia. So Rory wrote this song with the perspective of being a spy, and feeling like Philby. And that is actually an electric sitar he plays for this song. Great choice and review!😃👍

Rory & ROCKPALAST. .Back in the 70's Rockpalast Rocknights live concerts on TV . We used the TV for the image and the simultaneous live stereo sound through the radio for the loud sound. It was broadcasted over a big part of Europe live. ROCKPALAST is legendary.
