Dion DiMucci is 84 yrs old this year born in 1939. He was about 22 when this song was released in 1961. So all in this recording would be in their 80s and beyond with a few others that could be alive yet. Being on film is why it is HD and preserved and downloaded in higher definition than others posted years ago in youtube when youtube only had 480p and below.

A very kool reaction 😎! The song was in the film: The Expendables 2 (2012). He still performs live on stage. The Wanderer was released as the third single from Dion's 1961 album: Runaround Sue. It was written by Ernie Maresca. It was produced by Gene Schwartz. The song reached #2 on the Hot 100 and #3 on the Cash Box 100. This performance is from the 1961 film: Twist Around The Clock. The song, with a 12-bar blues-base verse and an eight-bar bridge, tells the story of a travelling man and his many loves. In this song Dion is warning Flo, Jane and Mary to stay clear of The Wanderer. Dion told Rolling Stone magazine in 1976: "You say to a chick: 'Stay away from that guy'. And she would say: 'What guy?'. Chicks loved a rebel". The song was to be recorded by another group: Nino And The Ebb Tides. They passed on it in favor of another Ernie Maresca song, so Dion was given it as the B-side of his single: "The Majestic", a song which his record company had chosen for him. The record was turned over to the B-side by radio DJs who preferred "The Wanderer" over "The Majestic". Dion said of "The Wanderer": At its roots, it's more than meets the eye. "The Wanderer" is black music filtered through an Italian neighborhood that comes out with an attitude. It's my perception of a lot of songs like "I'm A Man" by Bo Diddley or "Hoochie Coochie Man" by Muddy Waters. But you know, "The Wanderer" is really a sad song. A lot of guys don't understand that. Bruce Springsteen was the only guy who accurately expressed what that song was about. It's "I roam from town to town and go through life without a care, I'm as happy as a clown with my two fists of iron, but I'm going nowhere". In the Fifties, you didn't get that dark. It sounds like a lot of fun but it's about going nowhere. Dion recalled in Mojo magazine March 2008: "I was trying to do what they (his record label) wanted me to do. It was the times, you know? You could say 'The Wanderer' is my little white version of 'I'm A Man'. I saw Bo Diddley do 'I'm A Man' and he had this big belt buckle and I thought, I gotta get a song like that, so I did 'The Wanderer'. But if you listen to the lyric, it's really a sad song, and it actually turns in on itself, because it says 'I roam from town to town/I go through life without a care/I wave my two fists of iron/but I'm goin' nowhere.' You've got a thin veneer of what a man is. The guy's goin' to hell, but he's having a lot of fun doin' it". Dion told Blueswax in 2009: "The other inspiration was a little bit of "Kansas City", because that song was popular at the time and I loved it. The big inspiration was this kid in the neighborhood... I think his name was Jackie Burns. He was a sailor and he had tattoos all over him, like he had 'Flo' on his left arm, 'Mary' on his right. Janie was the girl that he was going to be with the next night and then he put 'Rosie' on his chest and he had it covered up with a battleship. Every time he went out with a girl, he got a new tattoo. So the guy was worth a song!". Another inspiration was Ruggero Leoncavallo's 1893 opera: Pagliacci, which recounts the tragedy of a jealous husband in a commedia dell'arte troupe. Dion told Spinner in a 2012 interview: "It's a deeper song than people think. Those lyrics: 'Oh well, I roam from town to town/I go through life without a care/And I'm as happy as a clown/I with my two fists of iron and I'm going nowhere'. That's not just some throwaway song. There's a lot more going on than you might think. I used an image from Pagliacci. My grandfather took me to that opera as a kid and that inspired the song". Among the notable song covers are 🎤: Leif Garrett 1978 (#49 in the US), Donna Summer in 1980 (#3 in the US, #48 in UK), Status Quo in 1984 (#7 in UK), and Eddie Rabbitt in 1988 (#1 in the Hot Country Singles chart). Other artists to cover the song include 📻: Bruce Springsteen, Roberto Carlos, The Alley Cats, Gary Glitter, The Beach Boys and more. The song was featured in the films 📽: The Expendables 2 (2012), Jack And Jill (2011), Game Boys (2008), Behind Enemy Lines (2001), Coupe de Ville (1990), Crocodile Dundee II (1988), The Wanders (1979), The Steagle (1971) and more.. The song was featured in the video games 🎮: Seal Team Eight Behind Enemy Lines (2014) and Fallout 4 (2015). Lyrics 🗒: Oh well I'm the type of guy who will never settle down Where pretty girls are well, you know that I'm around I kiss 'em and I love 'em 'cause to me they're all the same I hug 'em and I squeeze 'em they don't even know my name They call me the wanderer, yeah the wanderer I roam around around around Oh well there's Flo on my left and there's Mary on my right And Janie is the girl with that I'll be with tonight And when she asks me which one I love the best I tear open my shirt I got Rosie on my chest 'Cause I'm the wanderer yeah the wanderer I roam around around around Oh well I roam from town to town I go through life without a care 'Til I'm as happy as a clown With my two fists of iron and I'm going nowhere I'm the type of guy that likes to roam around I'm never in one place I roam from town to town And when I find myself a-fallin' for some girl, yeah I hop right into that car of mine and ride around the world Yeah I'm the wanderer, yeah the wanderer I roam around around around, let's go Oh yeah I'm the type of guy that likes to roam around I'm never in one place I roam from town to town And when I find myself a-fallin' for some girl I hop right into that car of mine and ride around the world 'Cause I'm a wanderer, yeah a wanderer I roam around around around, around, around 'Cause I'm a wanderer, yeah a wanderer I roam around around around, aroundm around Dion Info 📰: Dion DiMucci was born on July 18, 1939 in The Bronx, New York. He is a singer, producer and songwriter. His music incorporates elements of Doo-Wop, Pop, Rock, R&B, folk and Blues. As a child he developed a love of Country music, particularly the work of Hank Williams. He was also fond of Blues and Doo-Wop musicians he heard performing in local bars, and on the radio. His singing was honed on the street corners and local clubs of The Bronx, where he and other neighborhood singers created a cappella riffs. A Grammy-nominated artist, Dion has released over 40 albums, and scored eleven Top 10 hits (including with The Belmonts) on the Hot 100. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989. In 2002, Dion's song: "Runaround Sue", was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Recent album awards include: Favorite Blues Album: New York Is My Home (2016), Favorite Compilations and Reissues: Kickin' Child Lost Columbia Album 1965 (2017), and Favorite Blues Album: Blues With Friends (2020). Initially the lead singer of the vocal group Dion And The Belmonts, Dion embarked on a solo career, and was one of the most prominent Rock and Roll performers of the pre-British Musical Invasion era. He had 39 Top 40 hits in the late 1950s and early 1960s as a solo performer, or with The Belmonts and The Del-Satins. He is best remembered for his signature hit songs: "Runaround Sue", "The Wanderer", "Ruby Baby" and "Lovers Who Wander", among others. Dion's mainstream popularity waned in the mid-1960s, and toward the end of the decade he shifted his style with more mature and contemplative songs including the single: "Abraham, Martin and John". Although no longer a star, he continued making music. During the 1980s, Dion produced several Christian albums, winning a GMA Dove Award in 1984 for the album: I Put Away My Idols. He returned to secular music in the late 1980s with the album: Yo Frankie (1989). Between the mid-2000s and 2021, Dion released six chart-topping Blues albums. Music critics who had dismissed his early work, labeling him as a teen idol, praised his later work and noted the influence he has had on other singers. In 2023, Rolling Stone ranked Dion at number 154 on its list of the 200 Greatest Singers of All Time. Dion still performs live on stage in 2024. Miscellaneous Notes 🗃: In 1989, Dion was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Controversially, when Dion's solo induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame occurred, the other original members of The Belmonts (Carlo Mastrangelo, Fred Milano and Angelo D'Aleo) were not inducted. In a Billboard magazine article dated January 3, 2012, it stated: "There was strife between Dion and The Belmonts members, who were not pleased when Dion was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame without them in 1989". Dion's autobiography: "The Wanderer: Dion's Story", was co-authored by Davin Seay and published in the late-1980s. Dion was a member of the American board of directors for Renewal Ministries in 2004. In January 2006, Dion released the album: Bronx In Blue, an album of Blues and Country standards, which was nominated for a Grammy Award. It peaked at No. 2 on the Top Blues Albums chart. In October 2009, Dion performed "The Wanderer" with Paul Simon at the 25th Anniversary Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Concert. In October 2011, an industry-only reading of a new play about Dion's life was performed in New York City. In May 2017, Dion released the album: Kickin' Child: The Lost Album 1965, from Norton Records, containing songs recorded in 1965 when he was with Columbia Records but were not previously released. American Songwriter magazine honored Dion's single: "Song For Sam Cooke (Here In America)", as the "Greatest of the Great 2020 Songs". In April 2022, Dion appeared in an interview on EWTN's The World Over with Raymond Arroyo. They discussed his career, his recent blues albums and The Wanderer musical. ****CONTINUE BELOW****
