I love the sound when you gently slapped that little fish on your hand, I'm about to try a beetle spin for the first time soon and I'm quite excited as its at a pond I know to have some MASSIVE bass,and plenty of baitfish

How did it go? Did you have any luck?
@Everything_Unleashed Жыл бұрын
@@aPoorsPerspective Went well! No giants that time but some good pound-pound and a halfers, gonna throw them more this summer but one thing I learned is the fish there like it better to use the but end of a curly tail worm or a curly tail grub then any of the little ned rig looking baits that come with the beetlespins

I used to use a similar style lure when I was a kid and I remember catching everything from bluegill to rock bass, sometimes even small largemouth bass would go after them. They're really a blast!
@edbrown69857 ай бұрын
What kind of lure was that?
@user-js4vh2lw6n3 жыл бұрын
Beetle Spins are the one lure you can always catch something with when the fish aren't hitting anything else. I keep a bunch of them especially for when the kids go with me. Keep the lure at a slow and constant speed. And make sure you dont have the hook upside down.

Or I recommend a 3/8 oz all white H&H spinnerbait with double colorado blades
@billyhancock78519 ай бұрын
@jamesmarris5498 I live in Indiana and found getting H&Hs were hard to come by. I would pick up some on my trips to Louisiana, and had a couple of handful of H&H packages. Academy sports just opened a store close to the house and they have H&H lures. I now have a source close to me. Love them.

Beetle Spins and Mr. Twister never failed. Unfortunately I don't see Mr. Twister around these days, but they are/were the catch all lure.

I do fun fishing with a foot long junior Snakeheads. Fished with jughead only. When those fish are in frenzy with 'boils' on the water, I can have 150 fish strikes in 2 hours of spinning ! Always on Chartreuse Green and the smallest grub size !

It’s super fun when you start to catch bass on em
@warrenpeterson70852 жыл бұрын
Just a tip for you: rig the hook with the point facing up. It will be more weed free that way. The spinner arm acts as a weed guard. You can also change the plastic grub for a different style. Try a Gulp Alive 1" minnow.

I usually run the white with the red spot or swap the twin-tail grub they come with for a curly tail grub. But yeah, the great thing about the beetle spin is that they're usually small enough that you can catch anything with them, even bluegill and the tiniest of green sunfish. But bass will bite them, too.
@fishinkeylargo2 жыл бұрын
Interesting way you rigged the spinner blade, I'm going to have to try it. I like the idea of a more erratic swim pattern. I have caught Peacock Bass up to 3 #'s on these beetle spins. I also have a ton of curly tails I use on them.

Been using beetle spins for ever will catch all fish just keep the faith they really do work get one or two of all sizes some of all colors . There is also one that looks like a little shad that have hooked huge fish that is all you need and a selection of little screw tail grubs in different colors

I remember seeing them in my grandpas tackle many years ago. Thanks man, glad you enjoyed!
@Anxiez3 жыл бұрын
Yo! I couldn’t really tell, but by the way the grub would hang- you have the hook facing the wrong way. The hook should be facing towards the inside, or towards the spinning blade. But if it catches fish then it works!
@thejeremymotley3 жыл бұрын
I actually experimented later after the video trying it both ways. Having the hook on the inside makes it swim perfectly straight while having it point out gives the bait more of a swinging action. Thanks for your input I actually never really thought about it until it was time to put it on.

I've caught largemouth, crappie, brim and all kinds of other fish on my beetle spin. I prefer the black with yellow lines. Sometimes it's all I bring.

You rigged the jig on the clip upside down (01:47). I did the very same the first time I used a Johnson Beetle Spin. That's lucky. I had an amazing outing with it that first outing, right up until I snagged it and broke it off. Rig with the hook facing up towards the blade and the wire frame will offer some "weedless" protection. Love this lure!

Are these a good spring time bait? I bought some white ones and chartreuse ones. I'm gonna try them out today. I'm on night shift and the plant is on the river so I just go in the morning after work.😅
@strichards5337 Жыл бұрын
@@aPoorsPerspective I find them to be excellent lures. Spring, summer and fall. If you see any bait forage when at the water, try to match your beetle spin grub size to them for a more natural presentation. If water is clear, white and chartreuse are good, white can work in mudded water too but I’d usually go darker (black or green) in dark or clouded water

if you run out of beetles for them you can always put a small curly tail grub on em or other small plastic. i've caught some nice Crappie with a beetle spine and small curly tail. they will catch all kinds of species honestly everything from sunfish to bass and even the odd catfish.
@thejeremymotley3 жыл бұрын
I actually have a few hundred extra grubs, curly tails as well. My grandpa gave me a tacklebox literally filled with beetle spins after I made this video! I agree though they catch anything that swims.
@stephenballard37598 ай бұрын
Adding your own curly tail or crappie tube works great, but the stubby grub they give you is to prevent short strikes from fish like bluegill that have smaller mouths.
@edbrown69857 ай бұрын
Those lures catch everything.try using a kalins triple threat grub instead of what comes with it.i can't tell you how many bass ive caught with them.i try to make it to big for sunfish to get it in their mouths because i fish for smallmouths with them.

I use beetle spins most every time I go out.. Slow roll it about 1 crank of the handle a second will catch Brim, Crappie and sometimes a catfish.. Reeling faster normally entices the bass to hit..

You tore them up with that old bait. A couple of suggestions, flip that jig the other way. Hook should point up when retrieving. Also, you can use other plastics on the jig. Curly tails, gulp alive minnows, anything you like. Years ago I found a 100 pack of the rigs, no jigs. I’m down to just a few out of that bag now.
