Those last minutes of that episode were pure gold: Watching Armin and Mikasa smiling to each other, trio Sasha, Connie and Jean playing in the water, Hange being excited and curious as always while Levi is warning her not to touch anything... And a depressed Eren that can't be part of that lovely moment 'cause he's the only one who knows that sh*t is about to go down.

This scene is basically a direct parallel to the day Eren had to make a snap decision to kill the kidnappers instead of running back to his father to get help. Eren has always been ruthless and this episode asks you is he justified to lean so hard into killing his enemies.

The name of the show in Japan is 'Shingeki no Kyojin', which directly translates to 'Attack Titan' but it is translated as 'Attack on Titan' in English. So the real name of the show should be the name of Eren's Titan, the Attack Titan.

It doesn't directly translate to Attack Titan but rather "Attacking Titan" or "Attacking Titans", because there's rarely plurals in Japanese. The Japanese name wanted to be "vague" about the real premise of the show, Eren's titan, by fooling us, making us think that the title means the countless attacking pure titans, but with this episode we found out it's actually pertaining to Eren's titan alone. There's the "進撃の巨人達" Shingeki no Kyojin tachi (plural version, Attacking Titans) but it sounds soooo lame as a title and also will limit the meaning to the pure titans so I understand why they went this route.

To answer masons question, Ymir was a titan for 60 years and laid in the earth because she was a “pure titan” she hadn’t gained the power of the nine yet. She only did after she ate one of reiner’s friend which is when she regained consciousness and human form, if you notice closely in that ymir episode you can notice those paths eren talk to about appear in the sky when she returns to her human form

As other commenters have noted, Eren noticed that while touching a royal human unlocked memories, the only time he was able to use the power of the Founding Titan was when he touched a titan with royal blood (Dina). He wonders what the military would do to Historia if they knew because there is a very real chance they would try to turn her into a titan just to control or kill the titans. However, looking back at Rod Reiss's memories from earlier this season (the scene where Historia kills him), Rod's father as King would not do anything about the titans, even when Rod questioned why. Rod's brother Uri was mentally ready to break the cycle and do something about the titans using the power of the Founding until he became King and the Founding Titan. Then the look in his eyes changed and he only talked about peace and paradise. The same happened to Freida after him once she became Queen.

So to answer the question Quinn asked "How Ymir was able to live that long as a titan when she was burried underground." She was able to live that long because she was a Pure Titan. She hadn't gotten her Titan shifting powers yet. Once she woke up after so many years the first person she came across just so happened to be a Titan shifter which is how she got the power.

Ymir is from Marley as an Eldian just like Grisha but from 60 years ago in the show. She was brought to Paradis and turned in to a pure Titan off that same wall by the sea. Pure Titans pretty much live forever until they are killed or eat one of the nine that returns them to human form. People that get turned into PURE titans will remain in titan form for, what could be, hundreds of years, in Ymir's case it was 60 or 70, I forgot. But the titans are after humans and eat them because they are driven to find a person like Eren, Berthold or Reiner who can change back into human form, a titan shifter. This is why Ymir lived for several decades as a titan. It's kinda unfair, becoming a titan shifter, someone who can turn back to human form, only lives for another 13 years.

To answer your question Mason about ymir. Only one of the 9 titan shifters have the 13 years to live while pure titans can live a lot longer 60 years in ymir's case. But once ymir as a pure titan ate another titan shifter she then became a titan shifter herself and then the 13 year limit begins.

I always remember Gandalf's line about Gollum bc if they killed Reiner Zeke or Berthold earlier the powers would have gone to a baby (on which side we don't know) and the story would end in a very different manner....they were so close to ruin everything so when they were (like many other reactors) frustrated that they didn't kill and let Zeke and Reiner escape I was like "if only you knew...."

Any titan who is not one of the nine kind of stop aging. They are not exactly living as human beings so they just continue living eternally. Which explains why Yumir as a normal titan was freezed in time for 60 years before eating Reiner and Berthord comrade and obtain the power of a titan shifter. It's correct that only the 9 main Titan's live for 13 years. The other Titan's are referred to as "pure titan's" and can live a lot longer, especially since they don't need to eat. The Ymir that we knew was buried underground for all those years as a pure titan, and became one of the 9 after that. I'll let you connect the dots. 👍

There's always a little confusion when talking about Ymirs... There are 2. Ymir the Scout is not the Ymir that created the titans. When scout Ymir was picked up as an orphan, they gave her the name as they put her on the throne of that cult she led. The other Ymir is the one that made the pact with the devil to create titans. Scout Ymir was turned into a pure titan which can live forever essentially as a titan, only the 9 intelligent titans have a 13 year expiration date.
